This steel is lighter and fits my female hand much better than my orignial steel. I'm a very beginner in playing the resonator and my first steel, the Lap Dawg, was heavy and cumbersome. Though I didn't see any reviews intitally that specifically indicated the Shubb GS1 would be suitable for a female hand, I'm very glad I purchased it anyway! I have much better control with this steel. Though other reviews that said it may be too light, I haven't experienced that issue. I love this steel. It's my new best friend!

I own five different slides. This is the best slide I have ever used. It is easy to hold on to. Not to heavy to where it slips out of my hand. I did make one improvement to the bar. The edge on the bar is to sharp or square. I put a small bevel on one side of the bar and polished it. Now it glides across the strings and not get caught when moving from one string to another. I rated it a 9. With the added bevel, mine is now a 10.

Comments about Shubb GS-1 Resophonic Steel Bar Slide:

This was a gift for an experienced musician.
Arthritis made my Dad stop playing guitar. He can't grip the neck for more than a minute or two.
We got him a steel guitar and the Shubb GS1 Resophonic Steel Bar Slide for Christmas. The slide impressed him immediately. The contoured handle fits well in his hand. He played for over an hour right away and only stopped because lunch was served - no hand pain.
He just opened the gift this morning and is quickly translating his guitar skills to the new instrument. I give a lot of credit to the high-quality slide for letting my Dad play music again.

I should be doing other stuff, but I've been playing more with the GS-1. I have a Lap Dog, and the Ergo bar, but I don't use either one. The GS-1 is low priced when compared to other stainless steel slides.

The bar I am use to is longer and has a rounded end so the pull offs are different, practice should help in adapting to this one.

                  Shubb GS-1

                  By Mike Ferris

                  from Chicago

Comments about Shubb GS-1 Resophonic Steel Bar Slide:

I'm a rank beginner on the Dobro, and don't have the "muscle memeory" yet to feel comfortable holding the standard all-steel bar. I found the Shubb GS-1, with its arched hardwood handle, to be very comfortable, and much less likley to slip out of position in my hand. Seems a bit lighter than my Stevens bar, but perhaps that's one reason it stays put better.

One downside to the arched handle might be that it tends to pull the ring and little finger off the strings a bit, making it less natural for the damping effect that those fingers provide. For that reason, I don't intend to completely give up on the solid steel, straight bars, and may return to my Stevens at some future time.

In general, the GS-1 is very well designed product (even down to the packaging: a reclosable plastic unit that didn't require me to use a chain saw to open it). This is my first experience with a Shubb product, but its design and quality will certainly prompt me to look at their Dobro capo.

Great Steel for comfort of playing

Comments about Shubb GS-1 Resophonic Steel Bar Slide:

I have owned the Shubb GS-1 steel for about 4 months now. I started out with and had used a Steven steel slide and found it uncomfortable for gripping and when I found this Shubb ergonomically designed steel with that wooden handle for comfort it thought "Christmas all over again:" It makes pull-offs and hammer-ons so much cleaner and easier. t also allows for quick switching from bass runs back to top strings for slides and down scale runs with ease. My hand doesn't cramp as much as with other slides and it never slips from my sweating hands as I am a new player and nervous with new routines. But it! You'll like it!
