Comments about ToneGear The String Cleaner Tool for Bass:

I've been using the guitar model for years (love 'em). I bought one of these for the wrong reasons. I thought it would be heavier duty (although I've never broken a guitar model) and the extra wiper would save more time after gigs. Works great as intended---for BASS. If you can use this as intended for a standard guitar you have more serious issues than gunky strinks. Get thee to a luthier! I understand that the additional wiper on the bass unit tempts one to use it as a fretboard/fret cleaner, but seriously---it's designed for bigger fretboards and BASS guitars. You can actually open up the guitar model, flip it over (or detatch it altogether), and slide the open wiper over the fretboard to polish it and it will fit much better all the way to the nut. If you have decent or better action on your guitar, get the guitar model (even the guitar model gets tight around the first fret). I would recommend it to a friend for bass but not guitar.

Comments about ToneGear The String Cleaner Tool for Bass:

When I saw this product I was a little like what ?
So I purchased a three of them and now I love them. They help make my strings last longer and keep my fret board and strings cleaner. At first this is kind of weird to remember to use and kind of diferent to use but once you get used to it, its a great product. Like the another reviewer says get the bass one and use it on your guitar it is better then the guitar one.

I read the reviews and took another player's advice and got the bass model because it cleans the fretboard and frets on my guitar also.Amazing how much gunk gathers on the underside of strings.Should've gotten one sooner.

      Pretty good, but not flawless

Comments about ToneGear The String Cleaner Tool for Bass:

I took the advice given by reviewers on here and opted for the bass version instead of the guitar version and I'm glad I did. The cleaning surface on the bottom of the bass version does a great job of keeping the fretboard nice and clean and actually polishes up the frets, too. The results are unmistakably noticeable and well worth the price tag.

It took me a little practice to learn to open and close this thing well, but after a few tries, it's pretty easy now.

It does get the strings nice and clean, especially if you move it side-to-side as you slide it up and down the strings.

It can be a bit tricky to get it under your strings if you don't have two humbuckers with a space in the middle. Fitting it under the strings on my Strats is a bit tricky with three single coils and low action. It's not too difficult, though, and it's a minor complaint.

The biggest issue I have with this is the fact that it's too bulky to slide under the strings all the way to the nut. This is especially an issue on my Floyd Rose-equipped guitars with the locking nut locked down. So expect to have to open it and use the bottom cleaning surface on top of the strings and leave the last one or two frets and the end of the fretboard near the nut uncleaned. It's not a major issue, but it would be nice if it worked all the way up to the nut. However, due to the design of the product, it does have certain limitations and they're not a big deal. For the most part, this thing is great and I'm plenty happy with it.

I ran this over the dirty neck and frets on a 12-year old guitar that looked like it had been played daily that whole time and never cleaned. The cleaning surface on the bottom of this thing was black and green, the way I imagine food in a fridge to be if left in there for a year. The neck, however, looked almost like new, frets included. A little water and a drop of soap, just like the instructions say, made this thing look as good as new. It does take a while to dry before you can put it back in a guitar case, though. Again, minor issues.

I give this string cleaner a 9 out of 10. It's well worth the price and about as close to perfect as you can find in this sort of product. It will save you money on fretboard and fret cleaning supplies and will undoubtedly keep your strings shiny and sounding good for as long as possible, if used every time you play. Get one. Your guitar neck will thank you and so will your wallet, in time.

Comments about ToneGear The String Cleaner Tool for Bass:

An improvement to the guitar version of The String Cleaner.

It now has an extra pad to clean the fretboard and also not tarnish or damage your fretboard or frets as you slide the cleaner back and forth while cleaning.

Using the string cleaner is self explanatory: you unclip the tabs and then clip them back once you've aligned the cleaning pads over/under the strings. From there you lift it up as you slide the cleaner from the bridge to the nut, and back. Clean up is easy, all you have to do is unclip the tabs to open the cleaner, rinse the pads in a drop of soap and warm water, rinse with water again, and let it dry overnight.

Fairly simple and easy to use, and handy in prolonging string life, but it's also useful in cleaning the fretboard in the event you don't lift up when using it to clean the strings.

This is the one to use for bass and every Guitar. Unlike the Guitar version this has a pad that wipes the fretboard at the same time. Protects and cleans the fretboard as you wipe the strings. I bought a few to keep them handy to clean the strings and fretboard after use.

            Surprised.

Comments about ToneGear The String Cleaner Tool for Bass:

Again, I was surprised it worked as well as it did.
I had used it on strings from a show in March and they were getting a little dead and this made a noticeable change in the tone.
Not like brand new strings, but it brought them back a bit.

I'd follow thier instructions about using it after each session so sweat doesn't cake on and cleaning the micro fiber pad when you change the strings so you don;t transfer the crud to the new set.

Otherwise I was impressed that it actually made a difference.
Looking forward to rtying it on a brand new set that I can clean after each show/session.
I was surprised it worked as good as it did.
Seems solid enough for what it does.
Prolongs the life of the strings, that's some value.
