For the money this little tuner does the trick. I bought it to tune a cello but used it mostly for my bass. When tuning a new set of strings it is best to select the manual mode. The auto mode works great after that. This is a great little tuner!
I just received my Yamaha YT 240 and am very pleased with it. It's small/portable, easy to use and just perfect for my needs (violin tuning). I'd heartily recommend it!
This tuner is super easy for violin. Just turn it on and Violin is the default instrument. Then it detects the string you are tuning and shows a nice needle & lights to tell whether to tighten or loosen. It's pretty quick to use to tune! Your result will be PERFECT. But I typically have to strum each string 4-6 times to get it perfect. (It's looking to autoselect one of the 4 violin string notes; if your string is so out of tune that it's closer to a G, for example, it will autoselect G.) Then you can simply press note to cycle through the 4 strings to manually select your string you are tuning. However, our Korg Guitar tuner is MUCH faster and easier to use on our guitar. Faster to pick up the note, and holds it longer to ease the tuning. But maybe the difference is the INSTRUMENT, rather than the tuner?
