Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:
This turned my underpowered PRS SE 245 bridge p/u from a Ford to a Ferrari. It really added a lot of power for Rock and Metal. It really works well combined with the stock neck 245 pick up. It gave it a whole new dimension together that never existed. If you get it installed, spend the extra and add an orange drop capacitor, it adds added tone and is highley recommended by seymour duncan sites as well. Love this p/u!
Pros
- Cuts Through

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:
I was rather surprised to find that this pickup, which is rated as a high output unit, actually has tons of tone, and doesn't just sound like metal. I'd say this is close to the most flexible pup in Seymour's line. Very happy with this.

- Lots Of Distortion
- Responds To Volume Knob
Cons
- Distorts Clean Channel
- Will Distort Cleans
Best Uses

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:
Picked this p/u to use in my Epi LP for heavier sounds and drop tunings. Although the SH-6 definitely delivers what I was searching for, it can be a little too much at times. The biggest con is having the volume knob rolled to 10 on a clean channel and overdriving the amp!! It will clean up however by rolling the volume knob back.....but then you will lose possibly needed volume.
Great for deep, chunky, crunchy metal but that's (in my opinion) all its good for. Originally, I had changed the stock Epi p/u with an SH-4 which now resides in my HSS Strat. Once I get around to ordering one, another SH-4 it will be. They're my favorite.
All in all, the SH-6 is a good p/u that will satisfy your metal needs. If you're like me and don't like active pickups, give this one a try or the Invader. Seymour-Duncan makes great products so whatever your taste is, be confident in buying any SD pickup.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:
The Duncan Distortion is a fantastic pickup that will give you power, clarity, and tone that will make you not want to put your guitar down. It has a tight low end, searing highs, and a midrange bite that will cut through any mix, live or in the studio. I have it in a Gibson Flying V and it sounds killer, and ... It cleans up amazingly ... I mean from sparkling clean, to crunch, and all the way up to shred caliber soloing; all just by using my guitar's volume knob! I love the Duncan Distortion!

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:
This pickup is far more versatile than its description and other users suggest. I hate how the Duncan Distortion is pigeon-holed as a "metal only" pickup. Not true!! Yes, it has power and drives an amp fairly hard, but it is well suited to any genre of music you'd like to venture. It is the most midrangey pickup you will find, and very trebly as well; but it is this eq that gives it it's clarity (no matter how much gain you use) and allows you to cut through the mix, live or in the studio. I play mainly hard rock, old school metal, and shred (think Satch, George Lynch, and Hendrix-y stuff) and I love the Duncan Distortion! It obeys my every command. Very touch sensitive, harmonic and high-fidelity. It also cleans up better than you think. I go from clean, to crunch, all the up to shred caliber gain just by using my guitar's volume knob.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:
I've tried many pickups like Gibson, Dimarzio, Duncan etc... and this one has never let me down. It's loud, aggressive, crunchy yet articulate. For a high output pickup it is well balanced EQ wise. The lows stay tight even when you tune down and the top end remains nice clarity for open chords. I have this pickup in my Les Paul and my rosewood neck strat which shows how versatile it is. The SH-6 isn't too picky on what you put it in.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:
I use this pickup as a rock pickup. I have it in a Gibson Les Paul and it works greatly with the mahogany. It is a hot pickup but I wound the pickup way down into the body to get a nice rock sound and then if I need a little more distortion I can adjust the height to get that sound. With a typical made-for-rock pickup you really can't get more distortion but with this you have variability and that's a big selling point for me. The clarity of this pickup is nice as well and it's a seymour duncan so the quality is there and it is greatly priced.
Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:
It's a great sounding pickup and good for the money!!
Depending on what guitar you put it in....you will probably love it. I play in a deathcore/grind type of band and this pickup rips!! I'm in B,F#,B,E,G#,C#. I had an Invader in it before which is a powerful
pickup for sure but a bit darker than I would like. The low end could get crazy and I had to dial it back.
If your guitar is a lighter wood type or you feel that it is lacking in lows, try the Invader! The Invader like any other pickup, needs the right guitar to really sing.
I use a Krank Krankenstein and a 1983 Gibson Corvus. I like different you could say! The stock pickups were terrible.
The SH6 is a bit brighter and seems to have better clarity as well. It is not as wild as the Invader in the output department but don't let that stop you. It has plenty of crunch and heat!! It chugs with authority and for my limited clean passages, it handles that pretty decent too..
I used to be an EMG 81 guy but anymore...I find them sterile and lacking in tonal character. I prefer the SH-6. It cops a nice ealry '90's Cannibal Corpse tone!
It's Seymour Duncan...that alone speaks enough of it's quality.
Pretty good! You could spend more and sound worse!!
Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-6 Distortion Humbucker Pickup:
I installed the SH-6n as a replacement for the stock humbucker in my Maestro Singlecut, which I have played through the Maestro GM-05 (five-watt, solid state), Peavey Rage 258 and Peavey Valveking 110, using no effects except for amp distortion. The difference in sound is phenomenal. The tone of the pickup itself is well worth twice the price. Using the SH-6, your guitar will sound like it's worthy of the highest-end Gibsons with a minimal investment and no change in feel. If your instrument doesn't sound very good, or if it does, or even if it sounds great, get this pickup. In the spectrum of passive pickups, you won't find a better one.
Features-wise, what can one expect from a passive humbucker? It fits, sounds awesome and has adjustable poles, which is a boast my stock pickup couldn't make.
I used the SH-6n to replace the stock humbucker in my guitar, and the sound by comparison is absolutely amazing.
To get the signature sounds of Coal Chamber, Papa Roach, Sevendust, Static-X and Testament, the Duncan Distortion can't be undersold.
