The Shavano was designed for those sliders out there who want a little tighter fit. The Rocky Mountain Slide Company listens to their players, and the Shavano (Shav-Van-No) reflects this. This slide has a smaller inner diameter of 3/4" (18mm to 20mm), so it is tighter fitting than the Blues Boy or the Salidan. The Shavano guitar slide has a more traditional feel for players with smaller fingers, long skinny fingers, or who play with their pinkies. Although made from ceramic material, this model sounds closer to brass. Tonally, the Shavano is moderate, making it great for lots of different styles.

Playing slide is a bit quirky and I suppose other people will have their favorites, but do try a RMS some time and I think you will find it is one of the better slides you have used. I run all my electrics with D'addario 11 - 48 pure nickel strings and my action is similar to a Bluegrass acoustic at 7/64" bass and 6/64" (or higher) treble when measured from the top of the 12th fret to the bottom of the string.
I have played guitar for a long time and due to had issus I started playing slide more often about two years ago. At first it was really frustrating because I could not find a slide that fit well or had any sustain without becoming cumbersom. For me the winning features of Rocky Mountain Slides Shavano are: 1)They fit really well! one thing to note is the high fire colors (White, Blue and Green) run a bit smaller and sound more "open" than the low fire Yellow, Red Black. 2) RMS Shavano is about the same weight as a dunlop pyrex, so it is really easy to manouver 3) They sustain better than any slide I have tried and some of the slides I have tried were easily twice the weight. 4) The Shavano is on the quiet side as far as unwanted noises, but are big and loud when playing.
I used to use Brass for acoustic, but I find the White Shavano to work even better! For electric my favorites are Gree, Blue and Red.
They are made by hand and do not use a mold like the mudslide or moonshine, so they have a few irregularities on the surface. However I think I am up to 10 of these slides and only one had a big enough issue to cause problems while playing. I have bought so many as everyone I know that playes slide I let them try mine and it has been rare that I get it back.
They do cost a bit more than some of the Dunlop versions, but the RMS Shavano is so superior to any of the Dunlops I do not mind paying a bit more.
