OVERVIEW

With a raised D & G pole for better string response and output at the bridge position.

The Seymour Duncan Antiquity for 1955 Tele recreates that year's innovation in Tele pickup design. After early production of the flat pole lead pickup for Telecaster, the pickups were manufactured with a raised D & G pole for better string response and output. These classic pickups had great sound too, and Seymour Duncan decided to re-create the look and sound of this classic.

To some, this is craziness, intentionally creating an aged electrical component. But if you're like Seymour Duncan, and you appreciate the personal commitment and hand craftsmanship found in early electric guitars, then you'll want to capture that timeless beauty with an Antiquity pickup.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Antiquity for 1955 Tele Pickup:

I purchased set of the AntiquityII Tele of 1955 pups for a 96 American Standard with a maple neck. The pickups in the guitar prior to installation of these magic gems were the original Deltazone neck pup and a Duncan Hot Rails bridge. The difference was night and day. I was skeptical about going back to a single cool bridge pickup, but I'm glad I did. The 1955 neck and bridge are wonderful on their own, but the sound of both pickups on my rig is magical. That spank you want is there. That chime you want is there. It wasn't a jangly sound. Oh no. It has balls. The neck pup is buttery smooth, crystal clear, has excellent string dynamics, and has a wonderful bass presence on the low strings. The bridge pup has all of the tele snarl we love, but it easily drives my 59 LTD Bassman to just dirty if I want it to. The dynamics are intact with the bridge pup as well. Together they have a Strat like punch and presence but with tele spank thrown in for good measure. I have never been so amazed by a pup swap, ever. I checked out noiseless pups, blackguards, broadcasters, etc... I have to say though that this gives my standard a broadcaster vibe. It is amazing.

The fit and finish of these pickups is vintage for sure. Don't expect shiny and new. They are relics. The wax is thick, the wires are dingy, the chrome on the neck pup is scuffed, and the screws are a little rusty. Read up on the build techniques SD uses. The end results are amazing.

So the rundown on my rig...

Fender 96 American Standard Tele Maple
        Fender '59 LTD Bassman

I tested them thru just the amp. Perfect combo with the Bassman and the rely modified Tele.

Get these pups if you want that vintage tone.

One note, the included schematics with the pups are for an esquire and a 53 Tele. Rewired to the 1953 schematic, it sounded horrible. The neck pup was dead and flat and the bridge was nasal and harsh. I went to Duncan's website and just wired it back to American Standard specs. It was awesome then!

Comments about Seymour Duncan Antiquity for 1955 Tele Pickup:

I've been building, playing, repairing guitars (mostly Tele's) since the mid 60's, I've tried just about every type of tele pickup made, these are hands down the best vintage style tele pickups available!!!
