The Shredneck Practice Guitar Neck features a rosewood fingerboard, inlays, strap knobs, side dots on both sides, Shredneck tuner tips, and a gig bag.

The Shredneck is a small, portable practice tool for guitarists that provides the feel of a guitar, strings and frets. The headstock doubles as the body to provide a balanced feel.

Allows guitar players to warm up anytime a guitar is not convenient-in a car, train, plane, at the office, before gigs, between sets, watching TV or in anticipation of playing guitar. Use the Shredneck to work on scales, patterns and techniques, practice chord fingerings and movements along with building and maintaining calluses. The practice neck is modeled after the first seven frets of a standard electric guitar and is useful for acoustic guitar players.

While the Shredneck is strung for right-handed guitarists, it can be easily converted for left-handed players.

FEATURES
  • Rosewood fingerboard
  • Inlays
  • Strap knobs
  • Side dots on both sides

Once you can get through your head, and to the heads of those around you, that this is not an instrument and not meant to be one you will find it's a great practice tool.

In a perfect world we wouldn't need something like this and would just play a guitar instead. But traveling with something that large is just a pain with restriction on number of bags and size of bags allowed on a plane these days. In the few months I have had the shreadneck it has gone most everywhere with me. I leave it in my go bag (back pack) and can pull it out whenever I have some down time (bus stop, lunch break, waiting for code to compile while sitting at my desk, etc).

The tuners do there job but you have to think of them as tensioning pegs less so than tuners as you will not be creating a true note while playing. You are just trying to find the same or similar action to what you normally play. It can be played with both hands but to effectively do so you do need a strap to give your hands the freedom to move around. This isn't a big deal but you do look a little strange doing so and have to explain that it's not really an instrument that you are in fact holding it correctly; you essentially hold it backwards and place you picking hand on the headstock end. I would like to thank shreadneck for the inclusion of the little tuning caps they include to keep you from getting your hands cut up but the strings wrapped around the tuning pegs. These are a very nice addition.

Mine came with a broken zipper on the Gig Bag and given the hassle of paying to ship it back the warehouse and pay again for a new one to be sent to me I just decided to suck it up and deal with it. Thanks for the service there musiciansfriend.com!!!

Another comment mentioned fret spacing compared to an EPI LP and I can tell you its close but not the same. The Shreadneck does have wider spacing than my Epi LP Studio. I emailed shreadneck to ask them what spacing they use and was informed its the same across all models and they use a
"general spacing pattern" (there words and note mine) to accomodate all playing styles. See picture for side by side of BLS Shreadneck to a LP Studio

All in all, I can recommend this as a good practice tool to keep your hands moving and calluses growing.

I recently buyed this SHREDNECK, and i'ts really a piece of crap, it doesn't sounds neither stays in tune because it's shorter scale makes him imposible to play or to tune. My biggest dissapointment was that is horrible for picking, I was hoping only it could be fine for picking exercise but it sucks! For legato is pretty good and comfortable, if you have some years playing guitar, it can be handy, but not for practice replacement, it's only for situations that it's IMPOSSIBLE to have a guitar, like a bus, or a subway, in a car, but for traveling I definetly recommend the Lapstick, or get your guitar. Please, try it before spending money on this, cause it's not what you think.

Shredneck - Effective practice tool

By LPWoman

Comments about Shredneck Practice Guitar Neck:

It's great for what it is - a practice tool. Yes, playing your guitar would be preferred, but that's not always an option. This has gone all over and been a solid practice aid as well as a toy for my son. I have noticed good transferability to my actual guitar, especially as a way to keep what little skills I have when pulling out the guitar just isn't possible. I find it works better when focusing on one hand or the other. I'll work on chords, scales, etc then work on picking separately. You can use both hands together, but I prefer focusing on one or the other. Worth the money. I would buy another if the kids manage to destroy this one.
Wood, tuners, frets, etc. are fine for what it is. The covers over the tuner pegs are a nice addition to keep from poking yourself and to keep them from snagging on stuff when it's shoved into a bag. I have the BLS model. No it doesn't get or stay in tune, but it's not meant to. Fret size "feels" right compared to my Epi LP.
No problems. Frets are smooth. Tuners do their job (adjust string tension). Gig bag bit the dust, but it lasted several years before that happened. Has held up to travel and a small child. It's been stomped on, jumped on, etc. by a 2-year-old with no problems. Added bonus - the little guy "plays" this so I can get him to leave the big guitars alone when I'm practicing.
Travel guitars are still pretty big and much more expensive. This gives me something I can take anywhere - gets thrown in purse, briefcase, whatever so I can work on chord changes, scales, picking whenever I want.

Shredneck works

By Mattlanta

from Atlanta

Comments about Shredneck Practice Guitar Neck:

I've had a shredneck for over a year now and have found it to be an extremely useful warm up tool. I took me a few days to get over the fact that I couldn't tune it, but its not about tuning, its about tension. The shredneck helps me keep my fingers limber. Period. Lots of people say that its small and that you should just play your guitar instead. Go ahead, I'm sure the people next to you on the plane will appreciate your flying V. Or, when in the car, roll the window down so your guitar neck sticks out of the car. SHREDNECK is for when you can't use your guitar. At work, on a plane, stuck in traffic or whatever. Its to keep your fingers limber. Its not a ukulele. It is a tool for warming up your fingers. And a darn good one at that.

Shredneck

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Shredneck Practice Guitar Neck:

I got this for x-mas last year and ive been using it since. it doesnt take the place of a real guitar but is excellent for practising when space and noise is an issue. I use it the most on my lunch breaks at work and while stuck in traffic on the way home. It sucks for chords or practising picking but my finger strengh has increased quite dramatically. Plus it keeps you warmed up all day if you use it throughout so that when I can finally get home to play my guitar im already warmed up and able to shred! Its also great for practicing while sitting around with friends or watching tv with others since there is almost no noise when fingering.

Comments about Shredneck Practice Guitar Neck:

I travel for a living and The Shred Neck is always in my suitcase. It keeps my fingers in amazing condition without having to lug around a whole guitar. I chose the BLS model as I am a huge Zakk Wylde fan. I can used my own string brand so it feels just like my favorite guitar. This changed life of travel anf I highly recommend it to anyone....even if you don't travel for a living. Great to have at the office or before a gig. Thanx Shred Neck!

Comments about Shredneck Practice Guitar Neck:

I have owned the Shredneck for over a year and granted it does warm your fingers up but what they dont mention is that it doesnt make any noise, therefore if you are practicing tapping you cant even hear if you are doing it right or not, you just have to trust that you are. Also you cant play this thing, you can only manuver on it with one hand, making it hard to 'work on your technique' its also boring to practice scales and chords on because, again, it doesnt make noise.the tuning pegs arent for tuning they are for adjusting the string tensionAlso the neck if made from really cheap wood. if it did what it leads you to believe it does then it would be more than great.I vote just play your guitar because i rarely use this thing due to the MAJOR limiations.

This is a great piece of gear for plane or car travel. It is great for practicing scales but isn't designed to be played. I usually just use hammer ons when I use it. I hated it at first but I appreciate it more now.
