Blackout the bad hum, crank up the tone.

Seymour Duncan Blackouts are 9-volt active neck and bridge humbuckers that provide more extended frequency response with less compression. Seymour Duncan engineers have captured the tone players want in an active design with the benefits of balanced inputs.

Not only do Seymour Duncan Blackouts active humbuckers have less hum than most active humbuckers, they also have more lows, more highs, and more output. Simply put, the Blackouts have more tone than most active pickups. Players will find far fewer problems with hum, especially near computer monitors and fluorescent lighting.

Blackouts come as a two-pickup set of neck and bridge humbuckers. All versions come with all necessary mounting hardware, including pots, jack, and a battery clip.

Put it in the cart and give your tone a big boost.

Simply the best pickups for heavy metal. These pups came in my Schecter Blackjack ATX Avenger. My previous guitar was a Schecter Hellraiser Solo-6, which has emg 81/60 in it. Lets just say that I have to turn the gain all the way up on my amp when i'm using that guitar to even come close to the sound of the Blackouts, and the Blackouts still sound better. As for clean, the emg's have the advantage, but if your wanting the best sound out of your guitar for metal, these pickups are for you.

Seymour Duncan straight up ripped off EMG with these "Blackouts". They sound decent, but it would be great if Duncan could just do their own thing. These are good for modern/hard rock and nu metal stuff, but not real METAL. They're way to "middy" and not nearly enough treble. And honestly, look at who plays EMGs: Metallica, In Flames, Jeff Loomis, Chimaira, Nickelback, TBDM, BFMV, Zakk Wylde, Kerry King, Machine Head, Stephen Carpenter, Killswitch Engage, The Haunted, Unearth, Coheed and Cambria...everyone). Who plays Blackouts...like, three artists (who used to play EMGs). These have a better balance of tone than EMGs, but if you want that real "cathedral-crumbling, shake the bowels of hell, summon Oden to your side" metal power, EMGs are still king.

These aren't bad pickups if you want metal all the time. The tone is good and the pickups would be great if they would cleanup. If you want a one dimensional guitar then the Blackouts are for you

              Best purchase ever!

Comments about Seymour Duncan Blackouts AHB-1 Humbucker Set:

I had a LTD with EMG's in it at one point, and it wasn't for me (dont get me wrong, sounded awesome when playing metal. However, the sound was too processed and soulless for me). I wound up getting rid of the LTD and buying my Gibson Gothic SG. Much to my chagrin, the passive pickups just didn't have the "oomph" for metal, so I had to get some actives...Right before I was going to buy a set of EMG's, one of my friends told me about these Blackouts. Now I swear by them. They were by far the best purchase I've ever made. You can get the perfect sweet sound you would get from a passive, while having the power of an active set. All the while it still sounds pure. No processed sound like you get from EMG's.long story short: Blackouts > EMG. 'Nuff Said.

              Blackout

I recently bought a set of these blackouts, and had them installed into my Ibanez, They made a huge difference, The clean tone not to be compared to the tight attack of emgs is still quite nice I personally like the clean better than emg because it sounds more real and less processed. But the distorted sound is amazing they are super hot but they aren't noisy like emgs or other high gain pups they deliver harmonics and palm mutes like you wouldn't believe if you are looking for active pups with some versatility, do not go with Emgs , these blackouts make emgs look like kid stuff

My Wife bought me these as a wedding gift. I put them on my Jackson Dinky. I was torn between the blackouts and EMGs. I am glad I chose the Blackouts. These things have great tone and high output. I have to dial the volume back when playing clean to avoid overdriving my amp. When playing overdriven, I also dial them back unless I want crazy harmonics and feedback! These things are versatile. Installation took some time. My Jackson was a three pickup guitar with a 5 way selector switch. I figured it out looking at wiring diagrams. I cracked open a few cold ones and took my time.I have EMGs on my ESP LTD and I think these Blackouts have them beat. Highly Recommended!!

              The EMG Killers

              By Negative 13

              from St Cloud MN

Comments about Seymour Duncan Blackouts AHB-1 Humbucker Set:

I've tried a lot of hi gain passives and used the 81/85 EMG set before, also tried flipping around and doing a 85/81 combo and these AHB-1s are the clear winner to my ears. Super tight lows, much more pleasant highs than the EMGs, much more organic and less compressed sounding too. I did kinda like the DiMarzio D-activator for passive though. That is a pretty good alternative if you dont want to do a lot of wiring or replace batteries ever. But, they still arent quite what you'll get with these guys. If I had one gripe about them, it would be this however non applicable to me and non affective to their sound. Unlike the emg's, these only came with 4 of the same size posts for the pots (short). I did not have the need for longer posts, but some of you might be dissappointed by that aspect. And nothing was pre-wired except the quik connect plugs. You have to put the entire input assembly together yourself as well but its easy and they give you all the wires you need for that. Or, just take it to a shop and let them worry about all that. Overall, a great value and can really be used by anyone. Less than EMG's and sounding much much better in this users personal opinion.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Blackouts AHB-1 Humbucker Set:

Well, I'd never likes EMG Actives (Very compresed and artificial to my taste), and I always have pasive pickups guitars. Once I have EMG HZ pickups and I liked but not too much. When I knew Seymour Duncan's JB/Jazz pickups and Ibanez pickups, my life changes. The Ibanez pickups are very close to Di'marzio I think and they are very organic and dinamic to play since death metal to soft rock or even pop. (I don't like pop by the way). That is amazing, wide range of music gengers with the same guitar pickups. But my favorites ones are SD, I love it some much. Thats the reason why I decide to try it's active pickups. Blackouts are Awesome, one of the best pickups I'd ever had. Good clean, Good distortion, very warm, very organic a high output. I'm installed it on a Epi Explorer Goth (Korean Made on 2005, very close to gibson sound, not like the chinese new ones that are very amateur). I have some fear to lose the gibson characteristic sound. But with these pickupts the guitar preserves it's sound and improve it at the same time.

OK as musicians we all seek for that sweet spot in tone that gives us our signiture sound... We spend lots of time blending and playing with overdrive and various things, but when it comes to these pickups they have all i'm looking for !!!! I bought these last week and threw them in my Les Paul before a show friday night... Took bout 30 minutes and another 30 to figure out what my settings were on my Marshall JVM Combo and my Carvin 100 watt amp... Got the rig tuned up and played a 2.5 hour show friday nite... Awsome !!! my buddies were shocked the distortion is tight and clean the cleans are bright and the mids, highs and lows are amazing !!! And this is the best place to buy them !!! Hands down !!! Musicians friend has a great deal on them !!! And my friends will be buying them too as well as I suspect, but this pickup is an awsome choice for actives its the best in my book so grab some and see for yourself !!!!!
