Rocky Mountain Slides

Handmade specifically to bring the bluesiest tone out of your acoustic guitar.

This was the first Rocky Mountain Slide Company model, and was originally developed for the electric guitar player. It works great with low action, and virtually eliminates that annoying fret buzz that you get with bulkier, heavier slides. It gives you all the sustain and volume you need, but with a tone that stands alone. Glass-like, but with "warm back-end tones," it gives you more volume than glass! Rocky Mountain makes each ceramic slide by hand. They've got the classic ceramic tone you've been looking for.

Features

  • Handmade
  • Classic ceramic tone
  • Approximately 7/8" internal diameter (22-24mm)
  • Approximately 2-7/16" (61-63mm) length

Put it in the cart while you're thinking about it. If you haven't played much slide, it can open up whole new realms.

I was using pyrex glass slides because I just can't stand the thin      metallic sound I get from brass and steel slides. With the pyrex slides I      always had a very dull sound that lacked grit and had a hard time      cutting through the mix in a live setting. I bought this in the      Hellhound Red, and the glazed ceramic gives me the perfect balance of      the warm, thick and greasy tone I love(a la Steve Johnson, Sonny      Landreth, Michael burks Etc;), but with just enough edge and grit to cut      through the mix. With the size of my ring finger, the feel and fit are      second to none. I'd recommend this product, but they make a few      different models of different sizes and lengths, so make sure you're getting the right size model for you.

The quality is superb. It feels good and the red glaze is beautiful.

Expensive, but you get what you pay for. I personally feel the perfection of my slide tone was worth the high price.

Not For Me

Ceramic Blues Boy Acoustic Guitar Slide I should make the disclaimer that although I have been playing slide guitar for years and have fun doing it I am a rank amateur that still struggles with many aspects of the craft. First off worth noting is this slide is very thin. Pictures of it didn't quite reflect that. Being thin it is very light. That might be a good thing for some. For me it didn't matter as much as I thought. I own a number of slides. They all either fit snug and comfortable on my pinky or my ring finger. The Blue Boy is somewhere in between. It is loose on my pinky. I can play it that way but it doesn't feel secure although not a big deal. I can wear it on my ring finger but I can't get it all the way on so it's unusable that way. The manufacturers website may have the reason. It mentions... [designed for quick release (bend your finger to lock, straighten your finger out to remove) ]. Maybe why its so big on my pinky. That's not how I play. That might be great for others. The ad promises less fret buzz. I didn't find it any better or worse in that regard compared to the medium thick glass or thin steel slides that I have been using. I even tried it on a guitar that has normal action for fretting. I have a lot of difficulty playing slide on it. Using the Blues Boy was no better or worse than my other slides. My Blues Boy is not perfectly round or smooth. In addition to that it has a curve to the sides, the ends being wider than the middle. The manufacturers website mentions that being handmade imperfections happen. Also that the curve is intentional since most fret boards are also curved. That confuses me since I am resting the slide on the strings not the fret board. None of my four guitars have strings that curve like the fret board does. (I never understood this). My Blues Boy has a spot on one end, about the size of a finger nail that is flattened. There are numerous pits on the surface. The edges are VERY rough. Usually that should not be a problem but occasionaly when I do a long slide down I drop my hand. If it positions just right it sounds like a finger nail scaping the bass string. Chalk that up to my sloppy playing but its a pain I don't have to worry about with other slides. To me the tone was brighter than my glass slide not warmer. The sustain maybe slightly less. Volume about the same. I've spent several hours TRYING to like this slide but I find it disappointing and a little awkward to use. I acknowledge that it could be lack lack of skill and knowledge that just doesn't know how to use it but this is one amateur that is disappointed.

I've used every type slide you can think of and this is the best. What is particularly nice is that this slide works extremly well even without raising the strings. Usually I use a steel slide on electric and a glass slide on accoustic guitar but this baby does both very well. It's my slide of choice for both now.
