The world's first solar-rechargeable tuner has arrived—the TC-1S Solar Tuner from TASCAM! The TC-1S charges its battery from a bank of solar cells on the front panel, and a USB input is also available for quick-charging when you're completely in the dark. It's wrapped in a shock-proof silicone cover that's available in multiple colors and keeps the Solar Tuner protected.
The TC-1S has a built-in microphone as well as a 1/4" input for guitar and bass tuning. Its lightning-fast pitch detection is displayed on a wide bar graph display for instant feedback. Four display modes are available, including fine pitch display for 1-cent accuracy and strobe tuning animation. The tuner can be calibrated to an external source such as a piano or other hard-to-tune instrument.
Included with the TC-1S is a nylon strap and clip. Snap it to your guitar or bass gig bag and it will stay charged all the time.

Comments about TASCAM TC-1S Solar Tuner:
The Tascam TC-1S Solar Tuner is a great idea executed very well. This is hopefully the first step in musical gear that is environmentally conscious, high quality and convenient to use. You never have to change the battery in this tuner and the internal battery has a lot of reserves. What I usually do to charge mine is place it on my dashboard the night before so in the morning the sun will shine on the solar cells. By the time I'm ready to use it it is fully charged again.
Solar power coolness aside, this tuner is very accurate and it has a few different tuning options like strobe or fine tuning that really make this a quality product. I have bought tuners in the past that are calibrated a little bit off but this one is spot on and could be used for studio recording. I bought one of these as a Stupid Deal, lost it and immediately bought another one at the regular price.
The only drawbacks are there is no output jack so it is not able to be linked as a tuner on a pedalboard and there is no backlighting to see the display in the dark. Hopefully Tascam will develop a solar powered pedal tuner next.
