Comments about Rotosound RS665LB Bass Strings:

I've been using RotoSound bass strings for over 30 years on all my basses - there are simply no other strings that sound as good - I've watched the price change over the years, but Musician's Friend is hard to beat.

It's difficult to find a low 'B' string for a five-string bass that's not muddy and dead - the original strings on my ESP D-5 included - but RotoSound strings are consistently clear and bright, with outstanding sustain. They are hard on the frets, but that's characteristic of a round-wound string - and the sound is worth it.

My only complaint is that the flimsy mailing envelope allowed the strings' packaging (eco-friendly cardboard) to be destroyed during shipping - luckily, the strings themselves were undamaged.

I will likely buy from them again, provided they offer a bit more protection for my purchase.

Comments about Rotosound RS665LB Bass Strings:

I love these strings. I started playing about 8 years ago. At first I did not know what some players were talking about when they used words like "tone" "growl" or "Bite" but after putting on a set of these on my bass I quickly learned what those words mean! Today I use these on ALL my basses. My 5 string Warwick corvette gets these put on it and my 4 string Spector NS-2A gets the (45-105) set. These work very well for the style I play. Yes they are a bit pricey but its because they are imported from England. They have great snap and bark that works well with my active EMG pups' on my basses. All I can say is TRY EM' OUT!!

    Great strings for lower tunings!

    By Whisky Rebellion

Comments about Rotosound RS665LB Bass Strings:

I recommend these strings to any player looking to enhance their tone. As I stated before, some may find the steel strings a bit harsh to their ears...if you're one of these players, check out the nickel variation. Either way, you won't be disappointed!
I've been using Roto Swing Bass 66 (steel) strings since '94. Nothing has the thunder and grind of these UK-made, handwound beasts! Up until recently, my gauge of choice was 45-105, or 45-130 for my 5-strings.

My new band, The Whisky Rebellion (www.whisky-rebellion.com) uses both drop-C and D-standard tunings, and the heavier 50-110 set still feels a bit floppy. So I decided to go for this 35-120 gauge 5-string set. I ditch the 35 gauge string, and I'm left with a 55-120 set, perfect for D- and drop-C tunings. The tension is perfect, whether they're on my 34" scale bass or my 35" scale bass.
Rotos are known for being extremely bright, grinding strings. I play heavy rock, so that grind is key to my tone (along with a Spector bass, EMGs, and an Ampeg SVT). You may feel that the tone of steel Rotos is too harsh; I recommend the Swing Bass 66 nickel strings for you folks going for a more traditional-sounding roundwound. They last a very long time, especially if you wipe them down and give them a FastFret cleaning/wipedown when you're done playing. I play pretty heavily, and even though I now change my strings every show, in the past I have gotten over 4 months of heavy playing (hard rock/metal pretty much every day) out of a set once before breakage.
Sure, they're a bit on the pricier side, but you really do get what you pay for. Plus, considering the added cost to have the strings imported from the UK, they're really not all that expensive.

Great light gauge strings for all playing styles.

    By Brendon Shealy

    from Lexington, South Carolina, U.S.

Comments about Rotosound RS665LB Bass Strings:

These strings are some of if not the best bass strings I've used. And I've gone through numerous brands on multiple basses (including a six-string that I use for funk and fusion). I would highly recommend these strings for any bassist whether you're a beginner who wants something different (or more likely has, like me, broken a string), or are a seasoned bassist looking to improve his or her sound.
These strings are excellent for a variety of playing styles. From fingering and picking to slapping and tapping, these strings are sure to suit your fancy. I own a 2007 Fender American Standard Jazz Bass and use both a Workingman 15 SWR 160W bass combo amp from 1999 at my church and a three year-old Crate BT25 bass combo amp for practicing with my band. My bass sounds spectacular with both.
These strings deliver great tone whether I'm fingering or playing with a pick. Although they're a little rough on the fingers at first, you'll get used to it after a few hours of committed playing. Just keep them out of the heat, because they'll go dead if kept in the heat for too long.
I believe that they're reasonably priced per set, and the tone is worth even more than that in my opinion. Just be ready to replace them every four to five months if you want to keep the vibrant tone.

    Great Strings!!

Comments about Rotosound RS665LB Bass Strings:

I just got these, because i bought a five string fender jazz bass. I put them on and it made it sound sooo much better than the fender strings that were already installed. The great thing about these strings is the gauge isnt too heavy or too light they are just perfect. I also use Rotosounds on my four string fender p bass these strings are great.
