Comments about Vater Virgil Donati Signature Drumsticks:

Fantastic stick...I can't imagine using anything else now. The culmination of design, feel, construction, tone, longevity, and value make this the perfect stick for me. It has a very authoritative attack, but is also very sensitive to changes in dynamics. Additionally, despite being relatively large, it is so without a lot of extra weight and it neither lacks agility nor nimbleness . This is a fabulous performing stick from one of todays most technically adept and musically progressive drummers. Do not hesitate to get this stick...I'm only sorry I waited so long.
What can I say about features...it's a drum stick. Ha! Hickory construction, 16 3/8" long, 0.625" diameter, short taper design with big chunky shoulder.

This stick is AMAZING! I purchased 8 different pairs of sticks from Musician's Friend in an effort to audtion sticks. For the last 8+ years I've used Promark 420s but wanted a bigger more durable stick...plus I wanted a new hand feel as well. As such, I took a sampling of some very "typical" sticks [i.e. 2B, 5B, etc] and various artist models [i.e. Mangini, Bozzio, Donati, etc] to see which I liked best moving forward. I must say that as a drummer for 20 years [been playing since 10] that I have developed repetitive stress injuries and I definitely work toward pampering my hands. As such, I had preconcieved ideas about what sticks would ultimately work best...the Vater Donati was merely added as a curiosity as I've always wondered about the stick, however, given my small sore hands, I didn't think a stick of this size would serve me well...wow, was I wrong.

The final stick I added [the Donati] is the perfect stick for me. It feels like an extension of my hand. And even though the worksmanship and quality of all the sticks I tried are 10s, this one just has a little extra "something".
Fantastic construction, worksmanship, materials, and feel. Feel is important. I like a satin finish that feels neither too "raw" and not too "slick". Likewise, it shouldn't feel "unnatural" in my hand after I start to perspire. The Vater Assault has a nice satin finish that stays true when it heats up and you start to sweat. It has a very natural tactile feel...nothing artifical feeling about it.

Additionally, it is VERY robust and has great durability. I read where Vater sticks actually have a slightly higher moisture content with the thinking that the added moisture makes a more resilient less brittle stick. Whatever the case, it definitely lasts.
Considering the landscape of sticks, and their prices, I believe that this is a well priced stick. As I stated, I also purchased the Zildjian Mangini stick [which is amazing in it's own right, but not for me...see my review of that too] which is a slightly more expensive stick...but even that stick is worth the money [with it's laminated birch construction, the thing is as hard as an Ahead aluminum stick]. The Donati has great longevity and therefore makes it a great value too.

Great rock sticks

Comments about Vater Virgil Donati Signature Drumsticks:

I bought these sticks because my music store was out of Smitty Smith Power Fusion sticks, which I had been using for about a year. They seemed similar enough, and I ended up liking them better. I am a rock drummer primarily and these are good thick sticks with a perfect length. I particularly like the round bead tip (the Power Fusions have that too)for ride cymbal articulation. It fattens up the cymbal. These sticks seem to have lasted longer than others I've played too, but that could just be my imagination. I just wish Vater sticks were less expensive.

Comments about Vater Virgil Donati Signature Drumsticks:

These sticks are all I will use. They fell great and work well with traditional grip. I once played a 3 hour gig and they lasted me the whole show. A great buy for anyone who loves a larger stick.
