I gave these a try a few years ago and have been hooked ever since. Yes they aren't cheap, and I always thought guitar strings were all pretty much the same. But you really do hear and feel a difference with these. I highly recommend Thomastik. I will always keep these in my aresenal
A friend of mine gave me a pack. I liked the sound of the wound strings but the high three strings sounded too dark. I kept the bottom half on and put D'Adarios for the high strings. this works great for an all mahogony Les Paul.
I put a set of these on my Gretsch Country Club and now the guitar really sounds the way I want. I was using D'Addario 10's before, but they were too bright and brittle sounding. These strings sound a touch mellower and feel slinky, but the bass strings are heavy enough to sound full and fat. I have tried many different types of strings and was using flatwounds for a while, but with these strings I can get a mellower tone, but still get the nice roundwound feel and grit when needed. These strings can be used for jazz, rock or blues with ease! I love them and recommend that you give them a try!
