Excellent Pedal for the Money

Comments about Yamaha 7210 Chain Drive Single Bass Drum Pedal:

I purchased this pedal from Musician's Friend as a spare for gigs; one that I would only use in an emergency in the event my main one breaks down. It just arrived today and after checking it out and playing it, I'm wondering why anyone would buy an expensive model when this reasonably priced pedal does the job. It's smooth, well-built and collapses easily for storage. It may not be as smooth or have all the bells and whistles of a $300 pedal, but I really don't notice the difference as I could play everything on this pedal that I can play on my expensive Yamaha pedal. If you disagree with me and don't like the pedal, Musican's Friend is awesome about returns.

Surprisingly great product

Comments about Yamaha 7210 Chain Drive Single Bass Drum Pedal:

I am a giging drummer, and I have used many high end pedals including double pedals. I got this pedal as a gift, and was amazed by its versatility and smooth feel. I have used it in the recording studio and it is absolutely noisless. It folds up compactly for easy transport night after night. It is also extremely light weight. Do yourself a favor get it you will not be dissapointed. This is also the best price I have seen on it.

Good Pedal for the money

By Fyrhazzrd

from Indiana

Comments about Yamaha 7210 Chain Drive Single Bass Drum Pedal:

I've had this pedal for a little over a year now. My only real complaint with this pedal is the lower spring nut. It is always backing off and falling off in the middle of a song. It got to the point to where I would have to check the tension after every few songs. I finally gave up on it and applied lock-tight to it and have not had a problem since. I also had the same problem with the beater rod. I applied lock-tight to that as well.

Excellent no-nonsense drum pedal. Only drawback is lack of spurs to grab and keep from sliding.

Comments about Yamaha 7210 Chain Drive Single Bass Drum Pedal:

I searched for a "Professional Model" kicker like I am used to and
was sceptical to have to settle for this model but it works just fine and I like that the base is a little thinner than the pro. model so the footprint is smaller.

Comments about Yamaha 7210 Chain Drive Single Bass Drum Pedal:

This pedal came with my Yamaha Power 5 Special kit. Its a great one, it has some good features. The adjustment is easy, its pretty lightweight, and the design is pretty cool. my only gripe about this pedal is the felt beater, i wish it was a rubber or wood beater. but thats my problem and probably not yours, so overall its a great buy.

Comments about Yamaha 7210 Chain Drive Single Bass Drum Pedal:

This pedal was purchased for my son, who is a beginning drummer. The item was back ordered, but the price was so good and the quality / reviews so good that we didn't really care. Fully adjustable spring tension, length and positioner and a Yamaha to boot. Couldn't go wrong.

Comments about Yamaha 7210 Chain Drive Single Bass Drum Pedal:

I've had this for around 5 months now. It came with my Yamaha Stage Custom Set. When i first got it, it was great, but since i have a heavy foot, the felt beater is getting flat. Also, the lug on the bottom that holds the spring has come off around 3 times in the middle of songs. After really tightening it up very well it hasn't come off since.

          • Clamp is all metal, may damage wood hoops

          Best Uses

Comments about Yamaha 7210 Chain Drive Single Bass Drum Pedal:

This pedal is smoother and faster than my Iron Cobra Power Glide I am replacing. There are only three things to adjust: beater/footboard angle, beater length, and spring tension. With only these three, I can play heel up, heel down, and heel-toe just fine. There are heavier, more sturdy pedals, but then you will pay a lot more for them. Unless you are a heavy-stomping, gear abusing player, this pedal will hold up. I love the simplicity of this pedal, its smooth feel, speed, and price. The only negative I have found is that the clamp is all metal with no rubber or neoprene cushion, so it may damage wood bass drum hoops if you don't buffer it yourself. I just can't imagine justifying paying more for a pedal because this one plays just fine. I gave it five stars because it does what is advertised: smooth pedal at a great price.

Already have one like this and I wanted another one for my other trap case. Very light touch. Love it.

I expect this pedal will need more periodic adjustment than the industrial pro version.

Comments about Yamaha 7210 Chain Drive Single Bass Drum Pedal:

I've used different pedals over the years, Pearl, DW, Iron Cobra, etc., and was looking for something very simple, direct, collapsible, and without a bunch of unnecessary bells and whistles and ordered one of these to try out.

I've been very happy with it, especially for the price. I've used it regularly for ~3 years or so and no issues other than the beater getting worn down.

It's probably too lightweight for real heavy hitters, but it works great for me. No weird cam shafts, just a nice even swing, very responsive, tight spring and good bounce, no problem playing doubles and fast patterns, and I can collapse it almost flat and throw it in my hardware bag with everything else real quick at the end of the night.

If anything goes wrong with it, it's such a straight forward design that it's going to be easy to fix, or if it's really broken, it's cheap to replace.

Comments about Yamaha 7210 Chain Drive Single Bass Drum Pedal:

The first time I used it, the tension spring nut and lock washers fell off in the middle of a song. Luckily, it was during a practice, and not at a gig. There were little parts (the nut, washer, and lock washers) all over the floor and it rendered the pedal useless. I would be sure to check the tension spring mechanism before your start using it.
