OVERVIEW

The choice of millions of musicians worldwide.

The Shubb Original C-Series 12-String Capo is 2-1/4 in. and slightly curved to better fit any steel string guitar with a wide fretboard. Choose either nickel-plated or plain brass finish.

The Original C-Series capo features a patented locking action that provides an unrivalled combination of power, speed, accuracy and ease of use. One smooth flip of the lever locks the capo securely in place-and removes it just as quickly.

And the Shubb 12-string capo doesn't create tuning problems. Its soft, resilient rubber is specially designed to work just like a fingertip, so it doesn't bend the strings over the frets. Its closing action is just like your hand, so the Shubb Original C-Series 12-String Guitar Capo doesn't pull your strings off-center. As a result, no re-tuning is necessary.

You'll like this one. First things first though. Putting a capo on a 12 string is always going to be a fidgety process. You have to get the placement just right so the octave low E string doesn't buzz out. The thicker E and A strings go sharp in relation to their octave paired strings so you have to do a bit of fine tuning. But after all that this capo presses all the strings without muting or buzzing. The 6 string version is not wide enough to press all the strings properly, by the way.

The part of the clamp that grabs the bottom of the neck on the Shubb is a bit short. This capo works on my guitar okay but I would have liked the clamp to be 1-2mm longer.

This capo is ideal for someone who plays at home, or mostly plays sitting down. You do have to adjust the tension depending on where it is placed on the neck. One-handed operation is not impossible but I wouldn't bother trying. If you need to be able to change quickly between songs then the Shubb may not be the best option.

Spring type capos are better for playing live because they're much quicker to set up. I've owned the Kyser capo (spring loaded) but I found that either there was too much tension or not enough depending on where you put it on the neck. Also it snapped on me. And the the squeeze clamp was always in the way. The Shubb is very low profile so it doesn't get in the way when your hand is up by the capo.

I've had the stainless 6 string version of the Shubb for years and I've yet to have a problem with it. D'Addario has a spring type capo with fine tuning that I've been meaning to check out but haven't had my hands on it to review.

By the way, the product image is of an older version of the C3 capo. See picture for what you'll receive if you order this item.

First of all, this capo doesn't work at all. And that really isn't surprising. I may have just gotten a bad one. Understand that I have two 6 string Shubb capos that I love and would never part with. That's why I was shocked at this 12 string capo. Now let's take a look at what's wrong with it.

There are two pads on these capos: one pad goes against the back of the neck of the guitar and the other pad (the big pad) goes over the strings. The two pads should line up reasonably well. This one doesn't, to say the very least.

It looks like the arm that holds the neck pad is WAY TOO FAR to the inside of the capo. This looks completely wrong and the capo doesn't work. What happens is that the neck pad digs into the neck and pulls the string pad sideways because of the misalignment.

Again, I want to make it clear that the Shubb 6 string capos are the best capos I ever owned and I even bought a second one. What may have happened is that they might have accidentally put a 6 string part (the arm that holds the pad that goes against the back of the neck of the guitar) on this bad 12 string capo that I bought. Also, my 12 string capo doesn't look like the advertised picture at all. The pads line up fairly well on the advertised picture of this 12 string capo. But you can look at the attached picture of the 12 string capo that I bought and they are not the same at all. I'm going to try to get to the bottom of this somehow. I just did a comparison between the 12 string capo and my 6 string capo and I can see that the arms for the neck pads are identical on the two. The arms should probably be considerably longer on the 12 string capo.

The product is advertised as a 12 string capo. I had to return it. The rubber lever is too short to span across all strings. It is more suited for a six string guitar.

        Finally a Capo that works

Comments about Shubb Original C-Series 12-String Guitar Capo:

Ok. So why write a review for a capo. Well it seems I have never found one that works easily and effectively. Some ive had, I could barely figure out how they are supposed to go on and others I had to struggle to get an even application of pressure across all six strings.Well anyway i'm delighted with this one and highly recommend it. It goes on easily, has adjustment doesnt get in the way and looks sturdy and the price is right.

After reading the reviews I decided to purchase tis capo. A heavy and well made capo but it does not hold down the smaller octave strings. I tried a Kyser spring capo and it works perfectly.

Comments about Shubb Original C-Series 12-String Guitar Capo:

This is an excellent capo. My experience has been that finding a good 12 string capo is tough. Either they are too short, too straight, mute strings or all three. This one has none of those issues and is excellent!

The problem with using a capo on a 12 string, is that the octave up base strings mute or "buzz out" due to the extreme size difference between the standard base string, and the much smaller diameter "octave up" base string right next to it.

What Shubb has done here is added a little extra curve to the capo and used just the right type of rubber on the cross bar to fret those small strings correctly. Even the ones right next to a much larger base string. And it works every time with no fussy adjustments needed.

Without question, this is the best 12 string capo I've ever used...or tried to use. It fret's correctly every time. Is easy to move and remove as needed, and is durable. Great capo that produces a great sound. Highly recommended!

Comments about Shubb Original C-Series 12-String Guitar Capo:

This capo is up to the challenge of keeping all twelve strings from buzzing, especially on the first fret; I can adjust as required. I own two of these capos. I purchased a brass one for my Seagull 12-string over 22 years ago, and it is still working like it did when new. I just received my second capo with a nickel finish for my Martin D12-1 from Musician's Friend. I like the thin design, making it relatively inconspicuous while performing with it on stage.

Doesn't press all strings equally. Thicker strings are capoed well, but thinner strings are not and will buzz. If really cranked down so thinner strings are properly capoed, the hicker strings are pressed so far down they are sharp. This design works well on 6 strings, not 12

best piece of equipment an acoustic guitar player would need, the 12 string version literally fits on any guitar, it never knocks your guitar out of tune. plus its better than kyser because it never looses spring tension, its better than elastic capos because it never will lose the elasticity, it is the most simple capo, and is easy on your guitar

I have several of these capos, standard and Esus, and I was very disappointed to discover that while they'd lengthened the front bar to reach over all the strings, they'd not modified the clamping mechanism at all. This leaves the clamp way over to one side of the neck, where it applies side ward rather than down ward force. It won't clamp at all with a reasonable amount of pressure, and even with so much pressure applied that it throws the guitar completely out of tune it still flies off unpredictably while you are playing.

Excellent quality, superb adjustability, won't mess with your tuning and lays some love on your guitar. Works very well on a nylon string classical also! These capos are exceptionally durable.

This product does everything expected of a capo. Unlike the Kyser that I tried, this Shubb held down all 12 strings cleanly - no dull or dampened sounding strings. Easy to use, unobtrusive and aesthetically pleasing. As I've known years, you can't go wrong with a Shubb.

Comments about Shubb Original C-Series 12-String Guitar Capo:

There is no substitute for a shubb capo. The guitar center does' sale them they sale Kayser capos and they're garbage.the guitar center sales junk guitars and junk basses and lame accessories. They butcher guitars on hack job repairs and you need to watch out the tide might come in and wash out all the driftwood hanging in their acoustic guitar room. Musicians friend came through with a product that I couldn't find elsewhere.

I own an older model Ovation 12 string that I keep tuned a whole step down. The Shubb 12-string capo is the only one I have tried so far, that actually works. All strings sound clear and stay in tune. I highly recommend this capo.

I've been playing a 12-string acoustic over 30 years and have tried many diferent types of capos. This capo has performed the best. It is quick to put on which is great in performance situations and it doesn't change the tuning of the guitar. I would definitely buy this capo again.
