OVERVIEW

A great option for full-force rock/metal tones.

The Warehouse 12" Veteran 30 speaker takes aim at dethroning the Celestion Vintage 30 as king of the rock guitar speakers. The 60W Veteran 30 improved response and smoothed out upper-mid frequencies, but still pushes hard and clean.

I replaced the stock Celestion 70/80 Speaker in my Traynor YCV40 which sounded pretty good. I've had that amp for many years and never changed it until now. You can hear it here with that speaker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw2y1MyG52Q
And here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkxsUvB_s2w
Keep in mind I'm not using the amps distortion here. Clean channel with a Lovepedal COT set low and a Dalelectro Cool Cat Drive.

I watched a lot of youtube videos before I bought the Veteran 30. This is supposed to be a knock-off of the Celestion Vintage 30 which has a very pronounced midrange. The Veteran 30 seemed to have a more blanced EQ than the Vintage 30. More lows and not so shrill highs. The 70/80 has a bit of a fizzy quality in the upper frequencies. However, I did a close mike A/B recording of both the 70/80 and the Veteran 30 and was a bit disappointed with the results. The Veteran 30 sounded too dark, like a blanket was thrown over the amp.

Just playing through the amp, it sounds much better with the Veteran 30. Less fizziness and tighter lows but nice midrange and punchier than the 70/80.

Tip: If you don't like the sound of your amp, and before you invest in new tubes or speakers, turn down the highs and lows and boost the mids. Throughout the 40 years I've been playing, this is probably the most important thing one can do to improve tone. I've had many players compliment my tone and say they have the same amp but mine sounds better. I tell them to do this and one for one, they come back saying they love the sound of their amp now.

If you listen closely to the guitar in recordings of all the great rock players, you will hear this midrange hump. This is counter-intuitive to most green players. The cut mids and boosted bass and treble frequencies sound pleasant. However, guitar is a midrange instrument. Those narly and seemingly offensive mids give the guitar it's character and help cut through the mix. You may find you don't even need to change the speaker in many cases if you tweak the eq on your amp this way.

Comments about Warehouse Guitar Speakers Veteran 30 12" 60W British Invasion Guitar Speaker:

I installed this speaker in a closed back birch ply 2x12 by Coyote Cabs along with a WGS ET65. These speakers sounded perfect from the beginning, only to improve upon break-in! Have used them so far with a JCM800 2204 as well as a home built JCM800 2203 with KT88's and a vintage Bassman. WGS offers many different sounding speakers that all share a similar sensitivity rating, so it is easy to mix speakers in a cab! WGS is a small company that deserves respect and I highly recommend their product based on my experience so far! I am glad Musician's Friend carries these speakers.

Comments about Warehouse Guitar Speakers Veteran 30 12" 60W British Invasion Guitar Speaker:

This is my second Veteran 30. The original was a replacement for the stock speaker in my DSL40c. I put this second one into an empty 1x12 cabinet making my DSL40 basically into a 2x12. Wow what a difference. The DSL40 already sounded great but this addition made it sound even bigger, especially at lower volumes. The Veteran 30 is half the price of a Vintage 30 and its as good or better. Big magnet and well built just like a Celestion. WGS makes some great speakers. If you are looking to upgrade or fill an empty cabinet, don't hesitate to order one or more!

I tried V30 in Orange Cab and didn't like it. Too much in your face BLAST! Too much ear fatigue, which is what the Vet30 is designed NOT to do. I have matched with ET 65 4X12 in 1960A Cab. It's my go to Cab. Every Amp I have plays through it flawlessly. I can't say that about other marquee Cabs I own. I paired parallel as opposed to X pattern. X pattern was too topsy turvey in tone. Parallel fits like peanut butter & jelly. This speaker is WGS prototype. by itself it may be a little dull, but matched with ET-65 the speaker barks and the the ET -65 tries to tone it down.

I bought the Veteran 30 to replace the stock speaker in my Marshall DSL 40c. What an amazing speaker! At first I was put off by the price, but after doing some research, the Vet 30 sounded amazing, so I decided to try it out. When I first opened the box, I noticed how well the speaker was constructed and how it looked much more substantial than the Seventy/80 that I had in there. Once I fired up the amp and strummed the first chord, I couldn't stop from smiling, it was such a noticeable difference between how my old speaker, it cleaned up my sound and eliminated the harsh tones I was getting. I would highly recommend this speaker for any amp, not only is it priced right and made in the USA, it will improve your tone and make it seem like you are playing through a new amp.

I was looking to buy a Celestion Vintage 30, then a friend of mine mentioned this company. I was a little skeptical, but I figured for the price (its almost half of a Vintage 30) it's worth a shot. All I can say is WOW. I was blown away. Has the same warmth as a Vintage, but with a smoother mid range. I liked it so much I build a new 2x12 custom cab and purchased the ET65 WGS and installed that along side the Veteran. As far as I'm concerned my search for tone is complete. I use it with an old 80's Marshall JCM 800.

Bought the WGS veteran 30 to replace the Celestion seventy/80 that came in my Marshall dsl40c. It sounds fantastic, helped to tame the really fizzy high end I had before, and tightened up the low end. Definitely has more noticeable punch in the midrange, this things cuts without being harsh. Considering buying a set to put in a combination with another wgs speaker in my 4x12 peavey cab.

This speaker came stock in a Suhr 1-12 Badger cabinet that I use with a Badger 30 head.It is a good speaker and I can dial a good tone with it.It does have a lot of treble so with the Suhr head I have to almost turn the treble to 0.With a tele or strat it can get brittle unless you really cut the eq on both the amp and guitar. It can cut thru the mix well and has good lows.I am not sure that I will stay with it but the fact that Suhr voiced the Badger 30 to it is in my opinion prood that it is a quality speaker.I am very picky with speakers and went thru 5 different speakers on a vintage deluxe reverb before I found the eminence commonwealth for it.

I've been wanting to try one these for some time but was always a little skittish about wasting money already knowing many of the speakers I like and dislike. I had a speaker start rattling a few days before I had a studio session set up and not wanting to spend a bucket of money on the speaker I was already using, I had 2 of these express shipped. I had another back up cab to use just in case these didn't work out. I wired these in and fired them up to go through a break in cycle, I just couldn't wait and immediately cranked them loud about 1 minute after hearing them. They sound great, even when brand new and not broken in. Although they do obviously accentuate some of the same frequencies as a Vintage 30, they are really all their own animal. This speaker could honestly be used in any style of music and because of it's pronounced midrange, could really bring to life some of the budget amps many kids are starting off with these days. By the way, it works great with a 100 watt tube head and professionally built 4x12's as well.
