Excellent Stand

Comments about Ultimate Support MC-125 Professional Studio Boom Stand:

I'm satisfied with this stand and would recommend it. The base is quite heavy, the casting is clean, and the wheels roll very well. Nice having wheel locks. The tubing is all very beefy, and it will easily support 2 mics (up to 5 lbs., more than enough) fully extended.
Fully adjustable, easy to move and use. I like the boom extension. This feature is not available on most other brands. Wheels are a must and these are better quality than most. Adjustable counterweight works great and is heavier than others as well.
Very well made, but I just don't know why Ultimate cheaped out on the boom clutch. It is plastic, whereas the stand clutch is metal; and it feels as if I might strip the boom clutch if I tighten it as much as I would like. Other than that, it is very solid top to bottom.
Compared to some others it is a good value, but the cost still seems a bit high considering what stands are constructed of, and where these are made (not in USA, of course). Free shipping (if available) certainly makes it a little better value since it does weigh 35 lbs.

Comments about Ultimate Support MC-125 Professional Studio Boom Stand:

THE BEST STAND I HAVE EVER PURCHASED! IF YOU TRULY NEED A REAL PROFESSIONAL STAND AND HAVE A HEAVIER MIC, NEED A SOLID BOOM, OR HAVE ADDITIONAL ACCESSORIES LIKE A POP FILTER, NOISE SHIELD, WITH EXTRA WEIGHT, YOU HAVE TO HAVE THIS STAND. I TRIED THE CHEAP SCISSOR ARM JUNK AND REGULAR STANDS AND THEY JUST DON'T WORK. WORTH EVERY PENNY, ESPECIALLY THE WAY MUSICIANS FRIEND WORKS WITH YOU.

Comments about Ultimate Support MC-125 Professional Studio Boom Stand:

This is one excellent stand, the best I've ever seen. I've got the condenser microphone with a shock mount and pop screen from the "R0de Microphones NT1-A Condenser Mic Bundle" solidly mounted on it (which is also an excellent value) in my home studio. I was previously using dynamic stage microphones, so I'm delighted to finally have a good combination in my studio for recording vocals.

The stand itself is built like a tank, and weighs almost 40 pounds. You could probably jack up a car with it, it's that heavy-duty. Thankfully, it's on skateboard-like casters, which are also of great quality. The casters have foot-operated locking levers, and I'd be a little happier with them if they were metal instead of plastic. I'm a bit concerned that they will break eventually, but the stand is field serviceable, so you can always order new parts if something breaks instead of trashing the whole stand. I've never seen that in a microphone stand before.

Just a few very minor gripes...

- Even though I hand tighten the vertical tube that screws into the base as much as possible, it still comes unscrewed sometimes. I'm hesitant to tighten it using a tool like channel locks, as I don't want to void the warranty or strip the threads. Ultimate Support really needs to add a bottom locking nut there... There's not enough thread sticking out to add one myself. Not really a big deal, as I'm planning on putting Locktite on the threads which I think will resolve the issue.

- The stand comes with a chintzy wrench to tighten the casters to the base. It bent after I tightened two of them, but what can you expect from a one-time use tool. I naturally just used a regular wrench instead. You'll need a very thin one, as the space there is tight.

Bottom line, HIGHLY recommended... Very high quality construction, and the adjustments can be set up in any way you can imagine. It's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for, and this stand is worth every penny.

Extremely happy with this purchase!

Comments about Ultimate Support MC-125 Professional Studio Boom Stand:

This is the best studio boom I've ever had. Very well built and the wheels are the best I've seen on any stand like this. The pipes are strong and thick, this is not like a regular cheapo 1/2 tube stand. It looks to be about an inch of tubing on this thing. It has nice clear urethane wheels. Once you get the stand where you want it, you can lock the wheels. And they clean easily, which is another advantage. I used one of these stands for my heavy vocal mics like a Golden Age R1 Active Tube ribbon mic and I also have two more stands dedicated to the two heavy APEX 420 condensers used for the front-of-the-kit overheads on the drum kit. I've never had a problem. The drop down on the top of the boom can be positioned anywhere, like if you want it to be straight out on the boom. The base is very trendy cool looking. I highly recommend this stand to anybody needing a stand with a long boom and a heavy base.

Comments about Ultimate Support MC-125 Professional Studio Boom Stand:

I recieved the mc-125 yesterday and the box it shipped in was very tall but the package box was very short, am kinda curious about that. anyway on to the best parts of the review i love everything about this stand its very easy to set up and take down and the rollerblade wheels help oput with moving it around my small apt.
I came across a quality controil issue one of the locks on the wheels kept popping up after i set it and i called ultimate and ordered a new wheel for my stand, ultimate was very nice and helpful. I will continue to use thier products when i can.
Now for all you small studios out there...GET ONE!!!! it maybe alot but your clients wiull respect you more for having pro equipment in your studio.

Comments about Ultimate Support MC-125 Professional Studio Boom Stand:

Fairly sturdy stand and so far seems to hold well and is easily adjusted. Compared to other similar products (large studio mic stands), this is a good value. It's very easy to assemble (less than 5 minutes) but the styrofoam packaging gets little bits all over and made a mess (its full of static so even sweeping up is difficult as it sticks to everything). Some kind of greener packaging - maybe a formed cardboard (like an egg carton)might be nicer. But yeah, I know, that doesn't affect how it works. Once assembled its great. So I give it 5 stars anyway.

Great mic stand in terms of heavy weight and sturdiness. Several axes of adjustment, along with large counter weight on the boom. Nice rubberized wheels. My only complaint is that it does not isolate itself from the building's air-conditioning vibration as well as I would like.

Great studio stand to hold a heavy mic. Also has a very long boom arm so it could be used live for chiors and such. The wheels are great for rolling around a drum kit for an overhead capture. Also musicians friend has the best price on it. 25$ cheaper than anyone else, when I bought it. Great stand for the price. If you have an expensive heavy mic, you need this stand.

I never worry about my mic any more. That thing ain't going nowhere! Wonderful build, really sturdy. Previously had a cheap onstage mic stand so i was skeptical about paying the price for the MC 125, but the peace of mind that you get alone is worth it. I don't even take my mic down anymore. I just leave it up and cover it with a crown royal bag (nice tip right there) to prevent dust. And i sleep quite well knowing it won't tip over. Yes it's costly, but trust me..just buy it. Your mic was just as much of an investment. Makes no sense not to protect it.

I am glad I purchased this mic stand. Way better than those cheap stands. Just keep in mind that it's best suited as a boom mic....so drum overheads, things like that. I guess you could hang a mic upside down to get it lower. I used this as a vocal mic stand with the Reflexion Filter on it. It works fine because the mic is connected to the reflexion filter which is adjustable as far as where you want to clamp it.
I love the wheels. I can easily move this around in my home studio.

Comments about Ultimate Support MC-125 Professional Studio Boom Stand:

If you need a great overhead stand that you want your mic's to reach up and out, look no further. Those cheap, flimsy standard stands you'll sell or toss. The base is on fantastic wheels lock, the post and tightening to your heights is perfect...The weight on the arm is very heavy, just make sure you have the height above your head or lower so you don't walk into that. I have three and my others are collecting dust.
