In addition to features for guitarists, the TG-7 acts as a desktop metronome. The metronome ranges from 30 to 300 BPM with seven accent values, played through a built-in speaker. The LCD also conducts the beat for visual feedback, and Tap Tempo is available for finding the metronome value of your own music. One item of note: AFAIK, the metronome only does x/4 time signatures (e.g., 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, etc.) and simple straight 8th's or straight 16th's. However, it DOES have a "Shuffle" setting and this proved to be a miracle worker during my last piano lesson.

(Consider: It was proving to be very difficult to explain to a piano student what exactly the standard sheet music marking of "two 8th notes = 1 dotted eighth note + a sixteenth note" means exactly, beyond the simple assertion that this makes it much easier to write and read such tunes. When i pulled out the metronome and set it to beep out a "shuffle beat" and i saw my student's eyes widen with immediate comprehension, i knew that this impulse buy had just paid for itself, so to speak.)

I took off a point or two for it not being the most-intuitive unit out there. Maybe i'm just getting old, but i had to resort to the manual to figure out how to set the metronome.
It has both a tuner AND an audible metronome in one unit, and that was really my sole impulse for buying it.
I wish ALL tuners and/or metronomes came with that standard tripod-accepting screw-hole. This unit also has fold-out braces -- just like a Qwerty keyboard might have -- so that you can stand it upright. The max volume is too quite to hear above a drumset or amplified guitar (without mic'ing the unit and running it through your PA) but who would honestly expect it to be THAT loud, anyway?
I bought this as a Stupid Deal of The Day. I really didn't need yet another tuner, but couldn't resist the deal when I realized I could probably never buy a tuner and metronome both in the same device for even 2x or 3x that cost.

This tuner is not accurate, neither by plugging in an instrument nor by using its built-in microphone.

This is personally tested and verified in several ways.
1. Plugging in a piano/keyboard and test the frequency detection at 438Hz using middle octaves
2. Test the mic using a piano, playing its middle octaves.
3. Using several tuned guitars (both electric and acoustic, essentially tuned stage-ready to gig) and find out that it reads our tuning inaccurately. The guitars are tuned to match using Boss and Korg tuners.

The saving grace of this tuner are as follows:
1. The pitch through the "tone" functionality is accurate. I verified this through a well tuned orchestra-grade grand piano. As such, this is my current way of tuning my stringed instruments (ukuleles & guitars) using this tuner.

I will rave about the tone functionality. It tunes 7 octaves using an electronic pitch. It's a simple single-frequency pitch, and that's enough to get the job done. Still~ 7 octaves!

2. The metronome works. Not like that says much, really.

I acknowledge the Tascam brand's quality. My orchestra friends have some nifty Tascam devices for their recording, and the sound being captured is nothing short of amazing.

However, this product falls short of my expectations as I purchased it.

Comments about TASCAM TG-7 Guitar and Bass Tuner/Metronome:

Great product! It has many features, like the backlight, mic, tuning modes, metronome, etc. that made it very valuable to me. It also has a fine tune feature that allows the user to get an even more accurate reading (great for studio). I like it and bought two of them.

Comments about TASCAM TG-7 Guitar and Bass Tuner/Metronome:

Worthless for tuning acoustec guitars. Will not recognize E 6th string at all. Tuner works OK with electrics. Metronome is very limited. Do not even pay the sale price for this tuner. There are much better out there for the same price.

Total junk, only works on open strings, anything up the neck shows wrong.
Got it on Stupid Deal day and it isn't worth that price.
I have a (cheap) 20 year old tuner that smokes this one.
Gotta see if I kept the box so I can return it.

Comments about TASCAM TG-7 Guitar and Bass Tuner/Metronome:

The Tascam TG-7 Tuner and Metronome is a versatile piece of equipment that is probably best suited for home or studio use. I don't see it as a stage tuner. I guess this would depend on the tuning preferences of the user. The display is small. It's not a heavy duty stomp box, but rather a precision piece of equipment with some interesting options. Namely, the TG-7 has 12 different tuning modes, including open D and G. The options are easily accessible through a series of buttons on the face of the tuner. The learning curve for use is generally low. The metronome function is useful, but suffers from volume problems with the internal speaker. Can't comment yet on battery longevity, other than to say it seems to be reasonable at this point. All in all, the TG-7 is a versatile piece of equipment. It's accurate and a good songwriting companion.

Comments about TASCAM TG-7 Guitar and Bass Tuner/Metronome:

I'm very pleased with the TG-7.

It's small enough to take everywhere, versatile enough to keep you busy exploring all it's options and cheap enough to make this an excellent value

I would like to see an AC adapter connector in future models.

My main sugesstion to TASCAM is to put this in a peddle ASAP!
I have used TASCAM stuff for so long I can't remember when I started. This little beauty well exceeded my expectations. It has so many great features: mulitple diaplay options including a STROBE, multiple alternate tunings including some neat open E and D options I haven't tried before.
