While bass is not my main instrument, I'm enough of a bass lover to have developed quite an ear for the bass. I've played lots of strings and generally like GHS boomers (nickel) for their smooth feel, long life, consistent sound, etc. I've played all kinds of strings over the years (dr, trace elliot, dean markley, d'addario, ghs, fender, sadowsky, etc.)

So, here's the bottom line. The sound of these strings is THE SOUND. Like certain vintage gear, it is impossible to talk about this product without noticing the negative, but that is always outshined by one attribute.... authentic, one-of-a-kind tone. In my experience, these strings can go from live to super dead overnight (cleaning with rubbing alcohol and/or boiling helps for a while). They also feel rough, even more so than typical steel strings (you can get used to it though).

The good, there is a signature crunchiness in the way these strings vibrate against the fretboard that I've never heard with any other string and it instantly reminds me of Chris Squire, Jaco, Geddy Lee, etc. As soon as I find a better string that sounds like this, I'll change my review. Until then, there is nothing I know of that sounds like these and if you're looking for THAT SOUND, this is it!!!

Normally I use roundwound nickel d'addarios, but I heard Geddy Lee uses these so I thought I'd try them out. The strings feel like sandpaper and unless your playing anything but whole notes the strings constantly grab and tear up your fingers, basically eliminating any speed in your playing. Also, there is a ton of fret noise. I had high expectations for these strings but they're unplayable in my opinion.

Comments about Rotosound RS66LD Long Scale Swing 66 Bass Strings:

I have used RotoSound Bass Guitar for the past 30 (thirty) years and have never ever had and problems with them. They are the best at not getting out of tune. Sweet, sweet sustain carries for days. They will make the cheapest Bass guitar sound great!! And that's a fact Jack. Try them and you will see.

Comments about Rotosound RS66LD Long Scale Swing 66 Bass Strings:

All through the 60's and 70's I used RotoSounds. To be honest, I'm not really sure why I stopped. Recently I was talking to another player who had returned to the fold and I decided to give them a whirl again. We strung up 6 basses and had a go.....and I've got to tell ya'....They say "You Can't go Home Again"....I say you can. Nice to be back with you RotoSound.

      Bass-ically Yours,
      RB

I've been using these strings live and in the studio for 30 years. They are the standard by which all other roundwound strings are measured.

Comments about Rotosound RS66LD Long Scale Swing 66 Bass Strings:

After trying MANY types of strings on the market over the years, I find myself always coming back to these. They have the growl like nothing else that can cut through just about any mix.

Comments about Rotosound RS66LD Long Scale Swing 66 Bass Strings:

An old friend, Rotosound has always been my choice of bass string since The Who Sell Out album. "Keep your band together, with Rotosound strings... more music, more music, more music". Excellent quality, long lasting, great sounding strings. I bought into John Entwistle's endorsement on that album many decades ago and have never regretted it.

What more can you say about such classic strings. I use them on my fretted, fretless, acoustic and now my Steinberger. They are always consistent and have a great tone on any bass I've ever put them on.
