I've tried several other brands of XLR's but these are the absolute best. They're not hard to make the solder connections or assemble. I especially like the tight grip when the boot is screwed onto the base of the connector. Whether you repair your own cables or buy wire in bulk and make your own, you cannot go wrong with these.

Don't through away your mic cables. Most likely it just needs a new connector. Buy a tester to check the cable then buy the best XLR connector made, NEUTRIK.
They are the easiest to work with, no little screws to mess with, which don't really hold the tail in place anyway. Just unscrew it, slip it over the cable, solder the pins and screw it back together. I installed a 40 channel board, pulling 48 channels of bulk cable which need XLR ends added to each. The NEUTRIK made it a breeze to install.
