Problem update.

By Sophietska

Comments about Tama HT530C Wide Rider Drum Throne with Cloth Top:

As an update to my previous post about a wobble problem. I dismantled the stool and found that the problem was actually the plastic bush on the end of the screw shaft inside the body of the stool. Although this bush is designed to hold the shaft steadily in place, I found that there was actually play between the screw/washer and the bush itself. This was because the washer used in assembly had a hold diameter smaller than the diameter of the shoulder of the shaft, meaning that even fully tightened, the washer had no effect on the bush. All I did was went to a hardware store and bought a washer with a slightly wider diameter hole, that fit around the shoulder of the shaft and pressed down on the bush. I put it back together, and hey presto, problem solved. I finally have my wobble free drum stool.

I still think this is a pretty poor performance by Tama. For the lack of a correctly sized washer, a stool that is advertised as being rock steady fails in its primary claim. It's also irritating that this 'device' made it through assembly and checking without this problem ever being found. So who knows? Is it just my stool, or many other stools? The upside is that now I love this thing, it's fantastic. The downside is that it basically took me doing Tama's job for them to make if fulfil its design potential. I can't really recommend it for this reason. Not so much the product, but Tama's failure to prevent a very simple and easily fixed problem.

Very disappointing

Comments about Tama HT530C Wide Rider Drum Throne with Cloth Top:

I got this throne as an (early) Christmas present. My partner even went to all the trouble to have a friend bring it from Singapore for me. I specifically wanted this throne because Tama makes a big deal about it being solid and not wobbling. Unfortunately, from the first moment I sat on it, it wobbled enough that it was visibly noticeable. The wobble occurs at the plastic bushing around the T-bolt on the main shaft. Also, the legs are not firmly held in place; allowing lateral movement. Finally, there is noticeable movement of the vinyl where the nails enter the seat base, when moving around on the stool.

I have always been a very loyal Tama fan. My drums are Tama Starclassic, and I've had them for 16 years. They've always been fantastic and I have no intention of changing them. This throne however, was a real disappointment, and I can't help but feel that Tama has really let themselves down. I wouldn't recommend this throne to anyone.

Comments about Tama HT530C Wide Rider Drum Throne with Cloth Top:

ok so i have the one of these thats all leather...i got it over 5 years ago and it has fire sticked into the back of it with a black and white bat that says tama... it might be a special version, i dunno... in other tama seat reviews people keep complaining about the bolts breaking and it wobbling.. well i've had this one for a long time and it's supposed to be stiff but you can make it turn easily... i've never turned sideways mid song tho so for me this seat is perfect... but i can understand that the plastic holding the center bar can easily be worn out to nothing and it took me alotta tightening to make it stop wobbling... you really need to use a ratchet and tighten the bottom part hard which was my mistake that i didn't think i had to put force into that small part...i think if you constantly swivel or take the seat apart it will die fast...but for me i don't take it apart even when going to shows...i imagine it will last me another 5 years ... i have noticed the plasict washer wearing down and if that goes the metal on metal parts won't hold solid and it will tilt and wobble..no wear on the leather either...i can't complain but i can imagine theres more durable construction out there... it's just i dunno if theres a better seat... this seat is firm but i like that so i don't wobble...hope this helps

Good, but...

Comments about Tama HT530C Wide Rider Drum Throne with Cloth Top:

I bought one of these and liked it so much I bought a second to use for my second band and to take to gigs. Unfortunately, despite being the exact same model, the seat material was different on the second throne. The first one was sort of like a plush toy, very dense and soft. The second was more denim-like, seemed of a lesser quality, and the seat overall was more rigid. Also, after using the second throne for about a year of moderate gigging, the nails holding the covering on the seat are starting to come out. It's an awesome throne as far as comfort while playing, and I'm only 150 pounds so I'm not a "wide rider", but the inconsistency between the thrones and general build quality for the price are disappointing.

Comments about Tama HT530C Wide Rider Drum Throne with Cloth Top:

This is a comfortable and solid throne, far more comfortable than your average cookie cutter round throne. Quite heavy for gig set-ups but worth the bother.
