I've used these on 3 different guitars in the past including the set I just ordered for my Ibanez.
They are great and secure.
The same problem however on all sets I've bought, were the screws!
They have a diameter about half the size of every original screw I have removed from my guitars.
You cannot use the original screws for 2 reasons: The screw head will not fit into these locks. The second problem is you have to drill the lock hole bigger to use a larger diameter screw, but then are faced with the problem of the screw head being too big.
Still scratching my head as to why they are made with such a small diameter screw when clearly almost every guitar has a screw diameter almost twice the size of these strap provided screws.

Here's another concept.
Tell the potential buyer what size screws you use.
If the product description said, "Includes #6 screws", I may have pulled one of mine, saw it wasn't a #6 and looked elsware.
Should be the perfect solution. But...........
When every guitar mounts their buttons with #8 screws, why would you design your product to use #6?
You can't drill out the hole, because it's already too big. And you can't simply use the old screws, because the heads need to fit inside the new buttons.

You even include extra screws. Nice touch except that they are just longer #6 screws.
Here's an idea. Make the buttons to accept either #8 OR #6 and include extra #8's?
Genius!
Or, tell the nice folks in China to make it to fit #8 screws, then you can have the optiion of drilling out the hole a tiny bit.

Instead, the buyer is left to fill in the holes with toothpicks and wood glue, then drill out a smaller hole, or, do as I will, look for a better strap lock.
Should be great, except for the screws.
How do I receive value on something I have to modify?

If these fail, you are doing something wrong!

Comments about Schaller Guitar Strap Locks and Buttons (Pair):

I've been using these for 25 yrs and I have never ever had a single issue with them.

A) If you experience a failure due to the lock un-threading, that means you didn't tighten the nut sufficiently. Don't be shy, grab a wrench and tighten that sucker! Check it every now and then to make sure it's still tight. That's normal maintenance routine when doing a checkup on your guitars. I check mine every couple months and 90% of the time they are fine.

B) If you experience a failure due to the strap button coming loose, I will bet my last penny that you used the screws that came with the locks instead of re-using your guitar's original screws, didn't you! Why would you use a generic size screw that is probably not the right size for your specific guitar? Common sense people - use your guitar's original screws, to verify a secure fit.

I highly recommend these, but like most things, they need to be installed properly in the first place. That is all.

Other designs are much better

Comments about Schaller Guitar Strap Locks and Buttons (Pair):

There are 2 major flaws with the design- The first being that it's a threaded nut and shaft design so no matter how much you tighten them they eventually come loose because you're tightening them over a soft pliable material (the strap) and movement over time causes them to loosen and if not checked regularly you WILL find out the hard way when your guitar hits the floor. Second flaw is that they squeek when the strap moves so don't use them during quiet recordings (unless you like unwanted squeeky noises in your recordings of course). I suppose this can be fixed with some WD-40 or something but the first flaw is the deal breaker for me...
Threaded nut eventually comes loose.
They're good quality parts but poor design.
The Dunlops are cheaper and are a far superior design.

Comments about Schaller Guitar Strap Locks and Buttons (Pair):

I've used these on several guitars. I've never had a set give me any problems, though it is important to tighten up the nut enough so it doesn't work lose. A couple of notes. Unfortunately, these like other brands require that you cut the strap opening a bit to remove some material or it won't attach properly. Also, the nickle version tends to squeak quite a bit. The chrome and black do not.

I use these on all my guitars and have never had one fail. I thought I'd address a few complaints I've seen here. A little locktite will keep the nut from ever coming loose on the strap. The smaller screw size can easily be compensated for with toothpicks and glue (as mentioned in other reviews). Also, the Fender American Standard strap buttons sold here at Musicians Friend are compatible with these locks. No need to buy the whole kit for every guitar.

ALL supplied screws are smaller than stock button screws on my prestige ibanez.

Both supplied screws are the same size the other one is just longer. I will try to find some screws at my local hardware store or put some toothpicks to make it tighter.

The bolts on strap ends barely fit. IF your strap ends are thick you will probably have a problem with these.

How much is your guitar worth to you? Worth enough that you don't want to see the strap come loose from the stock button and hit the floor? I have installed these on all of my guitars (3 of which are Les Paul customs worth between $3000-$4000 apiece) and I have had ZERO problems with them. Easy to install, I haven't had a strap accidentally come loose on me yet (you have to pull up on the button of the piece that's mounted to the strap to release it from the guitar). These are cheap insurance against guitar damage, so BUY A SET!!!

I've known this brand for decades, known for the quality of their tuning machine heads. I knew I couldn't go wrong. I put this set on my Hofner bass, which by design, could become unstrapped from the front knob due to the placement and small size of the body.

I would like to put these strap locks on all my guitars eventually if I feel there is a vulnerability for the strap to pop off.

I was kind a hesitant to put it on my Gibson at first after reading all the blogs about not the same screws or smaller than the original screws. But when I tried it on my Gibson 2003 LP traditional, it fits perfect, I've notice the screw's are little bit thiner than the original but after Installation, it's strong perfect fit! I used the longer screws at the bridge pick up to make sure but it's really sturdy...strong.. No need for modifications. Perfect fit.....!

I have used other straplock systems and these are the best so far that I have used. The locking system is easy and does not require drilling holes. The only draw back is that leather straps are thicker than the post allows for, so you may need to cut some of the strap. Other than that issue great staplocks!

Tried the Dunlops, and they are ugly. Ugly. Just plain Ugly. These Schaller's look nice, and look like they belong.
Maintain them. Just like anything else "mechanical", they need PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE. Check the hardware from time to time to make sure everything is snug and you will NEVER drop your guitar.

Comments about Schaller Guitar Strap Locks and Buttons (Pair):

Comparable in quality to the strap locks made by D****p, but the nuts that clamp the female end of the lock to the strap slowly come loose, and must be frequently checked. Just quickly hand tighten them every time you pull it out of the case.

I may go to an auto parts store and get some threadlock compound to put on them. The stuff is super watery, and you don't want to get it on the strap, or finish of the guitar, tho...

I have two Fender basses that were assembled with the male-post ends of these straplocks screwed into their bodies as standard equipment, but the female ends that fit on the strap were not included. One is Mexican, and the other is American made.

One other small minus is that the Schallers have slightly sharp edges that can leave dings in the guitars finish, if the strap is left attached to the guitar when it is put away in the case. Of course, if you have a "Roadworn" type guitar, that is not an issue.

If I was to pick a favorite between these and the "D" brand, i would pick the "D's" by a slight margin...

The D's are a little easier to hook on, but the posts are a little longer, and can feel a little awkward because they hold the guitar a little farther from your body, if the post is screwed into the back side of the guitars upper horn (Pointing toward your left armpit, if you are a right handed player.) The D's screws are a little longer and fatter, so they are better anchored into the guitar body...but the holes must be drilled deeper and wider.

If you have a really thick leather strap, the Schallers are a bit easier to screw on than the ones that are held on by D's post and circle clip style..which you will also need a pair of pliers (needle nose the best) to install...but then again, the screws can loosen themselves...

The bottom line is that if you can get a better deal on the Schallers,go for it. If your Fender came with 'em, go for it, and buy a set, so you have the female ends to attach to the strap. Just check the nuts frequently.

I got these in black for the black Les Paul 60s Tribute guitar in ebony I bought two years ago. I'm glad two sizes of screws were included as the short ones came in very handy during installation, which was a piece of cake. It will be interesting to see if the black finish rubs off any during use. Strap locks are the best insurance for keeping your guitars strapped to your body. I highly recommend these. In fact, I'm ordering another set for another guitar I have.

If the screws are too small for your guitar, simply get a toothpick (I used round) and put it in the hole with some glue, break it off at the top of the hole and drive the screw in. You don't even need to wait for the glue to dry.

Comments about Schaller Guitar Strap Locks and Buttons (Pair):

These are the only strap locks I have used because they work without problems. The other brands I've seen are just to big and ugly. The only issue I have with this product is that the part that screws to your strap loosens after time. Usually a nut falls off when you least expect it. (Because they work so well the rest of the time) Other than that, I've had no other problems. I only wish they sold the female pieces separately. Most guitarist have 3 - 5 straps, but may have 25 guitars. You do the math.

I've tried other brands and styles, but I found these strap-locks to be the best. They're inexpensive enough that I have them on almost every guitar I own.
