A very useful, inexpensive piece of equipment... Nicest factor is its small size, & ability to clip on to a mic stand, far more discreet than having a full-blown music stand in front of you. However, as others have stated, it tends to break apart, & one of mine has lost the inner plastic sleeve, in the clip, making it not as easy to clip on securely. Also, where the ball fits in the socket has loosened, thus making the board less rigid in its position. I would certainly pay a little more (even double), for a model that is more "professional-quality", with a heavier duty means of attaching the two pieces. I'm actually a bit surprised, as long as this has been out, they haven't yet improved upon their design...

Great idea; a lightweight music stand that clips onto the performer's mike stand. The design is good, but the manufacturing weakness is in the plastic ball joint assembly. There just isn't enough tension on the ball to hold the tray in place. I wound up cementing mine to make the unit useful. I tried drilling for setscrews, but couldn't find any small enough. Like other reviewers, I'd pay more for such a unit that was of better quality construction and would bear the weight of more than two or three sheets of paper.

Great for a gigging band

By Gregory Hancock

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

In my opinion, a helpful asset.
Great size for song-sheets and cue-sheets. The pic in the ad shows the unit on top of the mic stand but we let 'em hang from the bottom; consequently, we have no difficulty at all with the swivel mounting mechanism.
The unit is made out of plastic and cardboard. I don't expect much by way of durability or precision. Given that, however, I do wish it could be marketed at a lower price.
This unit is a reasonable value only because it is so unique. I've not found anything like it so I'm willing to pay the price - in fact, I'm getting ready to place my third order. The original ones are still in use but the musicians keep asking for more so they can keep more pages at the 'ready.'

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

This little accessory more than pays for itself in convenience.
What can you say? It's a lightweight, inexpensive yet very functional clipboard.
It's about as good as one could expect for an inexpensive item.
I got one of these as a gift about a year ago and it does what it's supposed to do......hold a few sheets of paper in a position where I can see them easily.

My main use is holding set lists. No more taping them on the floor in front of me or trying to tape them to a floor monitor where they may or may not create a rattling noise!

I recently got another 2 (one for a spare and one for one of my bandmates) and as long as they are available I will continue to purchase them as needed.

Clip-on music stand

By Josh Rickett

from Mid-Michigan

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

Two times smaller than the picture. I sent it back when I recieved it because the size isnt practical for more than two pieces of paper. The only thing it would be used for would be a list of songs on a single sheet of paper.

Great for what it is!

By Mark Rabin

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

The other reviews have described the limitations of this design. This is NOT a heavy duty music stand and must be evaluated for what it is designed to do. At this price point, it is a very handy low profile way to hold a few sheets of paper. I have babied my first unit and it's still in operation after a few years, but I have a spare on hand for when the inevitable happens.

I don't know of anything else on the market for this price and it works well for me. As a matter of fact, because of it's limitations, I don't bring pages of lyrics to gigs and I'm forced to learn the tune.

great stand ...but

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

I love this music stand but the ball joint often breaks so I've had 3 of these so far. The price is good - and because I've had to keep buying new ones, it helps that it's cheap - BUT a better ball joint would make it more reliable long term because it IS awesomely useful, discreet size and easier to carry than any other stand.

great for songwriters

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

I love this stand and have had several friends buy them after seeing mine. For those of us out and about doing writers nights and playing new songs it's great.Biggest drawback for me is that the ball joint can break off and there's no repairing it but it can hold several papers (I think I had at a time last week) and the swivel joint helps keep everything visible.

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

Very handy and out of the way when need be.
Not the biggest for real estate (sheet music) but adequate to hold almost anything I clip on. No big clunky music stands needed for me now! Very Handy!
I know it has to be light-weight, but something a little more durable and rigid would be nice. The clip can be a little cumbersome to operate at times ... perhaps a little bigger push-tab.
The pricing is okay.

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

I was hoping to clip my mini iPad to this but it can't hold the weight of a mini. Paper printed lyrics/music are ok but not too many, certainly not sturdy enough for a 4hr standard gig.

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

I'm a singing drummer. With all the drumming hardware already in place, there just isn't room for a standard music stand. I can use this, clamped onto a cymbal stand, to hold notes and lyric sheets.I also purchased a clip on (reading) light to add illumination.

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

nothing else available, I like the concept, so I bought this one. extremely flimsy, use with care. hope it lasts. it is way too expansive for how it's made!!!
you can "hard-tail" it by drilling a small hole through the ball joints and inserting a piece of wire (once you get it positioned to fits your needs) or glue it but that's permanent.

Cardboard not plastic board to hold up music and notes. Needs to be 2 inches wider and taller to hold properly and make it with a plastic sheet so you can transport and use it more than once. I rec to friend who knows this is just for a temporary use. Maybe in a home studio.

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

This stand has proven very handy. Very prtable and convenient for a sheet or 2. Obviously being so light it's not indestructible, but treated kindly mine hasn't had any problems yet. It's not industial duty but the price isn't either. I would replace it if it goes missing in action.

This is a good music stand.

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

I would not say this is the best stand in the world but it works. The one downside is that you can not put more than one sheet of music on but otherwise it works great. I would just say that when you clip it to a guitar it does not work that well, I would recomend clipping it just to a music stand or clipping it to the handle on an amp. Overall for the price this is a very good music stand.

    Ingenius and cheap!

    By SJ Martin

    from Madison,WI

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

This is an extraordinary piece of engineering that requires more fine tuning. The plastic ball/joint swivel tends to 'slip/' down unless you test the it first with one piece of music (not more). Generally, there is a 'hold' point where the music doesn't slip when attached to a mic boom. I poured a drop or two of glue between the ball/joint for added traction.

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

I use this stand for learning one song at a time with my band, works great for holding a few pages of paper at a time, only downside is that it isn't the strongest of stands (but is also very lightweight) and could easily be broken, but it isn't hard to take care of it.

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

This is a great little accessory. Very light weight and clips easily and sturdily to the end of my mic boom stand. Will hold several sheets at one time. Has an alligator-type clamp at the bottom. It's easy to take a page of lyrics from your word program, reduce it to an area of 6"X8", trim excess paper off and it fits nicely in stand. Backside of stand is black so it blends in nicely from audience side.

Comments about Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand:

Up-Stage Clip-On Music Stand is ingenious--useful for practice and performance. A little glue on plastic ballpoint keeps the mechanism from moving and music from slipping down. But well worht it.
