Comments about Seymour Duncan SJM-3 Quarter-Pound Jazzmaster Pickup:

I put these on a MIJ Jazzmaster. I was surprised that these have the tall narrow coil like the MIJ pickup, not the shorter wider coils like real JM pickups. Also the magnets are huge beyond just being fat they also stick out another quarter inch behind the pickup, so they're about 3 times as tall as a real JM pickup. The magnets are real strong too, so you don't want to get them too close to the strings. I have another JM with SD Antiquity II pickups which I like much more, but I thought I'd try these for something different. Overall higher quality and much better tone than the stock MIJ pickups, but the sound is almost closer to a Jaguar than a real JM. Not quite what I was expecting, but they're still a nice improvement worth keeping.

Jazzmaster 1/4 lb. (neck)

Comments about Seymour Duncan SJM-3 Quarter-Pound Jazzmaster Pickup:

I put this pickup on my custom Jazzmaster project (I put a humbucker at the bridge), and it's great! An interesting blend of a vintage and a modern sound. It's so big and rich-sounding. Very nice lows and decent high-ends as well. Perfect for surf, alt/indie stuff, and it just sounds huge through a fuzz pedal. A little bit noisy, but it is a big single coil after all - I wrapped the sides and bottom of the pickup cavity with lots of shielding tape. I really, really like this pickup a lot.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SJM-3 Quarter-Pound Jazzmaster Pickup:

Definitely a hotter bridge pickup with a lot more mids. Similar to a p90 and it still has the nice clean tones of a typical jazzmaster. My stock Squier pickup was too bright and thin for my use and this pickup fixed that issue. I feel like my jazzmaster is more versatile now. Great for Rock, punk, grudge, and indie music. Pair this with some nice tube overdrive or some fuzz and you will be satisfied. Played this through an orange, vox ac30, and a blackstar ht40. It is noisy but it can be manageable. My guitar is not shielded either. If you have a good noise gate or a shielded guitar you should be fine. Overall great tone.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SJM-3 Quarter-Pound Jazzmaster Pickup:

Love my Jazzmaster, very funky neck pickup. But I always found the bridge pickup too thin for use. The Quarter Pounder has a more P90 tone and volume, makes the Jazz a lot more versatile.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SJM-3 Quarter-Pound Jazzmaster Pickup:

I have been playing humbucker-equipped electric guitars since 1982, with the occasional Strat thrown in. My main guitar is a Gibson 335 with standard pickups, and it's a sweet guitar. Even so, I found myself wishing for a guitar that had a less mid-rangey souond, but not one with a harsh top end. I found a used SH550 online for a friendly price, and was interested to see that the original Carvin humbuckers had been replaced with these Seymour Duncan Jazzmasters. A little bit of playing time confirmed that this was s guitar for me: chimey, sweet on top, with available aggression when I wanted it.

I had taken part in an evaluation of this model guitar with its factory humbuckers, and in the review I wrote that they did not love all my amps equally: some sounded bad, a couple sounded great, and, when a friend of mine and I passed the guitar back and forth we found ourselves changing the amp knobs on every song.

I plugged the JM-equipped guitar into my Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight amp, and immediately found a wide range of useable sounds with only the pickup selector and the tone knob.It could sing and it could shriek: just move the switch and the knob and vary your right hand position.

I don't know which songs will call for this one, yet, but I'll bet there will a lot of them.
