I have been using this superior string set on a Guild Artist Award (with DeArmond PU)for decades.
The compound wound design uses a smaller core & outer wrap wires, so even though they are wound round, they are (for their gage):
1) Easier to bend
2) brighter than flat wounds, warmer than
standard round wounds.
3) Smoother than round wounds not as smooth
as standard flat wounds.
4) Less finger noise than round wounds for recording.
5) Super dynamic range. Played hard with volume low they sound almost acoustic. Played easy with volume up they sound warm & jazzy. Picking close to the neck or bridge and/or using thumb/fingers
produces a wider range of sound than I have found
with other strings.
6) They have very long life. I do wipe them after each use, I would estimate I get up to 200 hours
playing on a set. I have never had one break.
I can't say enough good things about them!

These strings sound great- I have them on my 175. They intonated at the bridge with no problem and have a consistent tone up the neck. HOWEVER! The G string in NOT plain. Even though MF describes it as such, it is not plain. It is wound.Still sound great.

I have played since the early sixties and have always used cheap strings. Thinking that fresh strings would be the best, I changed them a lot. Believe it or not, I now change strings about once every 3-4 months rather than weekly. That means they are less expensive and sound much much better than the fresher cheaper strings. Wipe them off with a dampened paper towel. I use a cheap paper towel (ones with a hard finish) and dampened with a little Murphy's Oil soap and water. I now consider these a necessary part of my guitar setup. I have compared pricing on these strings and this site is the best. I hope Thomastik Infield never changes the quality of this string set.
