Comments about Seymour Duncan AHB-1 Blackouts Humbucker Set with Metal Covers:
I changed out the pick ups in a Gibson Les Paul Classic with this set in nickle. The original 500t pickup sounded muddy in my recent Mesa aqusition. My other LP sounded sweet, so I figured it was the pickups holding me back.
2 of the pots didn't fit in my Les Paul, the shafts where not long enough to clear the top. Fortunately the shop I took it to get them changed at, had experience and parts selection. Knob indicators didn't fit either. Then the knobs wouldn't fit without minor persuasion... If your fitting these on a Les Paul, prepare for battle. Not exactly sure what values of pots are needed, but the ones I have now work. And work well they do!
I understand these where most likely not set up for a LP, but they should have an option to. They sound awesome. Now both my Mesa and Peavey 5150 love the tone. Lots of sustain, plenty of tone on tap. I rolled the vol and tone knobs back, and very distinct clear changes in the sound.
Set backs aside, they sound really good. They should have a LP set, with long shaft pots, or just sell them with out-just tell you the values you should get.
Comments about Seymour Duncan AHB-1 Blackouts Humbucker Set with Metal Covers:
I've been playing metal for about 20 years and most metal players are most interested in the sound in the bridge....I would put it somewhere between an sh-14 (custom 5) and an sh-6 (duncan distortion).
I only gave 9 for features because these things pick up smudges worse than anything I've ever seen, and they seem tarnished a bit as a result. Otherwise all aces for parts. Everything is included but wire (go with 22 gauge) and the toggle.
Duncans quality has always been the best in my opinion.
Some people will tell you that the clean sound is a bit "crunchy". It's not, the install requires a little bit of wiring knowlege. There is a feedback loop in the diagram, don't connect it until the capaciter has been charged first (plug it in to a non-stereo amp) then attach the feedback loop. It'll be clear as a bell.
I got this kit for less than it would cost for the collection of parts.
Comments about Seymour Duncan AHB-1 Blackouts Humbucker Set with Metal Covers:
Just installed these on my Ibanez RGA72QM to replace the originals Ibanez LZ3B/ LZ3N, I bought the black chrome set and they looks great with the Cosmo black hardware.I have EMG?s 81 ? 85 on my other guitars but this time I decided to try this set to confirm all the good comments I heard about them. When I bought them I was afraid about the installation since this set does not comes with a solderless kit like the EMG?s, any ways there is always a first time, so I took the time to set all the tools required and after one hour everything was done. Put new strings then I plugged my guitar and WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! What a great sound the difference is amazing, high output and rich in harmonics. This is a great upgrade for your guitar, little bit painful installation but if you follow the diagrams you can do it yourself, of course you need the right tools also.I?m giving them three stars on features just because they have only one disadvantage??the lack of a quick connection kit.
Comments about Seymour Duncan AHB-1 Blackouts Humbucker Set with Metal Covers:
I have these pups installed in a Dean ATF3000 ML. The first thing I notice, is that these pickups are HOT. Extremely high output. Feedback is not bad and the tone is deffinitly better than EMGs. I use a Bugera 6262 Head, and the clean channel with these pups simply doesnt work. Because of the insane output, the clean channel sounds more like a crunch. This is my only complaint, and I'm not certain this will happen to everyone.Amazing pickups overall, but be forworned: THEY ARE HOOOOTTT.
Comments about Seymour Duncan AHB-1 Blackouts Humbucker Set with Metal Covers:
Perfect, just perfect, everything my Epiphone Les Paul Custom needed for to play Punk and Alternative music, I'm not really a big fan of Metal, so anyways u can tell the difference of these pick-up's to the stock pick-up's, their powerful, and somewhat noiseless. I dont know how but amazing, I gotta tell ya these are the one thing you need for your Guitar.Just goes great playin' Anberlin and Saosin for me other's I dont know so ya just great pick-up's.
