Comments about Remo Suede Emperor Drum Heads:
I recently received this head to try out. I tried it on my snare drum and was pleasantly surprised. Don't be fooled by the word "suede" thinking it's a soft mellow sounding head. I usually use coated heads on my snare and this head really isn't coated per se, but it does have a bit of a texture and is a nice bright white. Since there isn't a coating, there's nothing to wear off, so it stays looking nice alot longer than a coated head, which is a plus for me. The head responded like a cross between a coated and clear head in that it had the attack of a clear head, with the nice midrange tones and warmth of a coated head, and super durable due to the 2 ply 7.5 mil construction. On my Ludwig 6.5x14 supraphonic snare, it sounded great, bright attack and livelier than the 7.5 mil coated vintage emperor I've tried before, with nice meaty midrange. I really liked it. On toms, for those of you that like the look and sound of a coated head and want the attack of a clear head, this is the perfect choice. I can see this head being immensely popular for those of you (like me) looking for a tom head that gives you a fat low end with nice attack and durability. It's great for both snare and toms IMO. I absolutely loved this head!!!
