Worth it for sure.

Features:

It cleans the tops of the strings which any cloth can do, but it gets underneath the strings where the gunk has more of a tendency to build up and get on the fretboard.  Normally that stuff's a pain to get to.

Quality:

It's cheaply made, which is no surprise since it's ten bucks.  Just be careful with it (make sure the cloth doesn't snag on the strings when inserting it, etc.) and it'll last plenty long.

Value:

When I use it every once in a while, the string regain some of their brightness.  I'd say that's an indicator that the strings are going to last longer with this.

Overall:

Overall, I'd really recommend it, especially if you have a tendency to cover your guitar in what looks like alien biofilm like some people I know.

I purchased the string cleaner about a week ago and got it in the mail the other day. I used it on the set of strings that were already on my guitar and immediately noticed a difference. The entire string including underneath where the dirt and grime accumulate the most was whiped clean. Not only were the strings cleaner, but they sounded new again. I am going to use this product for a long time. 5 stars!

I keep one of these in my case and use it just after playing each jam or gig. It has increased the life of the strings more that I would have dreamed, just make sure you use it while the finger oils, etc. are still fresh. Also, keep it fresh by cleaning it per the instructions when you do change strings.

Primarily, I'm a bassist, but I also play guitar.  Before buying any musical instruments or accessories on line, I often check out the product reviews. After doing a little bit of research, I decided to invest in the Tone Gear The String Cleaning Tool, mainly for my guitars. For the price of this product, I didn't expect an item that would revolutionize the world of guitar players. I did get a cheap gadget that seems to do what it is designed to: extend the life of guitar strings by cleaning them. Those who purchase this handy little gadget would do well by reading the review ("The String Cleaner") that was posted by Anonymous Musician and follow the advice. If Fender Bender (who wrote the review "Wasn't Impressed") would wash his or her hands more often (between every set played at gigs) and keep his guitar out of the reach of those with dirty hands, maybe there would not be any need for frequent changes of strings. So far, this item exceeds my expectations and I'm impressed.

I play with guage 10 strings. and as far as myself after about 2 days of playing when i slide my finger under the high e string, it feels like sand. The string cleaner did not remove anyof it. I also tried using it after about 20 min. of playing with new strings, but when i took a cloth i got plenty of dirt. i just was not impressed. so instead of cleaning my strings, i just replace them often.
