This was exactly the kind of boom I was looking for. The single knob adjustment is what I was after and the the length and telescoping action on these make them very easy to adjust and not take up too much space where you need them. The PROBLEM is that the piece on the end with the threads for the mic clip came loose on 3 of 4 on first use. Now the mic clips just spin on the end of the shaft. I will have to do some work to make them right. It is a simple design or manufacturing flaw that could be easily remedied. other than this issue, I'd give this 5 stars.
This is a great looking boom - And that's where it ends... Super wobbly, no matter how much you tighten the one knob for angle/rotation. (I honestly can't ever see a need for using the rotation feature - why not just adjust the tube on the stand?). The connection point of the boom to the stand is essentially a ball which makes the connection to the stand very weak. Terrible engineering - definitely an item to keep on the "avoid me at an price" list.
I've used Ultimate stands before and always have been pleased. This telescoping boom is NOT up to Ultimate standards. The one-knob-does-all is a great design, and does seem to be tight enough to prevent sagging, but there were 2 things that made this boom arm unacceptable: 1. It broke within 1 hour. Our music leader (female, and not a weightlifter) BROKE the threaded portion of the boom but putting on a mic clip! So now, the adapter just spins on the stand. 2. The boom rod is too thin. Telescoping to full out position results in a significant 'bend' in the stand at the joint. Will return all booms I bought ASAP.
