Seymour Duncan

One of the highest output pickups made.

The Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rail Stacked Single Coil Pickup is one of the highest output pickups made. It's a humbucker that fits into a normal single-coil pickup slot, so you get noise canceling without cutting a large hole in your guitar. The 2 thin blades with powerful coil windings give you the incredible sustain and fat, full sound that's needed for playing heavier rock music. This Seymour Duncan SHR-1 pickup responds to the subtlest finger movements.

How about a wake-up call in your studio from your Strat with Hot Rails????

Yes I am impressed at the gain and the kick of this SHR-1 Hot rails unit I installed at the bridge.

I have been playing since the 1950's and I have heard a lot of guitar talk and fluff.

This is the best thing I have ever used in all my years.

Quality:

This unit is beautifuly designed , and it is easy to install ( providing you know how to work on guitars ), and the instructions are great.

The packaging is top of the line and the unit is Ultra Quality.

If you are not handy with this type of work , you need to get professional help from your local music store.

Value:

You won't see another unit as well made , and for what you get in performance , this is a real bargain.

Overall:

The gain you get from this unit is very intense . The pinch harmonics and tap harmonics are yours to command , but you need to take your time getting on them.

The packaging of the unit is very good , and the instructions are easy to follow.

The wires are tiny , and you need a 75 watt soldering iron to make a good solder joint , and this is not for someone without experiance at soldering.

Back to the Hot Rails

Had a Hot Rails in the bridge of my Strat for a while. It was excellent for overdriven tones but would distort too much on cleans. So I then decided to get an Area 67 to replace it. That worked for a bit, but I started to find the 67 too low output and too trebly. Having heard good things about it I decided to try the Rails wired in PARALLEL in the bridge position and the 67 in the middle.

Let me tell you! The 67 was made for the middle position and the Hot Rails in parallel is well balanced, vocal and twangy (almost Tele-like) and handles overdrive like a dream.

I'm falling back in love with my Hot Rails.

I purchased the Seymour-Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails to team up with two Lace Sensor Gold pickup in my Stratocaster.  Wow.  The difference in output is amazing, and it gives me versatility that I would never have had with the standard pickups.  I can go from Gilmour and Hendrix tones with the Lace Sensor in the neck to downright abusive tone in the bridge.  Sounds positively brutal paired with a high gain amp.  Unfortunately, you look kind of goofy playing with high-gain distortion on a Strat:)

I got one of these to replace the Gold Lace Sensor in my Korean Strat's bridge. I was BLOWN AWAY! it really is like having a full sized humbucker in a single coil slot! If you get a resonable instalation price itl come out to about 100-110 bucks, even less for the do-it-yourselfers I play in Church as well as in a metal band, and guess what? because of the less powerful pickups in the neck and middle, i can use the SAME guitar for both!!! This is a great buy for hot rodding your axe!!
