Comments about Yamaha RS700 Electronic Drum Set Assembled Rack System:

Before purchasing the Yamaha, I had narrowed my search down to Yamaha, Harmon-Kardon, and Marantz. For my own personal preferences, I made the right choice. I just wanted a solid stereo receiver that would enable me to listen to music played through the entire spectrum of my older audio components, and without all of the extra inputs for video, etc.. This Yamaha receiver had the best combination and/or variety of analog connections that would allow me to easily attach all of those components. I also liked the fact that it has manual dials on the front to control volume, balance, bass, treble, etc., instead of only being able to control those functions through a remote control. You can still do all of that with the remote that comes with the Yamaha, but I like the option of walking up to the receiver and making those adjustments manually. My only wish is that it had connections for a third set of speakers. I replaced a great 50W x 2 Pioneer receiver that I had purchased back in 1973 with this new Yamaha receiver, but I am still using two sets of Harmon-Kardon speakers that I also purchased in 1973. They sound great with this new receiver. Here is a list of the other components that I have hooked up to this Yamaha R-S700BL; an Akai cassette player-recorder, a Phillips CD player-recorder, a Technics turntable, and a Panasonic 4-track Reel-to-Reel player-recorder. I couldn't be happier about my decision to go with Yamaha.

This replaces a 19 year old system that was very good, but the right channel went out. This receiver by far surpasses my old one. The sound is crystal clear and the power is outstanding. Being into audio for over 50 years, I appreciate all the inputs for all my tape equipment.

Comments about Yamaha RS700 Electronic Drum Set Assembled Rack System:

I have owned the Yamaha R-S700 Natural Sound two Chanel Stereo Receiver for about a month now. I must say the quality of the build and clarity of sound is unsurpassed for a receiver in this price range. This unit replaces a 130 watt Pioneer SA-1490 that served me well but did not replicate the music like the RS 700. I had Denon receiver that I paid more for back in 1983 that had more power, the Denon unit was very good but did not have the range and clarity of this Yamaha. I have a Denon surround sound system for my TV that I like very much, but it cannot produce the warm sound quality of analog. I wanted to have a dedicated two channel stereo to play my albums and CDs and I am glad I bought this Yamaha R-S700. I have rediscover the uncompressed sound of my albums and CDs and I must say my son who grew up in the MP3 age is impressed with what comes out of my speakers even more than me. Buy it you won't regret it!

Comments about Yamaha RS700 Electronic Drum Set Assembled Rack System:

Being a child of the 70's and used to that warm analogue sound, it was a tough decision on what receiver to buy to replace my 30+ year old stereo amp. There was Marantz, Onynko, Denon, etc. Being I spin a lot of vinyl I liked the idea of a phono input, and a THD of almost 0%. The retro looks of the Yamaha and the simplicity of it were the deciding factors. Needles to say I was wowed by the sound quality, lack of any his or distortion (even at high volume levels), and the overall build quality. The phono input is only for MM cartridges, so when I decided to upgrade to a low output MC cartridge I had to buy a separate phono pre-amp. When I upgraded to a Audio Technica OC9 II cartridge on my Denon DP 47-f turntable, and added a Musical Surroundings Phonomena II phono preamp (plugged into the line 1 input) the sound blew me away. This receiver sounds fantastic playing both vinyl and CDs.

I recently acquired Bose 901 speakers and only a handful of receivers can accommodate them in a reasonable price range. Yamaha makes a fine product as this is my second Yamaha receiver over a span of 30 years.

Comments about Yamaha RS700 Electronic Drum Set Assembled Rack System:

After ten years of no two channel set up in my home, I decided it was time to reconnect all my two channel components. After connecting my old Definitive Technology BP6 speakers to my trusty old Denon DRA-635R receiver I found that the left channel was no longer functioning. Time for a new receiver. I went to Denon's website only to discover they no longer offer any two channel receivers. I also discovered a lot of two channel gear omits a phono input. I started researching the options available and after reading up on many pieces, I narrowed down my choices to the Outlaw receiver, and intergrated amps from Rotel, NAD, and Cambridge Audio and the Yamaha R-S700 receiver. I finally decided to give the Yamaha a try, and have now been using it for three weeks and I can say I am very happy with it. It has more than enough power and produces a clean balanced sound. One of the features of this receiver is the CD direct amp when playing CD's and the Pure direct amp when playing records. When using that setting, they claim you experience the best sound. My ears have not been able to hear a difference I must admit. The only disappointment with this receiver is that there are no switched or unswitched outlets for your gear included. That is the only reason I gave this piece 4 stars. Put a couple of outlets on this receiver and it is 5 stars all the way! Aside from that, I am very pleased with this receiver and so happy Yamaha manufactures something at an affordable price for those of us that want to pull out our vinyl again and enjoy hi fidility uncompressed sound! And, if you want to play your low fidelity MP3's and the like, you can easily connect your Ipod to this receiver as well. The equipment I have connected is a Denon DP-47F Turntable, a Denon DCD-1500 CD player, and a Technics RS-T911 Cassette Deck. I should also mention that the tuner works quite well too. I live in an area where radio reception is not too good and the tuner is pulling in the stations quite nicely with just the included antennas. Thank you Yamaha for producing such a fine two channel receiver with all the connections needed at an affordable price!

Comments about Yamaha RS700 Electronic Drum Set Assembled Rack System:

I drive two set of speakers - one set in our great room and one set outside on the lanai. The speakers in the great room are 4 ohms with flat response, while the speakers on the lanai are 8 ohms with very bright highs. I am able to adjust the output of the R-S700 very easily with the separate bass and treble controls, and the very useful continuous Loudness control, sllowing me to sccomodate these different speakers perfectly.

Comments about Yamaha RS700 Electronic Drum Set Assembled Rack System:

I was looking to replace a Realistic Catalog/Model Number 31-2069A STA-785 Digital Synthesized AM/FM Stereo Receiver and made contact with Crutchfield as I often do.

The equipment inputs that I needed to duplicate were: Phono (left/right black/red RCA jacks), Phono Ground Screw, TV/Aux (left/right black/red RCA jacks), CD/Aux (left/right black/red RCA jacks), Tape In (left/right black/red RCA jacks), Tape Out (left/right black/red RCA jacks), AM and FM Antenna (two wire each insert pinch connectors) FM (coax connection), Speaker A Left/Right (two each side black/red wire insert pinch connectors), Speaker B Left/Right (two each side black/red wire insert pinch connectors), and an AC Un-switched 120V Max. 100W outlet with push button reset.

The most important as concerned production work for the conversion from studio reel to reel to CD were the coupler jacks (pre out/main in) that allow for the connection of a graphic equalizer (extremely hard to come by)and the in/out CD recorder jacks. I have the reel to reel player coming in on the source #2 jacks.

I wanted a solid stereo receiver that would allow me to listen to music played from all of my audio components to include a Pioneer RT-909 Stereo Reel to Reel, cassette player/recorder, CD player, CD player/recorder, TV, and Gemini direct drive semi-automatic turntable and this Yamaha receiver provided analog connections for everything I was after!

The sound produced is phenomenal as well! I have Realistic Optimus Mach Two speakers and the sound produced is so clean that I am able to achieve higher output without distortion!!

I couldn't be happier about my decision to go with Yamaha.

Comments about Yamaha RS700 Electronic Drum Set Assembled Rack System:

This was to replace my recently deceased HK3480. I was suspect that the less highly reviewed, less powerful Yamaha would be the equal. But for a variety of reasons I gave the Yamaha a try.
The contstruction values are high. Set up was easy. The controls are much more logical and much easier to use than on the HK 3400

But the astounding part is the sonic difference. The CDs are much more detailed and musical. But even more surprising: so are my records. There is more life and more wonderful sound than ever.
Finally, the unit runs surprisingly cool
                      nothing but pluses.

You need to put out new stereos with HDMI inputs and outputs for us who don't really care for the Home Theatre sound other than that don't change a thing. I have the rx-797 and it's great. I also like that I can hook up my equalizer to it and my turntable and I have a subwoofer hooked up to it which I like. I think you are the only ones who put a subwoofer hook up on your stereos which is great. So don't change a thing on the stereos except putting hdmi input and outputs on them when you make new models and keep everything else the same. Thanks

Comments about Yamaha RS700 Electronic Drum Set Assembled Rack System:

Just wanted a new unit to replace my Denon DRA-685 which had nothing wrong with it. This unit does away with all the multi channel junk I never needed or used. I just marveled over the re-invention of the stereo receiver that Yamaha has done here. Pure clean looks and power is what I wanted and now have. Six different inputs handle everything I needed to hook up to it. I held off buying this receiver because of the one thing it lacks-a switched outlet on the back to operate my graphic equalizer, now replaced with a 12 volt 'trigger'. It took me a while to realize that my old Monster Power HTS-2600 center actually had the 12 volt trigger input that could operate its 4 switched outlets(Most of the Monster Power centers have this feature). So that realization solved the switched outlet problem. And it actually WORKS! The equalizer turns on when I turn on the R-S700 now when you follow the manual's instructions. The remote is the most useful I ever had, the feature allowing you to directly input the Radio channel with the number buttons is so cool, and you can just tune up and down the dial with the remote, along with having pre-sets too. Being able to set the minimum volume for each input when you switch around is very useful to avoid booming audio between sources. I found the sound generally flat, the equalizer really helps bring out the midrange so I suggest you use one for this unit. There is almost no audible hiss or background hum or noise like there was with my old receivers I have used. Also the digital readout is larger than most and is easily readable from across the room. The innerds are so cleanly arranged and laid out, big aluminum heat sinks and high quality circuitry. The manual is very understandable and easy to read. This unit runs my Technics turntable, Denon 3 head cassette deck, Yamaha CD changer, audio from my TV, audio from my DVR, and audio from a spare DVD player too, along with using my Audio Source equalizer. It powers my JBL Northridge E-100s just fine, and I plan to get a sub-woofer for the sub output now also. What more can you ask for in a Stereo Receiver? Still would be nice to have one switched outlet though. Excelsior!

Comments about Yamaha RS700 Electronic Drum Set Assembled Rack System:

I use my R-S700 to drive a small system in my bedroom. It is coupled to a pair of Klipsch Reference RB-52's & a small subwoofer. The sound is clear, precise and soundstage full. The sound is voiced as decidedly neutral - not warm & not clinically dry. My only complaint - and I hesitate to say complaint because I enjoy the unit so much - is that there is no bass management functions. I'm quite happy that there is a sub-out at this price point; however, it would be very hand to be able to manipulate crossover/low-pass point as well as sub volume from front control &/or the remote. As it is, I have to control these parameters directly on the sub - inconvenient, but far from a deal breaker.

I actually purchased this unit as a stand in while my reference pre-amp was out for repairs. It performed admirably in my reference audio system as well, which is why I decided to keep it to replace an older receiver in my BR system.

Two thumbs up, esp for the MSRP.

I purchased the R-S700 to replace my 20+ year old Sherwood receiver which lost the left channel. I needed a receiver that was compatible with my Bose 901 series V loudspeakers, and it does the job. I also have a NAD cd player and Technics turntable attached. I was amazed at the clarity and crispness of the sound! I'm hearing small yet wonderful underlying sounds that I didn't realize were in certain songs. My system is re-born!

This receiver has lots of power but distorts at higher volume levels. The bass and treble controls have little effect on sound. The AM/FM tuners.remote controls.and build quality are very good, and the receiver runs very cool. All in all I would recommend this receiver.

I purchased the Yamaha R-S700 for music listening. I listen to Classical, Jazz, Rock. Instrumental music sounds great on this receiver, which is what I believe it's designed for. I would recommend this recevier to anyone who has an ear for real music ie: musicians, music enthusiasts. The PURE DIRECT feature is really nice for Chamber Music or solo instrumental recordings. The LOUDNESS adjustment really works well for large ensembles at low volume.

This unit displays great "tonality," "musicality," "staging," and "timbre." I'm being sarcastic - I don't know what those words mean (they're used in audiphile magazines to promote a clubby atmosphere.) What I do know is that the Yamaha R-S700 performs flawlessly on the test bench and in real life with distortion figures that are nearly immeasurable and certainly inaudable except to perhaps Superman. The unit has a frequency response range wider than the hearing of any human I know. You don't even need to listen to it (or any modern receiver for that matter before you buy it; I didn't.) as the system's speakers and speaker placement have a far greater and measurable impact on audio reproduction. Comments about Yamaha RS700 Electronic Drum Set Assembled Rack System:

I was pleased with the clean styling, flexibility, smooth sound, and control options. I use the FM, Line-input, Phono, and CD inputs.
My FM listening (24/7 classical) is on the edge of the signal coverage, so in STEREO mode I don't have full quieting. MONO mode is quiet and eliminates the wide-band white noise. Cannot review the AM reception, as I have high local noise level.
The audio line input from my HDTV is welcome and enhances my television viewing experience. The PHONO input was quite welcome and performs with smooth amplification, as I enjoy an extensive library of vinyl LPs.
It is convenient to have a separately designated CD input, easily selected remotely.

I use this system with JBL L-112s and Marantz 4gs. This system is just superb! I had a Kenwood, but it just sounded muddy. Tried Onkyo, flat and not a great full sound - took it back. Ordered this from JRs. Yamaha makes the cleanest, fullest sound in this price range! Top quality! Easy to read dials and ergonomically well set up! Worth the extra $$$.
