      Seymour Duncan

Faithful replicas of the great sounding "patent applied for" humbuckers of the '50s.

The Seymour Duncan Antiquity Humbuckers are made to look and sound like a well-worn '50s humbucker as originally designed by Seth E. Lover. The pickups are built to traditional standards. Each has its own character and DC resistance, just like the originals. The nickel silver cover and the poles are aged to give the player a pickup that looks like it's been played regularly for 40 years.

The neck position model includes a front-tapered mounting ring and the screws that go with it.

Like the neck position model, the bridge position humbucker is a faithful replica of the great sounding "patent applied for" humbuckers that Seth E. Lover designed in 1955. The bridge pickup is wound a little hotter and better balanced for its position. The mounting ring is slightly higher for the increased pickup height.

Both pickups are not wax potted to retain the sound and appearance of the originals. Again, each pickup is built by hand in the "Antiquity" room and every magnet and bottom plate are signed to guarantee that you are getting an original Seymour W. Duncan Antiquity. Hookup wire includes the classic braided "push back" cloth braid wire.

To some, this is craziness, intentionally creating an aged electrical component. But if you're like Seymour Duncan, and you appreciate the personal commitment and hand craftsmanship found in early electric guitars, then you'll want to capture that timeless beauty with an Antiquity pickup.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Antiquity Humbucker Pickup:

Loove these pickups! Ive put the antiquities in a couple of Teles Ive had and theyre great and I just recently put them into my Sheraton II and it was like night and day. The sheraton sounded pretty good before but I HATE the gold hardware and changed everthing out to nickel. I put the pickups in and adjusted the height, and it sounds so full and responsive. they arent hot pickups so if youre looking for a heavier sound these may not be for you. However, if you like that vintage sound (think Rolling Stones and maybe even the Strokes), these are perfect. I admit that I think the covers are too heavily reliced and wish i could get them as new but this is a minor issue. One thing to note is if you have a non-American made guitar, the mounting rings will not fit without drilling new holes. However I just put the ones on that came on the guitar and had no issues.

        Truly Vintage Excellence

        By Keith Greenfield

        from New Mexico

Comments about Seymour Duncan Antiquity Humbucker Pickup:

I bought a set of these to replace the stock pickups in a project Epi Paul, and couldn't be happier with them. My personal preferences in tone have always leaned towards a very vintage pickup, even for heavier distortion playing, and these Antiquities nail it for me. Both the neck and bridge pickups are full and clear. The neck is thick and warm, but not muddy, while the bridge has more edge on the mids. Both have great individual string presence, even while playing with heavy distortion. Picking within a ringing chord is clear as a bell.
Probably not be the way to go for tight, staccato metal, but anywhere else in the humbucker gambit.

The aged finish might not do it for everyone. I think It's great, especially on a pickup that's built like they were 50 years ago. I've been playing for a bit, and most of my favorite guitars that have passed through my possession were around just as long as me if not longer, so that aging just feels right to me.

Vintage style PAF pickups like the Antiquities have become a hot thing these days, and a lot of stock pickups claiming vintage share similtarites to true vintage construction, but are still very modern in design. One factor being the wax potting that goes into modern PAF pickups, which is done mostly for stage feedback reduction, but overall puts the pickup in a different tonal catergory from a vintage, non-potted pickup. Aside from some very high doller boutique pickups, the Antiquities are a true non-potted PAF design, and don't cost like the boutiques.
Dollar to tone, these are excellent.
Built like a truly vintage two wire pickup with cloth wire shielding and braided mesh outer ground wire. Hand aged metal cover, pole screws and plates.
Excellent tone quality, handcrafting, and finish.
Considering the kind of money one can shell out for a real used vintage pickup, or newly built boutique pickups, these are an incredible value. Most of the boutique brands, or even other popular companies producing PAF style humbuckers, can run upwards of $600 for this kind of quality.

        antiquity's blow ya bloody mind!

        from Birmingham, Alabama

Comments about Seymour Duncan Antiquity Humbucker Pickup:

if i run across a good looking exc. cond. epi lp I will pick it up. Icompletely rewire them to a certain year(whatever am going for) but always replace pots w/ cts pots, sprague orange drop or bumblebee capacitors, and a gibson roller 3 way toggle and s. duncan pickups in 2, and gibson burstbuckers in my custom, 1 w/ s. duncans has the alnico pro p/u's,the 2nd one that i just put a better than factory finish on was black/creme well i went with stew macs transparent amber which is what i use for the middle section of any burst paint job,but i did the entire front in amber(same color as slash's artist series epi. instead of laying down a flamed maple veneer, i used a curly showed thru perfect, then back & sides of body in red and red up back and sides of neck, always leave front of headstock alone because i am not trying to fool anyone its an epiphone anyway this i had decided to order slash,s s. duncan alnico 2 pro humbuckers but was in local guitar shop were i take most and they go on consignment so that they are there to be played, the tech and i were talking and he said have you ever heard an antiquity, no i said, he asked tryed a seth lover i said yes love them for ones i'm keeping, he said antiquity blows it away peaople hear remake of somthing seth did back in some only a few gibsons in the 50's and even though most want that original brit sound if thats all it gave it would'nt be modern enough to play alot of todays rock, but not these if i'm keeping the axe i let them take pics to show what can be done by a guy they know(me) for paint, but if its sumthing i'm playn and keepn i usually only replace bridge cause all i play is lead/treble but i got neck and bridge( bridge is plenty for scorching leads from zepplin to slash) but rythym is very warm and beatle type british well worth the money when u get them they are custom wrapped and cust. boxed and signed by seymor himself there is one corner of the duncan factory called the antiquity room, when u unrap u may think these chrome covers have a haze or film on them thats the antique look, but if u dont like cause i didnt it didnt match my chrome hardware. take some desolder braid from radioshack that is what its called(do not try to take solder joints on backsides of covers were they put to keep sides tight off w/ flathead or pop off w/anything) take desolder touch solder gun to braid and then solder and sucks it right up, then take screws out of front of crome cover, yes the pickup screws, once cap/cover is off they are zebra bobbins underneath, reinstall screws flush, and u have to perfect zebra p/u's played just thru my haze40 marshall no pedal board on at all vol. of amp at 3 or 4 people can't believe. have been offered 1250.00 for an axe that i have 250.00 in plus 100.00 materials and 225.00 for p/u's thats 575.00 total. but i am doing another for the guy. he called 2-3 times/week for two months about it so i sent him to a guy who had an epi like mine as far as solidbody and her. cherry w/creme so he bought it for 300.00 and i put new pots, caps, rewired some and installed a antiquity bridge in it ans a s. duncan '59' zebra in neck, hes exstatic, like me plays lead all time but if turns on both they blend good also and total axe,p/u's,labor, and parts 525.00 total not bad easy to do go with antiuity in atleast the bridge next time ur looking for a great p/u. my PRS will have one in bridge soon has factory zebra's so i'll leave neck alone and antiquity that bridge!!!!!!!!!!
