I own this Guitar & Bass trainer. I owned prior models also both Guitar CD and Bass mp3. It's the absolute best tool for learning songs and playing along with songs. You can slow down songs without changing the pitch and work out difficult riffs and solos. If interfaces well with Windows Media player, you can just plug it into a usb port and sync your favorite playlists over real easy (If you use proprietary Apple/itunes you'll need to manually convert to MP3s and manually copy your songs). You can balance instrument volume vs. song volume. The only small issue is some mp3s with non standard hz rates may not play (that's been very rare for me). Like all Tascam devices there is a learning curve to get familiar with how to use all the features. Once learned Tascam devices are great. This one is the best! There's nothing better then being able to figure out your own songs. Most tabs are just wrong, even from the better sources. I play in 2 rock cover bands and this is my primary tool for learning songs.

I bought this trainer to replace my Tascam CD-BT 1 bass trainer, which I've had since the late 1980s, a great product and the fact it's about 30 years old and was on the road with me for many years. So my review of the GB-10 are based on positive and negative comparisons to that machine.

The pro's:
1. ability to load MP3s and therefore have lots of songs without having to carry CDs.

2. easily selected button pushable features (tuner, loop, etc)

3. If I used this 4 guitar, rather than bass, I would also like the different amp, speaker size, etc

4. recording feature might be nice, but haven't tried it

The Cons:
1. no bass boost feature & difficult to hear the bass line, even with excellent studio headphones. CD-BT1 bass trainer had 2 levels of bass boost and if the bass was buried in the mix, 1 of those would do the trick

2. it is too light weight, and that when it's sitting on a desk with an instrument cable and headphone jack plugged into it, the weight of those cables pulls it off the table. Only 3 ways to prevent that, none of which are very convenient: 1) use very short cables, which means you have to sit pretty still so you won't pull the device off the table just; 2) put it on some kind of slanted table with a lip that stops the trainer from falling off; 3) use a regular sized guitar cable, but then put enough of the cable, and enough of the headphone cable on the table so that you don't pull it off. Doing this creates a messy table that takes up the space for papers to chart songs on or make notes

3) the input jacks for the headphones and guitar/bass are on the same side, which means the device gets pulled to one side. Putting the jacks on opposite sides might help to create some kind of balance

4) there is no case for this device; old one came with a nice case

      Comments about Tascam GB-10 Guitar/Bass Trainer/Recorder:

The guitar player in my band lent me the older version of this unit (it only plays CD's). It works great, but constantly swapping CD's in and out became a pain, so I bought the GB10 because it plays MP3's and has internal storage. Well, to be blunt, it is awful for bass. With all of the effects turned off (playing totally clean), the bass has to be at whisper level, because as soon as you turn up the volume it distorts horribly. I tried 2 of these hoping that the 1st one was defective, but sadly it is a poor design.

        GB-10 room for improvement

        Comments about Tascam GB-10 Guitar/Bass Trainer/Recorder:

        See above remarks
Cuts the speed in half...was hoping it would slow it down even more.
The sound quality at the slower speeds is lacking and Tascam needs to update the software so it can use more of the programming that is available for music today, ie mp4, aac, etc. Just using mp3 and wma limits this device. At least use the same format that itunes uses since it is a popular music program.

If you are if a cover band this is a must have . Cuts song learning time in half. Slow /speed up songs, change pitch in whole sets and in fine tune. has and amp with effects and a tuner. You can raise or lower your volume in conjugation with the song. I've had my unit for about five years and it is still working great. Best gear I have ever bought. Buy it!

        Comments about Tascam GB-10 Guitar/Bass Trainer/Recorder:

Overall I think this is a great device for learning new songs. I had some trouble loading songs to the trainer.
I downloaded a whole cd to the device and only 3 songs were on the trainer. I tried it several times and finally all songs were loaded.
I have not tried recording with this and it was not my reason for buying. I think there is a learning curve on how to use this trainer and it will get easier with time. I was impressed with the quality of sound even when slowing the songs down.
The instructions are basic! You will have to play and practice with this device in order to get acquainted with it.
My main reason for buying this trainer was for learning new songs. I love it for that!
You can isolate a section of song and have it loop over and over again, slow it down, and learn it!
I have read that some people are not happy about not having a backlit display. It would be nice but, not that big of deal.
If you need a device to help you learn songs.....this is it. I gave it 4 stars for the instructions that it came with and the learning curve. It is a very cool learning tool!
Definitely a must for anyone learning to play or helping more experienced players pick up new songs a lot quicker.

It appears this item is no longer available and has been replaced with one that uses a CD instead of a SD Card, but I really like my GB10. It really helps me learn new songs on guitar and I love being able to plug in my guitar and play along with the song (adjusting the speed if needed). Built in tuner is great. Poor customer service from Tascam, I sent an email asking why I couldn't see wavfiles (can see MP3's fine) on the unit even though the files are on the sound card, and I never received a reply.

            Comments about Tascam GB-10 Guitar/Bass Trainer/Recorder:

Had the previous model MP-BT1 (now discontinued) which, despite its imperfections, was better than this. If you're a bass player, skip this product - I ended up returning mine.

Had used the previous one to learn songs, changing to the key we'd be playing them in, listening to them slowed down so I could figure out the bass part, then looping sections to practice. Unfortunately, you can't hear the bass with this one! And now there are apps (like JamUp) that will do the key changing, slowing and looping I need.

So Tascam replaced an ok product with a poor one (for bass players). On top of that, after I ordered it last Fall, it kept being put on back order, so I didn't wind up getting it until three months after I'd ordered it. Good thing I could return it.

This is a very nice tool for practice! Super value or the price. It has a lot of useful features, and the sound is quite impressive.

Its small size makes it very handy to take on the road to let you practice during business trips. I has has multiple power options such as batteries, USB, or an optional power supply.

I only have a few things that I would like to see improved:
            1. The display is very low resolution and has poor contrast. Higher resolution and a backlight would make it much more usable.
            2. The plug for the footswitch is a very non-standard size (2.5mm).
3The factory footswitch and power supply are EXTREMELY overpriced.

The one thing that is most necessary on a bass trainer is the ability to remove (actually reduce) the bass track on the music being practiced. I can't believe that this unit does not do that. Amazing! Without that feature this unit is completely useless to me. All other bass trainers made by Tascam had this feature. Even the old trainer that used CDs rather than digital files cound do this. What were they thinking!
