This steel is lighter and fits my female hand much better than my orignial steel. I'm a very beginner in playing the resonator and my first steel, the Lap Dawg, was heavy and cumbersome. Though I didn't see any reviews intitally that specifically indicated the Shubb GS1 would be suitable for a female hand, I'm very glad I purchased it anyway! I have much better control with this steel. Though other reviews that said it may be too light, I haven't experienced that issue. I love this steel. It's my new best friend!

I own five different slides. This is the best slide I have ever used. It is easy to hold on to. Not to heavy to where it slips out of my hand. I did make one improvement to the bar. The edge on the bar is to sharp or square. I put a small bevel on one side of the bar and polished it. Now it glides across the strings and not get caught when moving from one string to another. I rated it a 9. With the added bevel, mine is now a 10.

Comments about Shubb GS-1 Resophonic Steel Bar Slide:

I chose this (my first bar slide) because of the grooved, wooden grip. Heavy, round, slick chrome bars make me nervous as they could easily slip from my fingers and leave a sizeable divot. This is hard to drop because of the grooved sides. The only thing I would change is to give one end of the bar a "bullet" tip to make it harder to catch on the high strings but hopefully that will fix itself as I get better on lap slide. I play other string instruments but lap slide is easier on my aching hands.

Comments about Shubb GS-1 Resophonic Steel Bar Slide:

I'm a very casual beginner. I picked up the dobro because nerve damage to my left hand, as well as general ineptitude, makes it hard for me to play a conventional guitar. The only dobro bar I could find locally was hard for me to hold. It was a Shubb SP-1, which is very long and heavy, and it was always slipping. This bar is a breeze to hold and control and has solved all of those problems. I'm still working on the ineptitude.

Comments about Shubb GS-1 Resophonic Steel Bar Slide:

I have been trying to learn Dobro and lap steel. I wanted to try a lighter bar than the one I had. I held one of these at a music store and it felt good. Musician's Friend had a good price. I think I will like it fine.

Injuries made me switch from Doghouse to lap style, 4 years ago. I got one of these and have used it ever since but have tried 4 other bars. Like others have said comfort, grip, and feel (wood vs Steel) are great. Don't get the idea of extra weight of others bars, but I'm not a pro, don't play loud or amped, and to each their own. The ergonomic contour makes me wonder why have it any other way? Minor complaint is sides are so slick and angeled it's hard to slant, a couple of pieces of sticky sided velcro fixed that. Gonna have to get another as a spare.
