Comments about Remo Silentstroke Drumhead:

For LV practice or playing on an acoustic kit there are really only two options: The Remo Silentstroke and the Aquarian Superpads. These heads are 1/4 the outlay, and have the benefit of being tensionable. While they do not feel exactly like a "real" drum head, you can have relative tension between the heads. These heads, however, are a semi-permanent modification. Changing them out for other heads is the same as changing any heads. The Aq. SP overlay your heads, and so can be put on and taken off in a snap, but they all have the same feel. Owing to c0st and the ability to tension, the Remos are "better," but are best used with a dedicated practice kit. The good news is, the kit itself doesn't matter, and it would be a share to put these on, say, a Gretsch Broadkaster, or a Pearl Session Studio Classic. Relative pitch is produced by the resonant head by vibration traveling through the shell. For snare drums, I suspect this would work better for wood than for metal (I haven't tried it on metal, but it works amazingly well on the cheap wooden snare I put the head on). If you've got a kit you can dedicate to practice, these heads are the way to go. If you've got one kit and need to go back and forth between regular acoustic sound and quiet practice, the Aquarians are the way to go.

Great for Alesis Dm 10 Studio E-Kit

      Comments about Remo Silentstroke Drumhead:

What a difference these made on my Alesis Dm-10 Studio E-kit. You have to cut slit in white foam for the wire then put white foam on top of the black foam then put the silent stroke head on top for it to work good. I bought just 1 for the snare to try out then within a week ordered the rest. Old heads were loud and felt like you were hitting cement. These heads feel like real drum heads and are nice and quiet. Even the bass drum now feels like I'm playing a real kick drum instead of slamming a beater into a wall. I love my e-kit now with theses heads on it.

      Comments about Remo Silentstroke Drumhead:

Other than the Pearl Rhythm Traveler mesh heads, which look kind of cheesy to me, these are the only cost effective mesh heads out there that I'm aware of. Everything else out there can be a very expensive proposition.
For my needs, the Silentstrokes are perfect. I play in a low volume situation at my church, and was using a Roland e-kit. I became tired of the tiny little pads and how difficult it could be to HIT the darn things without clicking the plastic housing or my sticks. I wanted to turn one of my acoustic kits into an e-kit but the cost was daunting, especially when it came to heads. Remo solved my problem with the Silentstrokes. I was able to re-head my entire four piece kit for about what it would cost to just buy a bass drum head from some of the competition. The heads trigger well and are very quiet---the actual kit volume is only slightly more than what it was with the pads. I highly recommend them if you're considering converting an acoustic kit over to e-kit.

      Comments about Remo Silentstroke Drumhead:

I purchased these for paracticing in my home. I'm am using them on a DW Kit. 12x8,14x14,18x16, and 5x14 Snare Drum.

I am amazed at how quiet they are while still allowing the tone of the drum to be heard. They are extremely close to the feel of real drumheads. They are much quieter than my my Remo Gum Rubber Practice Pad and way more fun to practice on.

I would highly recommend them to someone that wants to pratice on their acoustic drum kit without bothering their roomates.

        Comments about Remo Silentstroke Drumhead:

These heads are perfect for extremely quiet practice. My entire home practice kit is outfitted with them - the drumset is no louder than a tv @ normal volume; the tone of each drum is still audible; the feel of the heads is similar to the Roland electronic drumsets. I'm very happy w/ them. Try one on a snare 1st, them add to the rest of the kit; I hope it makes you happy & helps you keep making music.

              Comments about Remo Silentstroke Drumhead:

Bought Remo Silent Stroke heads all around my kit. For years I have played on home made plywood discs with rubber pads super glued onto them, sitting atop my drums, turning a nice maple acoustic kit into a rubber pad jungle. It's nice to be able to practice at home on a low noise - realistic feeling surface. You have get the Ziljian L80 practice cymbals with these. They are awesome together ! As a pair they are the Mac Daddy. If you plasti-dip your stick tips they are even quieter on the L80 practice cymbals. P.S. If you are a brush player, get LP Percussion or some other plastic tip brushes, as they work great on these heads. Wire brushes DO NOT.

                  Comments about Remo Silentstroke Drumhead:

Works on a drum, activates the snares. I'd be inclined to use this only a inexpensive "practice" kit. It will sound no different on a 70s MIJ than it would on a DW. My only (unsubstantiated) concern (more of a question) is, given that this is micro screen, is it abrading the bearing edges as tightened? If I find out one way or the other, I'll repost.

I live with my wife, and would like to keep her happy for, you know, forever. So these heads do just that, as they allow for me to wail with force on my regular kit without disturbing the peace. Sure, it may take some time to take your regular heads off, but unless you are gigging every single night, take the 30 minutes to switch your heads and BAM, it's done. I am more than impressed with the feel - they are a bit bouncy, but it's much better than a typical rubber practice pad. Want louder tone from these? Put 3" painters tape in a square on the head to reduce air flow and increase volume. Super versatile.

I replaced the factory heads on my 2box kit with these. The difference is night and day. I should have done it from day one. They feel and trigger SOOOOOOO much better. And they are almost silent. Highly recommended!

These work great and do what they say they do for toms, but they do not work as a snare head. Very little action from the snare wires when playing. Had to sandwich a sock in between the bottom head and wires to get rid of awful sound. After that it sounds like a high pitched tom, which is fine for practice for me.

Bought this one as a test before converting entire set. Does what it says. It is simply the type of head you would find on an electric set but built for and used on an acoustic.

                                      Comments about Remo Silentstroke Drumhead:

If you want to make your drums quiet and retain a decent feel these do the job. They are quiet. Very quiet. Maybe too quiet.
They're great if you want to practice "the drums", but if you want to practice with your cymbals too, you may find it trying.
The extreme quietness of the heads juxtoposed with full volume cymbals makes playing/practicing an odd experience. You only really hear the cymbals which kind of makes things sound and feel..... well...."wonkie".
They'd probably work great with triggers though.
My solution: to mic up the mesh heads (from the bottom), crank up the gain, add some reverb. Now with headphones I can practice with "reasonable" sound/volume.
Final Note: be forewarned about the kick head. You'll put your beater through it quickly if you don't reinforce the head.
