OVERVIEW

Lightning fast, total adjustability, and serious power.

The Tama Speed Cobra Single Bass Drum Pedal has numerous features that make it one of the smoothest, natural feeling pedals available. Its Projector Beater is designed for the best sound projection and resonance. It features a convex head that focuses the power of the beater to a smaller surface area of the bass drum. A punchy attack is the result. For larger contact with the bass drum and a bigger sound, the beater head can be easily rotated. The Super Spring requires less momentum at the beginning. When it rebounds, you feel how quick its response truly is. By adjusting the Cobra Coil underneath the footboard, an even smoother feel can be achieved. This pedal' Fastball Bearing system provides accurate revolving movement with remarkable durability. Modeled after ABS systems in cars and PC hard drives, this system is exceptionally accurate and reliable. Finally, the Tama Speed Cobra Single Bass Drum Pedal features the LiteSprocket whose round shape gives it a natural feel. It is comparable to Iron Cobra' sprocket except it weighs in at 40% less.

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Single Bass Drum Pedal:

Playing drums for over 35 years, I have used just about every peice of drumming equipment known to man. Before this pedal I was a huge fan of the Trick Pro V and still am for certain playing conditions. (See my review of this pedal on this site) The Trick compresses the spring instead of stretching it which makes for a much more responsive feel for heel up players. The Speed Cobra is without a doubt one of the smoothest and controllable pedals I've ever used. I went to my local GC here in Nashville and they let me take home both the Pearl Demon and the Speed Cobra. I spent about 3 days using both and make adjustments to fit my taste. Here are my conclusions. Many folks disagree about writing a review so quickly, but in my experience a new peice of equipment either feels right after a couple of days or it doesn't.

1) The Demon Drive is possibly the fastest single pedal on the market however it lacks control and pedal feel is somewhat exaggerated. Great pedal if you want to rip off 16th notes at 100 bpm. The pedal has a magnitude of adjustments, but no matter how much I tweaked it it still didn't respond like the Trick or the Speed Cobra.

2) The Speed Cobra on the other hand played much like the Trick and very similar to a DW9000, although the DW9000 is way overpriced and still lacks the control of the Speed Cobra. I would compare the Speed Cobra to the older Ludwig Speed Kings but requiring less effort for control and a touch more speed. The constuction of the pedal is very good and time will time how well it holds up using it 16 + hrs a week.

Over the years I have tried just about every pedal to hit the market. I currently own a Yamaha Flying Dragon double( a very under-rated pedal!), DW9000, Axis AAX-X, Trick Pro 1-V and now a Tama Speed Cobra. I took the Demon Drive back.. Of these 5 pedals, I would have to say the Speed Cobra overall is the best playing, most responsive, most controllable and best of all, the CHEAPEST in price. Each of the 5 pedals have their own strong points and work well in different situations, but for someone who doesn't have a 1K to spend on kick pedals, I would highly recommend the Speed Cobra. I'm not knocking the Denom Drive, and I'm sure for some players it would be their Holy Grail, but at 300+ dollars it's price point doesn't meet it's performance IMHO unless you want to break Tim Waterson's world speed record with one pedal.
This pedal has all the features and adjustments any normal drummer could possibly want.
Built to last as with most Tama products.
This pedal seems priced low for the quality and design engineering behind it. Tama has a winner here!

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Single Bass Drum Pedal:

I bought this pedal after my DW5000 broke (base plate snapped completely in half) and I have to say I am very impressed after using it for a couple months. Right out of the box you notice its impressive build quality and cool "sci-fi-esque" look, but that doesn't even do justice to how well this pedal actually plays. After using 5 different pedals over the past 6 years from brands like DW and Pearl, I have to say I've never used a pedal that even compares to this one. It feels like a direct drive but costs much. It has a bunch of easily adjustible parameters, most of which actually lock (unlike every other pedal I've used), smooth motion moving to and from the batter head, and a great long footboard that works very well for heel-toe and toe-toe techniques. Overall I am quite impressed with this product, as I don't give out 5 star ratings very often. The only flaw I find with this pedal is the beater, but that is both personal preference and easily fixed.

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Single Bass Drum Pedal:

I got these pedals(i bought 2 singles for double bass kit) last summer and have had them ever since so i figured why not review them now... well right as u begin playing them they're pretty heavy and sluggish.. it just takes time to get used to and tune to your settings but trust me once you do these pedals are insanely fast and powerful! you can easily do slow and insanely fast beats with ease with these pedals.. The cobra coil is something fun to play around with and change to different parts on the pedal.. i also like how you can use every inch of the pedal like all the way up where the chain is to all the way down where the heel plate is at almost.. and i love that it comes with a handy case.. these pedals are PERFECT for ANYBODY! you guys at tama nailed it! Great pedal and well worth the money!

Nice bass pedal, nothing to complain about except the price

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Single Bass Drum Pedal:

Nice feel, like a Ludwig Speed King, but with more bells and whistles for adjustments.
A lot of adjustments like other pedals.
Solid metal parts, no plastic pieces like some pedals.
A bit expensive but there's manufacturing tooling costs for new equipment and R&D costs to the Tama people.

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Single Bass Drum Pedal:

It really is faster, and gives me more control, than any pedal I've ever used before.
I love how easy it is to adjust. I love the way it attaches to the bass drum.
Seams like it will last forever.
Not the most expensive kick you could buy but not the cheapest either. I cannot imagine spending more on a single pedal.

After 40 years of Slingerlands, Rogers, Speed Kings and for the last 30 Ghost pedals I was ready for something different. This is a very good pedal smoothest I recall playing ever. Faster than me for sure.

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Single Bass Drum Pedal:

So smooth and fast. Right out of the box all I had to do was tighten down the spring and I was finished! The long board really helps with my speed and endurance. I have owned a pair of the older "iron cobra" and I couldn't hold a steady 32nd beat. With these bad boys I can jam for hours and never get half as tired!!! They are so much more sterdy and lighter than "iron cobra". The bearings really are better. I would recommend these to all levels of drummers and metal heads to jazz players. Best pedals hands down!!!!!

Make no mistake. This is an improvement from any pedal no matter what your level of playing. I love the way it makes my drum sound so much fatter and solid. There are awesome foot positions up and down this pedal without interference. I love it.

Best Piece of Gear I've Bought in Years !

    By CBFender

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Single Bass Drum Pedal:

Ok, I'm a pretty sceptical consumer and was beginning to get fairly suspicious of all the hype associated with this pedal. Thought they weren't available here until the new year, so had pretty much written the Speed Cobra off until I found one advance sample at a local store. Even with the factory settings, the Speed Cobra blew away the DW9000 and a couple of the other high end pedals in the store. It's elegant, solidly built and, once you get the settings right for you, almost effortless to play. The longer foot board allows all kinds of foot play (heel up, down etc), and you can easily control the punch and velocity with foot placement. I adjusted to the longer foot board in about 30 seconds, so no issue there, what's interesting are the new things you can do as a result of that feature. Have to admit, I wasn't fond of the factory settings, but managed in about 15 minutes of playing to tune it to the perfect feel. The pedal is so versitile and the potential adjustments so numerous, that you can adapt it to any personal preference or playing style. Others have commented that the new beater is weird. Well, it is. At first I took it off and stuck my Iron Cobra beater on instead, which worked fine, but then I rotated the beater head to get the larger flat surface of the new beater and never went back. It's a clean, punchy articulated sound that fits the music I'm playing now. All in all, this pedal is a great piece of engineering that provides a huge range of flexibility in its adjustability and its potential to offer the player a wide range of expression. Oh, yeah and did I mention this thing is FAST. Highly recommend you give it a try, and don't be put off by the factory settings.
