Our home recently flooded, and among the rooms flooded were my office and music studio. As I was moving everything out of the rooms with six inches of standing water and more pouring in, I was just sick to my stomach and trying to salvage whatever I could. When I picked up my sustain pedal, water just poured out of it! I let it drain and set it in a pile of stuff to haul to the dump. A few days later, as things were drying out, I decided to try to use the pedal - just to see what would happen. Plugged this puppy in and - VOILA - worked like it had never been swimming. I was shocked! Now, if i can just keep it from trying to run away when I'm using it - we'll be best friends... LOL!

This sustain pedal works really well, once you coral it from trying to get away. I finally came to the conclusion that it had to be placed against the diagonal leg of the keyboard stand to make it behave. Being a trained organist/pianist, my sustaining foot had no problem with the altered position from that of a grand piano. Just like riding a bicycle, you never forget how.
I use this pedal with the Yamaha PSR- E423 and have never had any problem with it reversing it's function as has been observed by other users. The pedal feels good while being used and is absolutely silent in operation. It is almost a match in action to my baby grand making the change from one to the other almost unnoticeable.
So, Great pedal, but if you must have it right in front of you; you'll need two manhole covers to keep it from getting away. I've tried all kinds of mats to no avail. Butt it against the corner of a keyboard stand and it will be fine. Just pay attention to the cable from the pedal. No Pinching!

    FC4 Sustain Pedal

    By Frank Dujmic

Comments about Yamaha FC4 Piano-Style Sustain Pedal:

Great quality sustain pedal, affordable and well constructed, compatible with basic Yamaha keyboard. Appears to be very durable; not light weight or flimsy.
Make sure the keyboard is off before installing pedal or it does not work properly.

Pedal works fine - check keyboard

Comments about Yamaha FC4 Piano-Style Sustain Pedal:

I have been using this pedal on and off (pun intended) for 10 years. It's the same one that came with my Yamaha P80 keyboard. I recently purchased a Yamaha PSR-E413 for my son and the pedal INITIALLY worked in reverse (sustained when pedal was released). I just turned the power on/off while depressing the pedal and it worked normally after that. If you are having issues, make sure that it's not the keyboard that's causing the problem.

Comments about Yamaha FC4 Piano-Style Sustain Pedal:

I have bought several pedals over the years and only seem to be able to get a year - maybe two out of them. I do not abuse them in any way - just seems they have a short life. Anyway, I decided to try the Yamaha because it was a brand I had not used before. I didn't check to see if the polarity of the pedal could be reversed because in my experience, you can change the polarity by depressing the pedal as you turn on the keyboard and that does it even if there is not a separate switch. Well....that does not work on this pedal. I have used every recommended method available. Plug Pedal in BEFORE turning keyboard on is just one example. Anyway NOTHING works to reverse the polarity of the pedal, there is no switch on the bottom to do so AND unfortunately I do not have an option in my keyboard settings to change the setting of the sustain - can only change the FUNCTION of the jack. I am disappointed because it looks like a great pedal - seems to be made much better than the others I have used. I guess my next option would to buy a keyboard that matches the pedal!! THAT is not an option for me, so I must return the pedal. I would certainly recommend buying this pedal IF it is compatible with your keyboard - nice quality, good price

Comments about Yamaha FC4 Piano-Style Sustain Pedal:

Bought this to use with my new Yamaha PSR E433 keyboard. It acted as a damper pedal, not a sustain pedal! It was either wired wrong, labeled wrong, or was not compatible with my keyboard. Sent it back.

Comments about Yamaha FC4 Piano-Style Sustain Pedal:

I own 9 of these. I love them for the pro's mentioned, but I dislike the fact that it is a normally closed circuit only. I've modified a couple to a normally open circuit so I can use them with Oberheim and Sequential Circuits gear, but it sure would be nice to have a switch on them that would flip them between normally closed and normally open operation. Also, as another poster noted, they do slip around on the floor, but so does every other pedal.

I thought this was not going to work. It was responding backwards. All I had to do was turn the keyboard off, and then back on with the pedal already attached. Perfect. Really nice feel to the workings of the pedal.

I have had my pedal for at least ten years now and love the sound this pedal produces. Plus it has the switch in the bottom of the pedal if you want the sustained keys to stay.

Comments about Yamaha FC4 Piano-Style Sustain Pedal:

We bought this pedal for our keyboard awhile back and I don't regret it one bit. We were trying to choose between the FC5 and the FC4, but we decided to go with the FC4 because it would work better on squishy carpet. If you need a keyboard, I highly recommend this one to you. Even though it is a little bit higher, you get your money's worth out of it.
