These are my first duncans but im going to definately get more for my other les pauls. Great buy, sound, and build.
these pickups are excellent in the ease of installation aspect. 5 wire leads along with the wiring diagram was pretty sweet, and if you are into having a lot of variation, the duncan website features a huge archive of wiring diagrams for virtually any configuration.
I only wish they included covers on the pickups.
Duncan pickups are some of the best pickups for a mahogany bodied guitar. I prefer them to gibson pickups just do the the supported midtones. I replaced the stock gibson pickups in my les paul and it really boosted my favorite aspects of the guitar; it had plenty of bass naturally but boosted the mids and highs.
I wouldn't reccommend them for a basswood or alder body though, dimarzios are a bit better choice.

It almost isnt fair: When you buy an inexpensive guitar, you are supposed to suffer the consequences. Supposed to, unless you decide to buy these pickups. I bought an epiphone les paul studio. Nice looking guitar, good quality, but the sound was lacking. It is like a whole new guitar. I play rhythm guitar, so I am on the neck pickup most of the time. It has a great little snarl at a lower volume, and if you turn it up, you are going to get that great bluesy tone that you are probably lacking. The bridge pickup is where I really notice the difference. I was running through a hybrid blues scale up and down the neck and thought something magical must have happened. The bite this guitar now has is out of this world. Now I have a great sounding, great looking guitar, that I am happy to gig with, and not worried some drunken idiot is going to knock something into it (like what happened to my buddies Gibson)

Comments about Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker Set:

I bought a PRS Single Cut in '09, nice guitar but the stock pup's were lacking... tried the Gibson '57/'57+ set in it but didn't care for it all that much, not bad just not hot enough when needed, so i replaced them with a SD JB/Jazz set and that did the trick.

Now i have the extra gain when needed, they clean up nicely with the volume knob and have that full body chug-a-chug-a thing going on that moves the air coming out of my amp/cabinet when playing rhythm and the solo tones are perfect, great sustain that breaks up into harmonic overtones nicely... please stand back or you may get hurt!

I've been playing electric guitar since the early 80's, don't know why i waited so long to try Seymours favorite set, tried the Distortion, Hot Rails, Lynch SD pup's and they all sounded good, but somehow to my ears this set is a heaven sent.

Hope this helped in the Great Tone Quest!
          :)

Comments about Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker Set:

I purchased this matched set to upgrade an Epiphone Les Paul Std. The stock pickups were muddy in the 200-400Hz range, and lacked top end sizzle. Bridge and Neck sounded lousy by themselves - only the center position was accepable to me. Even then I had to use an EQ pedal in front of my amp to get a good tone.

I considered Gibson USA pups, and listened online to samples from Gibson and Seymore Duncan. The Seymore's sounded just as good (online) and were priced better.

These pups are MUCH clearer than the originals while still delivering the fat humbucker "bark". The matched set was a bonus, as I would have chosen these two models anyway. I also installed two push-pull pots to take advantage of coil-splitting, and replaced the stock caps with .022 Orange Drops. The difference is amazing! I have greater clarity and definition, and the pups sound fantastic together or separately. Splitting coils just allows the guitar to be that much more versatile. I highly recommend this upgrade to those considering upgrading from the stock Epiphone pickups.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker Set:

This set of humbuckers is my go to set for any LP style guitar. The neck is clear and articulate and never gets muddy, yet it is not too bright. The Bridge is meaty and powerful, yet doesn't get overbearing and you can still dial in some spank.

They are a very rich set of pickups that bring out the best in your instrument. A lot of tonal nuance there. They are also perfectly balanced to each other so all settings on the switch give you what you need.

I recommend wiring the neck with a .22 cap and the bridge with a .47 cap with 500K pots for volume and tone.

I bought these to replace the stock pickups in my Gibson Studio Les Paul. The Gibsons were just too dark sounding for my tastes. I have used these pickups as replacements in other guitars in the past and have always been happy with their tone. I play a variety of music, from country to rock to metal...and these pickups are able to articulate the tones I need for each genre of music. There are so many types and manufacturers of pickups out there that it can be hard to know what to get, but this particular setup is a pro-quality set that will improve any guitars sound.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker Set:

First there's the little annoying things like the slotted screws for the pup height adjustment they use on all their models (I've bought anyway). Why slotted screws I have no idea, it's easy to slip and gouge something. Phillips head is the only screw I want near my pride and joy.

And there's the mess of wax any time you touch it anywhere. And poor wiring that is so tiny you can't strip it without ripping it. And the wire color inconsistencies in their diagrams, fortunately I can figure it out myself.

The reasons these didn't work out, the neck pup wouldn't fit because the pole screws are too long, making it impossible to lower the pup to the right height. I would have had to drill into the freshly set neck to make room and I'm not doing that for a pickup.

Then the bridge pup had a bad hum I couldn't fix, it was a defect internal to the pup but there's a lot of possibilities you have to rule out in the process, which took a lot of my time. I put the original pup back in, works fine.

This isn't the first time I've had problems with S-D pups. I've never had issues with DiMarzio so they get my business from here on out. But don't take my Hot Rail away from me, I love that one!

I put these in my 2012 Les Paul and the tone is great. The only negative thing I can say is that the tone difference when the pickups are switched to single coil is significantly less pronounced. Almost to the point that you can't tell if the single coil switch is engaged. I have to say that the tone improvement is so much better that I will overlook this.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker Set:

I put the Hot Rodded Humbucker Set in my 2000 Gibson Les Paul Standard after playing it with a set of Seymour Duncan 59's installed for the past several years and absolutely love the sonic improvement. That particular Les Paul is a very dark sounding guitar that I bought new and had the stock 490's in it, which I personally can't stand the sound of. The 59's sound great in my '90 Les Paul, which is a lighter and brighter sounding guitar, but when I put a set of 59's in the 2000, it just didn't sound as good as I thought it should. I was getting ready to put the guitar on Ebay but thought "what the heck" and bought the Hot Rodded set and threw them in. When I restrung/intonated and plugged the guitar into my rig it was pretty dramatic - the mids weren't as scooped, the highs were much brighter and the bass was more compressed sounding. Actually, the over all sound was more alive sounding and more compressed on the bridge pickup and the neck pickup sounds more open and musical. It took a little while to get the pickups properly adjusted and after that I couldn't put the guitar down. It was easy to hear the improvement due to I have been using the same amps (Deluxe Reverb & JCM800)for several years and know my rig intimately. I think these pickups are perfect for that guitar. These Hot Rodded Humbucker pickup sets are a must if you own a darker sounding guitar and want a tighter sound with more bite and note articulation.

I installed these in one of my favorite guitars replacing active EMGs. I'm really, really happy I did. These pickups have a really nice, balanced tone and work well for the spread of music I play (rock, pop, funk). One issue I did notice, with the exact same setup (same amp, same settings, same room, etc.), I got feedback with these pickups, but I didn't with my other guitars (Burstbucker III, 57s) at the same gig. I had to roll my volume back a bit, so they seem so be a little too hot.

Overall, I'm really happy with them.
