OK, but some weaknesses

By Paul-W6UVM

from Portland, OR

This is very stable on the floor and secure in supporting the instrument. It also looks pleasant in the studio, at least from a distance. There are significant weaknesses, though. It does not break down, so it is a studio-only fixture, unsuitable for gigging or taking to rehearsals. (I had known that, and had thought that acceptable for my intentions.) The joinery is very crude for the price: just a few wood screws with exposed heads, and the finish would flunk in a high school woodshop class. There are plastic bumpers to support the instrument at the bottom and the top of the back, but none on the front lips nor at the bottom of the back supports, so every bump is guitar finish on wood. I added some hardware-store stick-on felt pads at those points, but they don't stick well on the front lips' end grain. Despite my care, there is always the possibility of a bump, and it happens frequently enough that I won't put an expensive instrument into it any more. The stand is deep enough for my classical, ES175 jazz, and 0000-sized flattop guitars, but not for my dreadnaught instrument. All in all, I can't recommend it with much enthusiasm.
