These are literally standard Peltor earmuffs you can find at any home improvement store, and for less money. You can see the Peltor logo molded into the earcups. The Vic Firth logo is simply silk-screened (or some other method) over it.These earmuffs are not designed for playing music. The attenuation is far too quiet, and is non-linear, meaning that some frequencies are blocked out more than others which creates an un-natural sound. You are much better off buying a pair of musicians' earplugs.Having said that, if you play in an extremely loud band, you might want to consider the pair that is sold at [@] or [@], which is exactly the same as these, but for a little less cash.

A must have for every drummer.

By Tom Smith--tfzk

from Ventura, CA

Comments about Vic Firth dB22 Isolation Headset:

Have you ever sat down at a crappy, taped-together drum kit and actually felt yourself playing worse because of how bad the kit sounded? It happens because the sound of your drums affects your playing. Well, imagine how you might play on a drum kit that sounded perfectly tuned and eq'd. The DB22s have that exact effect on your drumming. When I put the DB22s on, my live drumming sounded like a great recording that was eq'd and compressed. I realized that this completely changed the way I approached my kit. Everything sounded great so I actually PLAYED BETTER when I had them on. It took me one practice session with these things to fall in love. It's helped my tempo and technique so much during practice that I'm seriously throwing around the idea of wearing them DURING SHOWS... That is, if my vocalist lets me.For a full-band practice, the "eq'd kit" effect does not get lost completely during loud rocking, but don't expect the entire band to sound as good as the solo drums did through these things. I use them for rehearsals so that I can hear myself better but I've noticed that, compared to a rehearsal with no noise reduction of any kind on/in my head, I can now hear my bassist ten-fold and my lead guitarist just barely enough for it not to be a problem. The DB22s do not offer the same amount of reduction for every frequency like a pair of $100 custom fitted ear-plugs but they sure do the job of making your drums sound awesome in your ears. Equal priced ear-plug solutions for drummers are garbage when compared to the DB22s. When you hear better, you play better. So get 'em.

Comments about Vic Firth dB22 Isolation Headset:

These are awesome. I use them at band practice every week and at shows. They really make a difference. When my guitarists are hollering about how their ears hurt, mine feel perfectly fine. These are definitely a must. The only thing better are the electric isolation headphones.

Get Them!

By Jshoes21-DMK_L

Comments about Vic Firth dB22 Isolation Headset:

The Vic Firth dB22 Isolation Headphones are amazing. At first I was wondering if they even worked good. I tried them out at a local music store and was blown away! I was amazed because of how much noise was eliminated. These also make your drums sound much deeper and more professional. Get Them they save your hearing. If you get them you won't regret it and you won't want to drum without them.

My ears are still in tact after 10 years

By RogueDeals

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about Vic Firth dB22 Isolation Headset:

I've been playing for 10+ years now, bought these a long time ago 6+ yrs ago and they still are in mint condition. They fit comfortably though you'll get a bit hot if you are really playing like a mad man. They still allow the drums to come through, so it is still very enjoyable to play. The are one solid product and best of all I still can hear.If you play along with music, I suggest buying the electronic ones, but these are an affordable option if you are practicing solos, beats, etc.

These things are NICE!!!

By Anonymous

Comments about Vic Firth dB22 Isolation Headset:

I just got these a few days ago. My ears have been ringing after I play because of horrible acoustics in my basement. So i needed something to protect my ears. These things worked really well. They didn't completley block out the sound so I could hear what I was doing and my ears stopping ringing so hopefully these will protect my ears for a long time. They do mak your set sound a little funny. te toms sond better, but the snare is not as crisp. The acual color isn't blue but is black.

Comments about Vic Firth dB22 Isolation Headset:

I like em so much I just picked up a second pair. Great for practicing on the drumkit, rehearsing with other musicians, or just wearing them in the house when others are playing on the drumkit. They are very comfortable and your drumkit sounds pretty good with them on. I believe they really help in protecting your hearing.

These are Great

By Jordan-jFEF4

Comments about Vic Firth dB22 Isolation Headset:

I have had these headphones ever since i started to play drums. Two years later, they're in the same condition and same quality they were when i got them. The headphones really cut out the excess overtones and other noise and bring out the true sound of the drums. They are so comfortible, I even forget theyre on! I recommend these for all drummers, they're a great deal and they save your hearing.

Awesome!

By Spldeftones

from Tewksbury, MA

Comments about Vic Firth dB22 Isolation Headset:

I play in a active rock band and recently got a second drum kit for my house due to the fact that my main kit is at the rehearsal space. When i am by myself at home the db22s make my kit sound like every drum is mic'd. but when playing with my band i find that the bass guitar is too loud in the head phones but it is manageable and im buying a second pair for the rehearsal kit. Plus its nice to just pop the headphones off your ears rather than having to twist ear plugs in and out everytime you need to listen to someone talk or whatever.*Also great to wear over ear bud style music headphones so you can play along with a cd/mp3 player or metronome.

ALL drummers should own atleast two of these

Comments about Vic Firth dB22 Isolation Headset:

ALL drummers should own these. no exceptions. besides the fact that they protect your hearing, which is important, it's really not the reason why i got them lol. they make your playing sound AMAZING. everything sounds so cool. like drums strait from a studio. can't explain it. just buy them now. what i like to do is put the headphones over my ipod earphones when i play along to music and click tracks. oh yeah, the only problem is i play a lot harder now because the sounds are so soft. haven't broken anything yet so i guess it's all cool! be nice and buy another pair so your friend can use them too and you won't feel bad about playing too hard.

This isolation headset is incredible!

By dudeman

Comments about Vic Firth dB22 Isolation Headset:

The first time I put this headset on and played around my set for a few seconds, I knew I made a great choice. This set brings the volume WAY WAY down, but still somehow now only keeps the tone of my drum kit more even, it seems to IMPROVE the tone (and they have great tone already!). I quite frankly can't believe I'm not already totally deaf. I swear. After playing for around 30 minutes, I had to go do other stuff, and took the headset off and played for a few seconds and thought to myself... OMG.... what have I been putting my ears throuh all these years!!!! I let my 12 year old try them on and jam (he doesn't really play that much)... and he played for a good 15 minutes! All because he had more fun (instead of suffering ear pain!). These are awesome and I would buy them again for sure!!!
I guess this headset has only one feature. But it works most excellently!!
They appear well built and have some meat to them. They're not uncomfortable. They are tight-fitting, but that's just how they have to be to do their job... which they do VERY well.
For the price, this headset can not be beat.

Saves your hearing

By Ebin

Comments about Vic Firth dB22 Isolation Headset:

The guitarist in my band likes to play loud. I mean-LOUD. So, after a few weeks of practice, I bought these. It completely changes how you play drums. My bass drum, snare-everything is quieted down to a level where you can hear yourself over everything, but still able to hear the rest of your band. It stops that ringing I get after playing drums for a while, too.

Can't say enough great things about this headset!!!

Comments about Vic Firth dB22 Isolation Headset:

After years of bleeding ears (not literally), I read the reviews and bought these headphones to use with my new Tama Silverstars. All I can say is.. OMG!! They blow me away every time I play. They make your kit sound like you're sitting in a studio playing on Mike Portnoy's drum kit. I'm not kidding you! I don't know how... but they make drums sound absolutely incredible. The tone comes through great!! But at way lover volume levels. The way they make your drums sound is reason enough to buy these. The ear protection is just a bonus! Trust me! I'm gonna get a couple more pairs for the kids and will let them play in the basement while I jam. I've noticed my kids jam on my kit way more often now that they can use this headset! GET EM'!

My husband is a musician and I have been pestering him for years to get a pair of head phones to wear during practice/shows to protect his hearing. Since he hasn't yet, I decided to get him a pair for Christmas. After researching numerous websites and reading a lot of reviews these seem to be a great selection. This website also definitely had them at the best price!

    Protect those ears

    By liquidtenor

    from Kansas City North

Comments about Vic Firth dB22 Isolation Headset:

These make my drums sound boomy and you can really hear the articulation of your stick hitting the hi-hat and ride cymbals; it cuts out a lot of the wash. Plus, obviously, they protect my ears from the harsh noise of the drums and cymbals. I'd recommend these to anyone who plays drums or maybe even for guitarists who play in a really loud band (at least, for rehearsals).

Comments about Vic Firth dB22 Isolation Headset:

I purchased these about 8 months ago when I started to get this "wonderful" ice-pick feeling in my ears when ever my guitarist hit a high note during his leads. He doesn't play that loud so I knew something was wrong. I figured if Rod Morganstine (spelled wrong) uses these, and he does live also, how bad could they be. Well they are great. No more pain and, as noted in other reviews, my kit does sound EQ'd. Get 'em!!!!!!
