I am a gigging professional that has been searching for a great tuner. I have found it. Just wish I would have had this years ago. I love that it stays clipped to my headstock and that I position it behind the headstock so the crowd doesn't even realize it is there. Very discrete. Also MUCH less time spent tuning in between songs which equals very happy fans! No one likes waiting on "that guy" tuning his guitar every song. DON'T BE THAT GUY! The rest of my band is ditching their pricey tuners and getting this!
Has more features than most will ever need. Transpose mode allows easy "capo" tunings on the fly. Chromatic allows you to tune each string to whatever note you choose, therefore allowing "alternate" tunings. Metronome is a VERY nice feature for rehearsal. VERY easy and fast to operate.
Quality is very good. When clipped on the headstock, it doesn't move. And I'm a VERY energetic performer. The accuracy rivals almost every tuner I have used, except some very high end strobe tuners that cost thousands. Currently I own Boss, Digitech, Korg, and several other pedal tuners. Was trying to find "THE tuner" that was accurate enough for my discriminating ear and fast. Even with subs rumbling and guitars blaring, this tuner tracks accurately and allows me to tune mid song if needed with NO issues whatsoever. This tuner has DEFINATELY made tuning easier, faster, and MUCH more accurate.
Literally an amazing value. I would easily have paid double for this and been happy paying it.

If it wasn't for the goofy and inelegant way the Snark handles calibration I would have given this five stars. For those who only tune to 440 Hz this won't be an issue. For those who tune to something other than 440 you may want to consider something else.

For someone like me, who tunes to 432 the Snark is a bit clunky. It recalibrates itself to 440 every time it is turned off and on. It also recalibrates itself to 440 every time the calibration button on the back of it is pressed. Note that when the Snark is powered on it does not display the calibration frequency. When the calibration button on the back is pressed it resets itself to 440 Hz and "440" pops up on the lower right side of the display. In order to recalibrate you have to press the (+) or (-) buttons on the back. As you do the display readout changes to show its current calibration. This is fairly easy to do by feel.

Unfortunately, someone tuning to 432 Hz has to make 10 button presses every time the tuner is turned back on. If someone wanted to tune to 415 Hz it would require 27 button presses every time the tuner was turned on. It would have made a lot more sense to always have the calibration frequency show on the display and to simply have it default to whatever tuning was last used when it is powered up.

Comments about Snark SN-1 Guitar & Bass Tuner:

This tuner is easy to use, highly portable and accurate. That's why Snark has sold millions of these. I don't know a musician that doesn't have one and uses them everyday. The customer service is superlative, bar none. I had a problem with one and the Snark Company responded quickly and completely to my satisfaction. Love these tuners in every way. I've been playing for 45 years, own 13 guitars and 7 tube amps. I care about tune and tone. Believe my recommendation.

After 1 gig with Snark, went back to TuneTech

Comments about Snark SN-1 Guitar & Bass Tuner:

Poor overall rating for the reasons already stated.
Good reviews on this product, and the features, brilliant colors etc. all seemed great. My problem is that is a 3 hour gig last night, ranging from bright sun at 6:00pm to 9:00pm twilight I just could not see it. Particularly in bright sunlight.

Today I did and A/B comparison between this and my old TuneTech TT-1000 in terms of seeing them in bright sunlight AND tuning accuracy. I decided to return the Snark and go back to the TT.

I will say, it is very cool looking and I was excited to use it.
Seems to be well made and solid. Fits very securely on the headstock.
Low value for me since I could not use it effectively in my use case.

Comments about Snark SN-1 Guitar & Bass Tuner:

I bought one of these a couple weeks ago having used a friend of mines to tune my electric bass with and I feel like its the best deal all around as far as a tuner goes and I have used plenty of different tuners. This ones on the money. Dont know much about the Chromatic part other than you can adjust it to whatever tempo you want and seems pretty simple to figure out. I did have a problem with my order though as the tuner was shipped in the same shipping carton as my hardshell guitar case and when it arrived and I opened it there was the tuner box but no tuner inside. I promptly called Musicians Friend customer service and told them and they had me a replacement in the mail that day. Now thats how you conduct business and I wont ever be ordering from anyone else but Musicians Friend for my musical needs just for that reason. Great Job Musicians Friend and rep Patty.

Comments about Snark SN-1 Guitar & Bass Tuner:

              this little tuner is awesome
i have been using another brand clip on tuner for awhile, but i decide to get some more tuners, one for every guitar chase, i decided to get a snark since i hear lots of good things aobut them

fist off this thing is much nicer than it looks in the picture, the way it clips on the guitar is great compared to other tuners i have seen and used, its much easier to fit on any spot on yoru neck compared to other tuners, and the head swivels and moves around so you can position the head at waht ever angle you want.

i chose the blue one and it's a nice matelic blue, i have noe complaint, the metronome is worthless, there is a little heart that blinks on and off yet makes no sound. yep that is all you get for a metronome. i did not buy this for that option so i dont care.

the options for different tunings if you using a capo and wnat not are very nice.
well i am guessing its going to last along time as per teh reviews i have read so i am going to go ahead and give this a good rating for quality, it looks like a nicely made product so i will assume it is.
i have seen these for sale for half the price at a certin place but since i was putting in a order from here i just decided to order it from here,

Tune any guitar in seconds. Tune in a noise filled room. Snark tunes your guitar from the string vibration. Sound or noise have no effect on Snark. Tune with your guitar plugged or unplugged. Batteries (disk type) last forever, practically. I'm on the same battery that came with my Snark 10 months ago.
I'm buying a spare right now. MF currently has Snark for less then ten green backs...Includes shipping! Can't go wrong.
                BUY IT!.....Love it.

This can tune more than just guitars and basses. If you want one tuner for multiple stringed instruments, this is the tuner for you.

Of the 3 tuners I own, this is the best. I use it to tune my Bass, my acoustic dreadnaught (standard and open tunings) and my ukelele. 3 very different instuments (size and body wise) and the tuner works excellent on all 3. The lighted screen allows you to tune in dark places. The adjustable mount allows you to easily view the screen. Easy view for lefties and righties.

The Snark tuners are an easy brand of tuner to use.
However, the SN-1's are not a sturdy tuner. Have had two of these tuner's and the "head" on both of them have broken off.
Not all tuners made by Snark break though, because have bought an SN-8 later on and it works great. Was going to buy another one as a gift for a family member, but for some reason Musician's Friend doesn't carry it. And the SN-8 is the best tuner I've ever owned or used.

Dropped my old on in a fire passing it to a friend, these are not fire proof don't test it. I tried to order it on the web and the shipping to Alaska was through the roof I called and talked to one of the great sales staff members and they made the shipping much better and I got it quicker than I thought I would. It works perfectly when not melted.

At this price, no excuse not to stay in tune. I keep one in the cases of my acoustic 12 and 6 strings. Keep one mounted always on my practice acoustic and my electric. Also use it for bass; as others have mentioned low E isn't the best so I just tune the rest and then tune the E to the other strings.

Comments about Snark SN-1 Guitar & Bass Tuner:

I play a 35" scale 6 string bass guitar with a graphite neck, as well as an old 1981 electric guitar with a wood neck. This thing is acurate from the high E of the electric guitar all the way down to the low B of my bass. It has a very bright display...even playing under the bright lights of the stage, you can easily read this tuner. Just clip it on to your headstock, turn it on, and play the string to engage the tuner (I don't think this "needs" to be said, but the novice might not realize...you don't need your volume up for this tuner to work. It picks up the vibration of your strings to let you know whether that string is tuned up or not). Great price and I don't need to have a tuner plugged up in my signal chain...one less point of failure in the loop...AWESOME!

I find this tuner to be easy and versatile in use. It's useful as a note guide ,I like to play a tune as notes only at first, and the Snark makes it easy to go from the note to a chord by showing me whatever note I happen to be playing anywhere on the neck.
I also like not having to plug into a tuner,I can just clip it on and go.
But it would definitely be a plus if it was made more rugged.

Comments about Snark SN-1 Guitar & Bass Tuner:

The Snark tuner works well, but seems to be very power hungry. The lithium-ion battery supplied did not last very long. Replacements are expensive, so you have to factor that into the overall cost, which makes the Snark less of a bargain than it seems.
