OVERVIEW

The choice of millions of musicians worldwide.

The Shubb Original C-Series 12-String Capo is 2-1/4" and slightly curved to better fit any steel string guitar with a wide fretboard. Choose either nickel-plated or plain brass finish.

The Original C-Series capo features a patented locking action that provides an unrivalled combination of power, speed, accuracy and ease of use. One smooth flip of the lever locks the capo securely in place-and removes it just as quickly.

And the Shubb 12-string capo doesn't create tuning problems. Its soft, resilient rubber is specially designed to work just like a fingertip, so it doesn't bend the strings over the frets. Its closing action is just like your hand, so the Shubb Original C-Series 12-String Guitar Capo doesn't pull your stringa off center. As a result, no re-tuning is necessary.

You'll like this one. First things first though. Putting a capo on a 12 string is always going to be a fidgety process. You have to get the placement just right so the octave low E string doesn't buzz out. The thicker E and A strings go sharp in relation to their octave paired strings so you have to do a bit of fine tuning. But after all that this capo presses all the strings without muting or buzzing. The 6 string version is not wide enough to press all the strings properly, by the way.

The part of the clamp that grabs the bottom of the neck on the Shubb is a bit short. This capo works on my guitar okay but I would have liked the clamp to be 1-2mm longer.

This capo is ideal for someone who plays at home, or mostly plays sitting down. You do have to adjust the tension depending on where it is placed on the neck. One-handed operation is not impossible but I wouldn't bother trying. If you need to be able to change quickly between songs then the Shubb may not be the best option.

Spring type capos are better for playing live because they're much quicker to set up. I've owned the Kyser capo (spring loaded) but I found that either there was too much tension or not enough depending on where you put it on the neck. Also it snapped on me. And the the squeeze clamp was always in the way. The Shubb is very low profile so it doesn't get in the way when your hand is up by the capo.

I've had the stainless 6 string version of the Shubb for years and I've yet to have a problem with it. D'Addario has a spring type capo with fine tuning that I've been meaning to check out but haven't had my hands on it to review.

By the way, the product image is of an older version of the C3 capo. See picture for what you'll receive if you order this item.

First of all, this capo doesn't work at all. And that really isn't surprising. I may have just gotten a bad one. Understand that I have two 6 string Shubb capos that I love and would never part with. That's why I was shocked at this 12 string capo. Now let's take a look at what's wrong with it.

There are two pads on these capos: one pad goes against the back of the neck of the guitar and the other pad (the big pad) goes over the strings. The two pads should line up reasonably well. This one doesn't, to say the very least.

It looks like the arm that holds the neck pad is WAY TOO FAR to the inside of the capo. This looks completely wrong and the capo doesn't work. What happens is that the neck pad digs into the neck and pulls the string pad sideways because of the misalignment.

Again, I want to make it clear that the Shubb 6 string capos are the best capos I ever owned and I even bought a second one. What may have happened is that they might have accidentally put a 6 string part (the arm that holds the pad that goes against the back of the neck of the guitar) on this bad 12 string capo that I bought. Also, my 12 string capo doesn't look like the advertised picture at all. The pads line up fairly well on the advertised picture of this 12 string capo. But you can look at the attached picture of the 12 string capo that I bought and they are not the same at all. I'm going to try to get to the bottom of this somehow. I just did a comparison between the 12 string capo and my 6 string capo and I can see that the arms for the neck pads are identical on the two. The arms should probably be considerably longer on the 12 string capo.

Excellent quality, superb adjustability, won't mess with your tuning and lays some love on your guitar. Works very well on a nylon string classical also! These capos are exceptionally durable.

Comments about Shubb Original C-Series 12-String Guitar Capo:

This product does everything expected of a capo. Unlike the Kyser that I tried, this Shubb held down all 12 strings cleanly - no dull or dampened sounding strings. Easy to use, unobtrusive and aesthetically pleasing. As I've known years, you can't go wrong with a Shubb.

There is no substitute for a shubb capo. The guitar center does' sale them they sale Kayser capos and they're garbage.the guitar center sales junk guitars and junk basses and lame accessories. They butcher guitars on hack job repairs and you need to watch out the tide might come in and wash out all the driftwood hanging in their acoustic guitar room. Musicians friend came through with a product that I couldn't find elsewhere.

I own an older model Ovation 12 string that I keep tuned a whole step down. The Shubb 12-string capo is the only one I have tried so far, that actually works. All strings sound clear and stay in tune. I highly recommend this capo.

I've been playing a 12-string acoustic over 30 years and have tried many diferent types of capos. This capo has performed the best. It is quick to put on which is great in performance situations and it doesn't change the tuning of the guitar. I would definitely buy this capo again.

Comments about Shubb Original C-Series 12-String Guitar Capo:

I've always been a fan of the Shubb Capos and own 3 for my 6 string guitars for all the reasons mentioned (e.g., easy to use, durable, requires no or very little retuning when positioned). I recently bought the 12 string version for my Martin X Series D12X1AE 12-string guitar. Unfortunately, this capo does not work as the top and bottom strings are muffled/muted (i.e., not depressed as cleanly as the middle strings). As others have pointed out, the capo is wider and curved. Unfortunately, the radius on my Martin 12 string fret board is relatively flat and so the curve of this capo does not work for this particular guitar neck shape. Fortunately, my 6 string Shubbs are just wide enough to work on my 12 string and do a great job. I maintain that the Shubb capos are a great product and highly recommend the 6 string capos, but the 12 string version may not work for some 12 string guitar necks - hence my 2 star rating.
