Comments about Shadow Quick Mount Classical Guitar Pickup w/Volume Control and 12 FT Cable:
The Shadow SH1900 pickup was purchased to replace a Shadow pickup which has been installed in a Yamaha G-240 Classical Guitar since 1984. The original Shadow pickup performance had deteriorated and therefore required replacement; there is no model identification on it only Shadow W Germany on the unit. This older pickup was very well constructed with a strong metal case that holds the individual string pickup elements.
Since the SH1900 was manufactured by Shadow I expected the quality, performance & physical dimensions to be the same or similar to the older unit.
Unfortunately this is not the case. The SH1900 is made with a metal support on the bottom but the rest of the pickup is plastic and not well constructed. When purchased the supplier indicated this product might not be returnable. The end of the unit where the cable plugs in is not sturdy and can probably be easily damaged in time from plugging the cable in and out.The pickup had to be shimmed upward to get the action back to the original setup and the unit had to be shimmed in the front to keep the upper part of the unit from leaning forward and to secure it. Even with front shims the top section of the unit which is not rigid still leans forward some when the Guitar is tuned up.The top section that contacts the strings is apparently a soft material and is already marked by wound string contact. In addition the unplugged instrument acoustics are effected and the string volume balance is not good.In conclusion IMHO the SH1900 is over priced and very poor quality, especially when compared to the older original Shadow pickup.
