This review is coming from a fan of Tama for some 20+ years and an owner of an Iron Cobra for 10+ years. Tama has made and continues to make fantastic drums and insanely tough hardware. I never broke anything on any of my Tama equipment. I've owned my Speed Cobra since April 2013 and the pedal never left the house. In fact, I never even changed the factory settings on anything except the beater height, as they played great right out of the box. I practice progressive speed punk/metal about an hour a day on my 2Box kit. The spring broke from the master pedal in the middle of my regular practice. Really disappointed given Tama's reputation, the other reviews I've read reporting broken springs, and especially as I don't have a spare spring handy. Luckily I didn't liquidate my Iron Cobras which have never failed me, so they're back on the kit. And to top it off, I couldn't even find the HP910-7S on MusiciansFriend.com. Poop! OK, I'm done whining. Good pedals though, and definitely an upgrade from my Iron Cobras, but buyer beware! \m/

I bought a Double Speed Cobra after trying one out in a shop that was set up on a Roland V-Drums kit. The feel and balance was extremely smooth and the quality of construction seemed to be very high. It impressed me enough to go ahead and purchase one. The problem I had with it was not evident until I got them back home and started using them on my acoustic drum kit. The design of the Double Speed Cobra is such that it has the beaters striking the head unevenly centered on the drum. The main beater hits the drum in the center and the slave hits the head off to the left. The result is a different tone and feel from each beater. It's certsinly not what I would have expected from a high end double pedal. I feel like it's a design that should have been different and could have been easily made so that the attack and feel would be the same. I sold the Speed Cobra and went back to my Pearl Double Eliminator which I am still happy with. After all these years the Eliminator is still a very nice pedal, especially for the money, when most of the high end pedals are now going for $400-$600.

Iron speed cobra, smooth as a babys bottom

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

These pedals are a great upgrade from any pedal especially Axis. personally axis are a great pedal but they lack a good balance of feel vs speed. They are built extremly well and will leave you wanting to more and more and more everytime you sit down to play.
These pedals are extremly powerful and dynamic, great for pounding hiphop beats to blazing deathmetal double bass. Everything on the pedal works great. you really have to play them to believe it. they play buttery smooth, like if you were to crisco your feet and run down a bowling alley.
101% superb quality these things are built like tanks. im a heavy bass hitter. and im not saying that to look like a " i beat the crap out of my set" kind of guy. heavy hits get full bass drum tone.
We all know great pedals are expensive and if you think 400+ for pedals isnt expensive then mommy and daddy bought them for you. i paid for the pedals because they are top shelf quality. like good whiskey.

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

The other reviews have pretty much covered everything, I just want to point out that to me the speed cobra slave pedal feels just like the master pedal. I feel no lag whatsoever, and no difference in the way the two pedals feel. This aspect alone would have been reason enough for me to buy these.

That area has always been my biggest complaint about twin pedals, and it's always held me back. I noticed after just a few hours with the SC my playing is not only faster than ever but really clean.

After struggling with heel toe with other double pedals, in just a few days I've nailed it with the cobras, now it's just a matter of building speed and endurance.

I'm still experimenting with settings but right now the everything is back to default settings and springs are about 90% max. Kick drum is a KD120 Vdrum with a falam slam patch.

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

These pedals are absolutely indestructible no matter how fast or hard you want to push them. I originally bought them because I have a very large foot and regular pedals don't have a long enough footboard to cater for my needs, but that's just the start of what I've gotten out of this pedal. Despite most people's description of 'cloud like' and 'light', the pedals have some serious heft to them and you really do have to push hard for those 32nd note rolls. Its an extraordinary help when exercising your legs and building speed. Double strokes are also incredibly easy with the size of the footboard. I've never played at a gig without them since I got them, and the price is more than worth it.

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I have tendinitis so I got these to ease up my ankle use, they are just perfect. And, I picked these over the demon drives. These, in my opinion are way better price wise and feature wise.
Starting off, these pedals are built so well and durable like nothing I've ever tried. I love all of the many adjustments you can make, too. From adjusting the foot board to spring tension, it just made me feel like I was stepping on a cloud. I love the dual chain drive also. It seems like it gives it less slack and more tiightness for smoother double bass action.
The quality of these..... Unbelievable! Thats really all I can say.
For the value, these pedal are completely worth it and should actually be more than they already are.

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I recently sold my Iron Cobras because they were old and outdated. I went to my local store to find some new ones. I was almost positive I was going to get these pedals. Well I played around on the DW 9000, Demon Drives, DW 5000, etc. THEY ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO THIS PEDAL!!! It is so fast and so smooth. I made the guy working take them out and I must of played with them on a electronic kit for 2 or 3 hours lol. They are so good, don't waste your money on any other pedal. Go with the Speed Cobra, you'll never regret it.

Best on the market, and probably will be for awhile

        By Bradley Van Dyke

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

This pedal is pretty freakin fantastic if i say so myself. I got it about a week ago and it has really lived up to the repuation. But be warned, the beaters pack one heck of a punch. Even the flat side still sounds like you're firing a cannon, so if you're looking for something with a little more warmth you'd probably want to get some soft felt beaters. Never the less, it was worth every penny. I'd definately recommend it

        Best Pedal in the Market

        By Rene Quiñones

        from Puerto Rico

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I've always been a fan of Tama hardware. Never got to own a nice pedal but I've played on almost all types of Iron Cobras and love them for their versatility. Saved up money to buy one of the Speed Cobra pedals when i herd they were coming out. I was amazed by the price that they had making them way cheaper then their competitors. This pedal is a big improvement from the Iron Cobras making the board longer and lighter to give you that speed you want to achieve and also a great pedal for drummers who use Heel-toe technique. Over all its the pedal to get and would recomend this to all types of drummers.

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

This pedal is built solid, but in my opinion it could've been design better.
Springs, cams, bearings, hinges have the same great feel of a cobra. Longer recessed footboard takes a little getting used to if you're not used to a longboard, but it gives more power and aids when you pull your feet back to play really fast 16ths.
The beaters have a strange balance/feel that I'm not used to from my old cobra, but they do pack a good punch!
My only real complaint is that you aren't able to make the beaters centered to the head if it is naturally clamped to the kick. When normally clamped, the right beater is centered, but the left is off to the left. If you play alot of double kick this puts a damper on speed and consistency, because you're getting less rebound off the head with the left than the right beater.
I've been a huge Tama fan for 11 years now, but this was kind of a disappointment. I had to modify the clamp so the beaters were centered to the head. I shouldn't have to do that to a "Pro-grade" piece of gear.
