The B2M allows any bass to be used as a MIDI controller.

With the Sonuus B2M, any electric bass guitar can be used as a solo MIDI controller. The Peterson MIDI converter is simple to use and highly effective. It's "universal" because it doesn't need a special pickup mounted on your bass guitar, but instead simply connects to your instrument like any other effects pedal or tuner.

The B2M MIDI converter is a true plug-and-play solution for monophonic MIDI bass guitar, designed to give accurate triggering with very low latency. It can be used to sequence bass lines and add an edge to your live performances.

The MIDI converter features robust note detection to minimize wrong notes; a fast, accurate, MIDI pitch-bend or chromatic mode; and a built-in tuner for standard bass guitar tuning (4-7 strings). Its long battery life, compact size, lightweight, and portability make the B2M MIDI converter low maintenance and convenient. Open up the creative possibilities of your bass guitar.

Comments about Sonuus B2M Universal Bass-to-MIDI Converter:

It really does what it says on the box, but it does require learning how what you play translates into your system of choice.

It's simple to set up and get working with. No outrageously confusing directions to worry about.

I use it to play bass parts into song sessions so I can have the option of bolstering the bass line with a particular MIDI patch. This is a nice way to handle the process as opposed to entering everything by mouse. If nothing else, you get the feel with regard to timing. Note value tracking isn't always spot on depending on the playing technique of the bassist. Sliding will not be translated as a fluid note bend but as a series of descending notes.

I bought it more for the novelty value of "would it work" and while it is very entry-level with no built-in finesse, it does translate the notes to the best of its ability. Good for heavy lifting, so to speak. I would recommend it if someone was looking for just such an item but I would also advise them of the item's limitations. It's a fun toy.

Comments about Sonuus B2M Universal Bass-to-MIDI Converter:

Setup for this product is abiguious, definetly not plug-n-play and definetly not for the faint at heart.

Product support from the vendor's website? Finding support for a user's group? Nowhere to be found. I still cannot get this product to control my midi devices accurately.

I tried using this product with GarageBand, Abelton, GuitarPro 6; MIDI keyboards, etc. Soooo disappointed.

Don't do it, wait for better products to enter the market that enable bass instruments to control (trigger) MIDI devices.

      A word to the wise.

More of a toy than an instrument.

      By Gregg Gambone

Comments about Sonuus B2M Universal Bass-to-MIDI Converter:

It's a great idea - but it's not ready for prime time. The B2M tracked poorly on my Ibanez and Steingerger basses. It has a noticeable delay that you can get used to - but it frequently generates MIDI information that doesn't reflect the notes you'r playing. It's like you have your kid brother in the same room trying to match you note for note - but missing 20% of what you're playing. The B2M is not something you could reliably use on stage. When they come out with a "bugs-free" unit, I'll buy it - but until then, I won't recommend it to anyone.

B2M Good for studio, not for live

      By Joey Guitar

      from Boston

Comments about Sonuus B2M Universal Bass-to-MIDI Converter:

Essentially the B2M does most of what Sonuus advertises it does - convert a monophonic pitch to MIDI, but not without some quirks. When playing notes on my bass, I noticed that it frequently generates a note in the wrong octave, and might also generate two quick notes in succession despite that only one note is played cleanly on the instrument. For live performance, the octave jumping makes it a beast to control. Also there is the inevitable slight latency between playing a note and the synth sound coming out from a speaker. Since the analog bass sound has no latency, the synth sound comes in slightly afterwards, creating an undesirable delay effect. If one plays ahead of time so that the synth sound is on beat, then the bass sound would become too rushed. So sorry Sonuus, but I have to say I am not putting the B2M on my live gigs pedalboard. In the studio, the B2M is okay as an easy way to convert your instrument or voice to input MIDI data into a sequencer on your computer. When wrong notes come up, you can easily fix the score by simply dragging the wrong notes to the right staff line. The B2M works throughout the whole range of my 5-string bass from low B to 24th fret on the G.I also tried it on my guitar and it works upto the 12th fret of the high E string. I suppose that's the difference with the G2M which must be one octave up. I also noticed that the B2M quirks happen much less frequent on a guitar, so while the B2M is not good for live performance, the G2M might fare much better. For its quite affordable price, I do appreciate that the B2M makes all my instruments easily accessible to MIDI conversion. So even if I do not gig live with it, I would keep it as a tool in my studio.
