I was using a Kyser capo for years right before buying the Shubb. I still have the Kyser capo and I still think it's a good capo.
The Kyser capo works very well. However, some drawbacks to the Keyser capo are that they are bulky and you have to squeeze them pretty hard to get them on. Kyser capos also get grooves in the sleeves if they are left on the guitar neck for even a short time.
I'm looking at my Kyser capo right now and I see that the frame is made of hollow sheet metal and the part of the frame above the spring and pivot that comes to a stop against the side of the neck of the guitar, if you push the capo on too far, has a piece of black tape covering the open sheet metal frame. In other words, this piece of tape is all that protects the neck of the guitar against the sheet metal frame. This is the only part of the Kyser capo that seems rather cheap. However, I have to say that this hasn't caused me any trouble yet. But I have to wonder where I would get another piece of this tape if I needed it.
The Shubb capos don't show any cheapness and are very compact, streamlined and solid. They snap onto the neck of the guitar effortlessly, and the tension adjustment is effortless (I adjusted mine with no effort within seconds of first putting it onto my guitar) and the Shubb seems to hold the strings just right to prevent buzzing. It takes very little tension on the capo to make it work well. The Shubb capos have an overall very high quality look and feel to them. They look like they would last forever.
If there is anything about the Shubb that could be improved, it would probably be that they could be a little wider. I have a Martin HD-28 guitar and I noticed that I was taking up almost the entire width of the Shubb capo when I got up to about the 7th fret and there wasn't a whole lot of width left even on the lower frets. In case anyone's wondering, there are famous musicians who actually do capo up that high. I haven't really had any problems with the width of the Shubb capo, though. I've also seen where it's possible to buy new sleeves for the Shubb capos if you'd want to.
I have to give the Shubb capo 5 stars. I wish everything was built this well.

Bought a Shubb Deluxe Series Steel String Capo because the design looked good. "Looked" is the operative phrase here. Mechanism is great but the adjusting screw used is too short making clamping on thin guitar necks marginal. I wrote company complaining about it and they were aware of the problem but after selling 80,000 capos still hadn't decided to fix it. Also the knob on the screw is too small forcing you to adjust it with tension released. I also pointed out to Mr. Shubb that as the rubber got old this thing would likely no longer clamp on a thin neck and he promised to send me some replacement rubber parts but never did. Now all my emails are unanswered. This is a wonderful design if you are up to remanufacturing it before you use it like I did. I love mine now. All it takes is a slightly longer adjustment screw with a larger knurled knob on it. Just don't expect any help from from the company.

Comments about Shubb Deluxe S Series Steel String Capo:
Great for Acoustic and Electric. Secure hold. Does not effect intonation as bad as many other capos.
Quick changes take a little getting used to. I still prefer it to a spring capo or a roller.

Comments about Shubb Deluxe S Series Steel String Capo:
I've used several different capos over the years, and I can honestly say that there is no better capo on the market than the Shubb deluxe.
The roller-ball design makes it a breeze to put on and take off; no need to have incredibly strong wrists. No time wasted tightening and loosening the screw as with some other screw-set capos, just set it once and you're done! It's the perfect blend between trigger capo designs and screw-set: you get the ease and speed of fitting of a trigger and the relative ease on the wrist and adjustable tension of a screw-set.
The set screw and the unique rubber sleeve work together to mimic how your finger presses the string. You can set it to just the right tension as to get a clean sound but not distort tuning. This is the only capo I've ever used that I've not had to re-tune after fitting.
So long as you take care of it, the thing will last you forever. It's very well-built indeed.
I'll definitely be ordering a couple more as backups. I won't use anything else, and after you try this capo, neither will you.

Comments about Shubb Deluxe S Series Steel String Capo:
I first bought the Dunlop Trigger capo and wasn't really satisfied with it. It's ok, goes on easy and anyone can use it, but it is a little buzzy. Could never get it to go on just right with out a little buzz.
I wasn't sure and almost ordered a different capo. I read a few negative reviews here and I sure am glad I went ahead got the Shubb Deluxe! It's almost 3 times smaller than the Dunlop Trigger and less intrusive. It doesn't get in the way of you're playing even put it right next to the fret. I love it. 100% quality product.
The guys who said they couldn't get theirs to work must be mentally challenged because this thing works right out the box and perfectly at that. Fit my Martin HD28 like a glove.
Very simple design. You don't have to be some kind of genius to figure it out. It's super easy to put on and take off. I will be sticking with the Shubb deluxe. If I lose or break it I'll just buy a new one. I seriously doubt I could even break it, but accidents happen. I would say it's very inexpensive for the quality you get.

Comments about Shubb Deluxe S Series Steel String Capo:
I have used many capos over the years and for me this one beats them all. It is easy to use , micro adjustable, small, refined, not inclined to damage the guitars finish, and on my guitars can even be stored on top of the nut without being in the way. I can find nothing wrong with this capo! Wish I had discovered it earlier. I will purchase another as well as their partial capo.

Comments about Shubb Deluxe S Series Steel String Capo:
This is the best capo I've ever had. This capo is very neat and compact. The tension adjustment works great and is very easy to use. It only took me a few seconds to find the right tension adjustment. The capo snaps onto the guitar very easily. The capo even works very well with very light tension. The construction seems very strong and precision like a fine piece of machinery. I've noticed that the sleeve that holds the strings down doesn't get string grooves in it right away like some other capos do. Overall, I'd have to say that it's pretty much a perfect product.

Comments about Shubb Deluxe S Series Steel String Capo:
This capo can handle any position without throwing the guitar out of tune. It's very stable and easy to adjust, quickly. I keep my strat down tune one full step and use this capo, constantly, with no issues.
I have only two complaints, and they're minor:
1) It really can't be securely clamped on to the headstock, when it's not in use. But I simply store it in my pocket or on an amp, anyway.
2) This model only comes in chrome, and Shubb has indicated in their FAQ section that they have no plans to release it in any other colors. But chrome should look fine on any guitar.
Other than that, this capo is magnificent.

Comments about Shubb Deluxe S Series Steel String Capo:
I recently gave my Kyser to my grandson. I needed to replace it and reviewed as many brands as I could find. I thought this was the best one for me. It's small, adjustable with precision craftsmanship. It's much more than a painted piece of stamped metal and a strong spring. The Kyser always looked like a red cloths pin on my K14C Taylor. It looked out of place. Kind of like wearing tennis shoes with a tuxedo. I keep this one in my pocket until I need it. It's small and not cumbersome like the Kyser. No, it doesn't clip on my head stock. But where else can you put a Kyser? Certainly not in your pocket! Buy it you won't be disappointed.
Comments about Shubb Deluxe S Series Steel String Capo:
It is kind of expensive. This is the second one I've bought, only because I misplaced the other one. I did find it and now I feel like I'm in the lap of capo luxury because I have 2.
I love this Deluxe S Series Steel String capo. I've been playing for over 30 years (YIKES) and have tried the really old kind, the clip on kind, which always seemed to be too loose and this one.
This one is great because you can tighten it as much as you want and therefore always get an "in tune" sound. I love it.
