Voodoo Lab

Isolated power supply for pro stage and studio use.

The Voodoo Lab Pedal Power ISO-5 is an isolated power supply for powering guitar pedal effects and accessories. It's the ultimate compact solution for smaller pedalboards, rack shelves, or even as an additional power supply for larger boards. With five isolated, filtered and regulated output sections, ISO-5 keeps even the most sensitive vintage and boutique analog pedals dead quiet.

Pedal Power ISO-5 includes a high-current output which will properly power modern digital power-hungry effects like those from Eventide, Line 6, and TC Electronic. The power supply also has a dedicated 18V output for those guitar pedals that need the higher voltage for extra headroom.

Designed to meet the needs of professional users, Voodoo Lab Pedal Power ISO-5 will provide clean, consistent power, even with the poor AC line conditions often found on stage. Its completely isolated output sections eliminate ground loops, hum, and unwanted interactions between effects, resulting in lower noise and noticeably improved tone.

Features

  • Five isolated outputs
  • Compatible with all battery operated pedals
  • Includes high current 9V and 12V outputs, plus dedicated 18V output
  • Powers Boss Twin, Eventide, Line 6 modelers, and TC Electronic Nova pedals

I only use 4 pedals which makes the capacity of this power supply great for me. Even greater is that my EQ pedal uses the 18 volt input. It comes with a decent amount of hook-up cables so you should not have a problem powering your cables.
Having played in many poorly lit badly wired venues I have come to realize that unless I wanted to spend a ton of money on GD 9 volt batteries I was going to need a power supply. I have tried less expensive options but let me tell you if you are not just playing in your room they suck. Well if you like the buzz of stage lights through your amp and that special ratty sound produced by poor electrical wiring then the one spot is for you!!!! (I have one and it works fine at home but I actually had to unplug it at a 3000+ venue and use batteries as the buzz was so bad)

The plug for this is a good selling point as it is a not a flimsy wall wart, not sure what they are actually called, but it is the same kind of cable your amp uses to plug in. (most of them anyway) What you see is what you get.
    Solid.
It will pay for itself over time, 9 volts are not cheap.

PROS: This power supply does make pedals sound great. It's powerful and quiet running; keeps the signal chain nice and clean, even if your pedals are not true bypass.

CONS: I'm afraid it just isn't a reliable power supply. Mine stopped working after a little over a year. One day it just quit. The only warning was one of my pedals quit working, then about 15 seconds later the entire unit died. Judging from other reviews I've seen, this seems to be a common problem with this particular model.

I took it in, and the tech said that the transformer was the component that failed. The cost to fix it would have been almost as much as a brand new power supply. So I gave him some cash for shop time and decided to buy a T-Rex Fuel Tank Chameleon to replace it.

Overall, I was pretty disappointed with this unit. I know Voodoo Labs makes a lot of good stuff and some guys swear by their gear. If you're hell bent on buying a Voodoo Labs power supply for your rig, that's totally cool, but I would get a different model than this one.

Comments about Voodoo Lab Pedal Power ISO-5 Power Supply:

I just got this power supply. My sound went from noise even when all of the effects were turned off to super quiet. One of the pedals on my board is a BOSS acoustic simulator which is possibly the noisiest (but coolest) thing in the universe. Now turning it on is the same as when it's off. Silent. I'm THRILLED with this purchase. If you are using a one spot.. STOP and buy a VOO-DOO product.

I have just received this pedal and have not been using it for long, but it has proven simple and quiet for now. The compatibility with pedaltrain (mounting it underneath) is very convenient and the outputs suited my needs.

        • Power Your Pedals Quietly

Comments about Voodoo Lab Pedal Power ISO-5 Power Supply:

I have used this in a home setup for a month or two, and my experience with it thus far is good. I would say the ISO5 has a lot of power for your board, and it may be the best quiet power source for the money. I have a Voodoo 2 as well, and it might be overkill. You can power a lot of pedals quietly with the ISO5. You will just need to buy a separate daisy chain adapter.

Firstly, what I am saying is that the ISO5 can be more flexible than just powering 5 pedals. The 400ma output, for example, has some extra overhead to use. If you daisy chain several pedals that do not get used at the same time, like a set of dirt/boost pedals, it will remain quiet. Also, a lot of pedals only pull 5-25ma, so you can daisy chain on a 100ma output as well. I would recommend something like a compressor or a NR that is always on should get its own solo slot.

If I had to complain, it would mostly be the price. These things are not cheap as power supplies go. You really have to take your time. Find out all the power requirements of all your pedals. Then, carefully select which Voodoo Labs power supply will be the most economical. If you are made of money, just get the '2'.

I think this is worth owning. It is probably not the cheapest way to get quiet power, but if you are plagued by power problems with your pedals, it could be worth plunking down. It is definitely quiet, and you can stretch it a bit beyond 5 pedals if you are savvy. Next cheaper option is to try a 'regulated' wall wart, which is a big cost savings, so look into that as well.

Overall, this is a 5 star product. It does its job too well to give it any less. It may be a 4 star value, but it is hard to beat as a product.

Comments about Voodoo Lab Pedal Power ISO-5 Power Supply:

This Iso5 power supply was great for my small gator pedalboard. It would have been nice if there were screw holes on the power supply so I could mount it underneath without having to rig stuff.
It did a fine job powering my Fulltone 18W effects as well as another three 9 Volters. Running the Fulltone at 18W made it sound more present and alive. The extra AC outlet on the back of the Pedal Power 2 is a nice add-on, I wish the Iso 5 had that. BUT the Iso 5 has it's own dedicated 18V outlet, no need to use a special cord to chain two 9s together, so the Iso5 wins there. I guess the deciding factor when picking betwixt the two is how many pedals you need to power.

Q-U-I-E-T!!!! Wish I'd had this 20 years ago-not sure how the engineers did it, but this is a pedalboards' first mate. Reliable, and did I mention the lack of noise? If you are used to hearing static hash from your pedal power system, and mentally filing it away under "oh well..."-
This is built for you. I don't know how they could've made this a better product-seems no details were spared. Oh-And if you can't power super-suckers like Strymon or Eventide, Voodoo Lab makes a model that will suit your needs too-try the Pedal Power Digital!

Died after 6 months for no reason

Comments about Voodoo Lab Pedal Power ISO-5 Power Supply:

It could produce golden eggs and light the universe, but if it dies in 6 months, its crap.
While it functioned, it was excellent
It worked well for 6 months, then nothing. No power surge, nothing. The power box was never moved around or taken on the road. It was plugged into a fused power cord. It simply ceased to function.
Expensive for an item that only lasts 6 months. They need to see why they all die so quickly and correct the problem.

Loved it! ...until it died for no reason.

Comments about Voodoo Lab Pedal Power ISO-5 Power Supply:

This product would be great if it was reliable. I bought it in November of last year, and a week ago (mid august) it just stopped working. No shorts, no shocks, no surge, no reason. Dead. I have another voodoo lab pedal power 2 plus that I had plugged in on the same strip and it works fine.

Never even gigged with it, just sits in my office on the underside of a pedaltrain pro pedal board.
It has great ports for power supply.
              Died for no reason...
It would be an "okay" value if it didn't die. For no reason.
