This desk surprised me. I scoured the internet for reviews and videos of this desk. I saw the many complaints and decided to take the plunge because it the cheapest big studio desk on the internet and maybe this planet. I'm impressed with the quality and the ease of putting together. I don't have much equipment so the extra rack spaces in the bottom are not used except for the power conditioner i decided to keep far away from my other equipment.

Love this as it works great for editing videos and other work that I do. The only problem is that the rack mounts are definitely not made for holding heavy items, like rack mount PC's, or anything that weighs more than a few pounds as the rack mounts are flimsy and only spot welded to the workstation. On the one I have, one of the spot welds was broken out of the box, but I didn't feel like having to ship the whole unit back because of it. Also MAKE SURE where you put it is where you want to keep it because it does not fit out a normal size door withouth having to dismantle it.

Other than that, it's a great workstation and I use it on a daily basis. In fact, I am getting ready to order another one.

Comments about Studio RTA Producer Station:

I initially bought this desk because of the fact that it has rack rails. I'm both a musician and an IT guy and had a lot of home lab equipment that I wanted to rack mount. When I found this desk, I realized it would be feasible to upgrade my desk instead of buying a rack.

A couple things to note... There are NO rack rails in the back. If you have a rack mountable device that needs rails in the back, then you're out of luck. Also, the screws for the CD holders are pretty much impossible to screw in. I got the bottom screws in but couldn't get the top ones.

The desk is very sturdy, if you assembled it correctly. I can stand on the thing without feeling like it's going to break. 180 lb. I used a monitor arm that clamps to the back of the top shelf so I can extend the monitor forward and lower it so I'm not looking up. That was the only minor thing that was bugging me. I like the fact that there's a small set of rails above the desk. I have a power conditioner, wireless router, rack mountable shelf, and an M-Audio 2626 all mounted there. It's convenient to be able to reach the volume knobs. The wheels are a nice addition, although they don't work well for me since I have it on a carpeted floor... I could move it okay until I filled up the rack with networking gear.

I've also customized the desk a bit by adding rack mountable drawers (which aren't too expensive) and shelves, which hold up some of my non-rack mountable networking gear.

Again, just make sure that whatever you're adding doesn't need to utilize rear rack rails.

This is definitely worth the money. If you search for other similar desks, you're looking to pay in the thousands.

Comments about Studio RTA Producer Station:

I ordered this desk well over a week ago, and it finally shipped (after being told that someone forgot to put it on the truck last Friday). I found this out after calling MF a few days ago to ask why my tracking number wasn't working. The woman I spoke to was rude and incoherent (saying things like, "I don't know when it's going to ship... maybe today, maybe a week from now."). I made no headway at all until I called back and spoke to someone else. That's when I found out that it was mistakenly not put on the truck. Okay, mistakes happen.

Then today, the shipping company (R&L) called and said that they'll be delivering my desk tomorrow on a pallet in the parking lot. Even after begging them and offering to pay extra, they refused to bring it fifteen feet to my first floor outside patio. So now I have to find a way to drag a 150 lb. box/pallet to my front door. I called MF and said that I want to refuse the shipment and just pay for the chair... but if I do that, I have to send the chair back too... even though they sell those chairs separately too! And my chair is already assembled and the box is in the trash, so I guess I'm just screwed. So thanks, Musician's Fiend! Never again!!!!! (misspelling intentional)

You have just lost a long time customer, not that you care! And my stepdad very recently committed suicide in our house, so we had to move and lost almost all of our belongings and furniture. It is a total mess, and my mom has a broken ankle on top of it all. I would have thought that someone there might care or work with us on the delivery a little bit. I never even got a sympathetic or kind word from anyone there. Ridiculous!!!!! Once again, I AM DONE!

Received the desk less than a month ago and am quite pleased. I see a few post about the rack spacing being off and that is true, but a little tweaking here and there fixes that. Still about 6 weeks from completing the studio but the basics are in place. The hard wood floor is going in next week and should be easy from there. I just wish my cats didn't love the desk more than me:)

Comments about Studio RTA Producer Station:

This desk is quite big, it arrives in two very heavy boxes. it is delivered by truck with curbside drop-off. The assembling instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Instruction says one-person assembly. But mid-point through, you have to flip the desk, and you definitely need two people. Many bolts are pre-threaded allen wrench bolts which are easy. But many many were phillips screws that go into the panel.
Overall, the station is roomy and sturdy, and looks professional, has eight rubber caster wheels. We are very happy with it.

Also, considering the price of other Producer Stations out there, this one definitely worth it, in so many ways.

Seems like the mounting holes offset and are slightly over-siz, screws strip out easily. Not sure if it's the supplied screws or the holes. Wish the top section were taller so I could mount more equipment. I've used this now for about 10 years. I really like it, especially for the price.

Though my day job is not music, I have been performing for 30 years and have been recording for around 18 years. I have always wanted a workstation desk like this but have a hard time dropping the normal 1000 to $1500 that these desks usually cost.. I Ordered two of these to house equipment for a computer based Video Recording/editing setup and was very happy with them! Well thought design!

I finally ordered one for my project studio and it arrived yesterday. Just a warning, this item does not ship by traditional UPS or Fed ex.. It ships by Freight and it may complicate your deliver a little bit..

When I got, I went right at putting it together and I did it just fine by myself.. It took me a 2 hours to assemble and hook my computer back up as well as put on other equipment (Midi Keyboard, Presonus Mixer and Studio Monitors).. I am pleased to say that the top shelf holds a 23 inch monitor, a 20 inch monitor and two Behringer 8" truth powered studio monitors (Granted, the truth monitors hang off the side about 1 inch but they seem to be just fine.).

The Rack spaces are fantastic. The wire tray on the back panel is awesome!

Overall, if you want inexpensive Functionality (that actually looks pretty nice), then I think this would be fine. It is particle board Sauder furniture and certainly, it probably wouldn't hold up to lots of moving without disassembly but I think overall, it is well worth the money!

With a few mods this thing can be made to hold a ton of gear and still be dragged around on thick carpet. First off the wood screws that hold the casters on are a joke. No wonder people say the "wheels break." The casters are fine, asking some half inch wood screws to hold them in particle board is not. I drilled holes clear through the bottom panel and ran 1/4 - 20 bolts with nuts through the casters and the bottom panel. You won't see them after filling the racks full of gear.

The "CD holders" serve no purpose except to aid in lateral stability. Without them don't try to push or pull the desk around by the top deck. Without any gear in the top rack it will surely collapse, and I didn't trust it with 4 displays even with some stuff in the rack. I mounted two 6 inch wide 3/4 inch thick pine boards to all three decks on the back with about 18 inches sticking out the top. I then covered this with some laminate flooring for looks, and mounted some TV / monitor wall mounts to the new "back panel." This adds some serious lateral stability to the whole thing. I have actually stood on top of it all. After these mods I had 4 computer monitors, all suspended by the wall mounts about 4 inches above the top deck. This let the MIDI keyboard sit on the top deck.I could fold them all in for moving. As with most setups, things keep changing. The picture shows two 27 inch monitors and a 40 inch TV. Since then the TV has been upgraded to a 43 inch 4K, the Push 1 is now a push 2 and sits on the top deck next to a Trigger Finger Pro. The MIDI keyboards are now on a table off to the right side, and a modular synth is starting to be built on the left side........so Musicians Friend, where is the rolling cart shown on page 79 in the catalog you just sent me? With an added back panel it would be an awesome place to build a modular synth.
