Best String I Have Played

Comments about Thomastik JR344 Scale Roundwound 4-String Jazz Bass Strings:

The TI Jazz Rounds are a very unique string. They are my favorite string after 30+ years of playing. They are extra light gauge (.089 E string) with very low tension. Some have described them as "floppy" but I disagree with that assessment. I use them on a Fender Active Jazz Deluxe, '62RI Jazz, G&L L-2000, and Peavey Sarzo. They break-in quickly and last forever (over 2 years on my main bass). They have a warm, "woody" tone ideal for finger-style. This is achieved by a thin insulation around the string core which can give a very convincing acoustic tone on a Fender Jazz neck pickup. They are not a bright sounding string, yet have more definition than flats. Windings are very tight and feel silky smooth. Due to lack of bright highs, I wouldn't recommend them if slapping is your thing, though they can be slapped with adequate results. Think the exact opposite of DR Highbeams for comparison. Though rolled off in the highs, they still retain a rich full tone. This coupled with low tension makes them a joy to play and harmonic nuances can easily be coached from them. The only reason I did not score them perfect is because they lack brightness slappers prefer and they are expensive. Yet when one considers how long they last, they are a terrific value - highly recommended!
