I own 15 guitars. I found out that my Fender Strat was the best fit for this device. I screwed the pickup down and that did the trick nicely. I didn't bother with double-sided tape, as if I ever wanted to return my U.S. Strat back to original, I would only have to replace the plastic pickguard piece since it had two small holes in it. I could see that my Les Paul would have been quite a bit more of a hassle.I have been gigging with it and my GR-20 and I have had no problems, and don't want to give it up! Especially for the warm string sounds. It's like having a keyboard player without paying for one.

I have spent the better part of ten or more hours (over the period of a few months) trying to tweak this pickup and I'm still getting some horrible results. First of all, this pickup WAS NOT made for my guitar. I play a 2005 Maton (Australian made guitar), which has a bridge not suited for the GK-3. While I tried two different placements (one between the guitar's pickups, which was WAY over 20mm from the bridge) and the other right in front of the bridge (putting it TOO close to the string causes some popping). My biggest complaint is having to remove the strings every time I need to adjust the pickup. Not only that but I'm still not getting adequate levels on the 6th string. It's also very frustrating that the instruction book doesn't take into account other guitar bodies (it really needs more troubleshooting details). I think I've nearly mangled the GK-3 yokes trying to adjust the unit. As it is now, my action is laughably bad because of this thing. The strings have to be a good 3mm from the fretboard. I'm playing through a VG-88, which is a good unit even without a GK pickup. It's too much of a pain to mess with this thing. I'd rather just buy a Roland-Ready guitar.

Comments about Roland GK-3 Guitar Pickup:

I love this machine but it does require that you learn how to use it. Which means you have to relearn how to manipulate the guitar. Once you do its totally worth. There are some glitches with sound hiccups popping in , but in the studio it can be remedied easy enough. The actual pickup itself has been improved but volume knob is in a gad place and you should have a choice of jumper jacks. For instance; I have ans SG and striagth jacks stick out to far.

My 2nd GK 3 pickup

By Ron Eaton

from Texas

Comments about Roland GK-3 Guitar Pickup:

I purchased this 2nd gk for my Jackson, 1st pickup was installed on my strat. Love the many different sounds I got from the Roland GR 55. Both Guitar sounds great, with the jackson, a slight increase in a tone. Not bragging but I have been playing guitar sense I was knee high to a grasshopper. I don't do the weekend giging around Houston anymore but I do enjoy playing with our 6 piece church band. Really adds alot when you need a flute or a bango, well anyone who owns the Gr 55 knows about the large amount of instrument sounds you can produce. Just to be safe I purchased the second pickup to have handy as a backup guitar. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a Roland GR-55 from Musician's Friend and if it's not right for you, then return it. What a deal, best deal around I say. Hey don't take my word for it.
What the heck, this is my first time to write a review, Just read the first one and be done.

I caught VG

Comments about Roland GK-3 Guitar Pickup:

this through a vg-99 is too addicting. come on, dual sounds, my whole step down-octave lower- 12string gibson setting into a metal stack, mixed with a customized strat with chorus into a chunked out marshall, then my actual 7 string left handed carvin though my boss me-50 into an 2x12 amp then midi out to my keyboard is insane.1 guitar four sounds ,im hooked up into the the digital age.and this isnt even scratch the surface of what you can do. highly recomend the gk-3 if you dont have a midi fitted guitar

No hasle great sound

Comments about Roland GK-3 Guitar Pickup:

I was sold when I heard the B3 sounds. There is no latency as others had suggested. Easy set up, a little costly. I use it constantly thru a Zoom 16 track. I have a problem removing my head phones and letting it go till the next session..it's too much fun!!!

GR20 with GK3

By manoj pant

from India

Comments about Roland GK-3 Guitar Pickup:

I bought a GK3 attached to a left handed Epiphone Les paul standard guitar and am using it with the GR20. I got the retailer to install the GK3 and it works out really well. I use it with a Roland 30(cube). All the sounds are quite authentic though I don't get much sustain on the Grand Piano sound. The strings are outstanding. I have some problems with the ethnic sounds as the mixed ones ( sitar+voice+tabla) works in a funny way. I can hardly hear the sitar and the vox dominates. I find it only worthwhile if mixed in with the regular guitar sound. This mixing also works well on the bass guitar options. Still experimenting and the possibilites are immense. Certainly a good buy.

Trying for that late 80s GD Sound

By TheOtherOne

from Scranton, PA

Comments about Roland GK-3 Guitar Pickup:

Being a huge Grateful Dead fan, I was hoping to be able to get some of the sounds that Jerry and the boys would create during the "space" portion of their concerts. I bought a MexiStrat to install the system to and it works ok. There are extensive instructions, and reading through them helps substantially, but maybe I was expecting more. I could not have been more excited about getting this, but the end result is a slight letdown.

It will work. Read ALL instructions

By Thadlhorse

from Kalispell, Montana

Comments about Roland GK-3 Guitar Pickup:

Wish I'd known about this thing 40yrs ago. I had a GK 2A pickup, thought I could better it with a GK 3. I learned I had to read all instruction and notes. I play through a Roland GR 30, use a FS 100, two FS 5U switches and I have controll over alot of sounds. It takes a lot of time to get it together. After installing the GK 3 had to tweak every program. Every sound level feel touch etc.has to match I wouldn't give it up ever The GK3 is not perfect but a step up,I'm sure Roland is working on improvements. Trial and error it will work
