The Dean Markley Artist Transducer is simple and effective. A small transducer, housed in a maple disk, sticks to the surface of your guitar near the bridge with a special adhesive. The adhesive allows the Dean Markley transducer to be removed and re-stuck many times without affecting your guitar's finish. This Dean Markley pickup also works great on violins, cellos, mandolins, pianos, even horns.

I bought this to use on my bouzouki. It sounds great and it's really sensitive. That means it has a really good output. The tone is clean and clear with a slight midrange bump.

I have a 7 string acoustic guitar. The under saddle piezos only have six elements, so the volume of each string is not even. I've never been able to use the electronics on my guitar for this reason. A pickup like this eliminates this problem. I'm getting my second one these to use on my acoustic guitar.
It's a piezo biscuit. What features do you need?
Sounds great. Clean and clear with a slight midrange bump.
You won't find a pickup, that works this good, for this price.

If you're looking for a temporary, stick-on sound reinforcement system for your guitar, mandolin, ukulele, or banjo the Dean Markley Artist Transducer is certainly an affordable choice. It's sturdy and made for ease of set up. It probably takes 15 seconds to stick on and plug in.
If you're concerned about the quality of the sound you are reinforcing, Horseman, Ride by!
We are building home-made stringed instruments and are experimenting with different pick up configurations. The Dean Markley Artist Transducer comes with a sturdy, lengthy cord making it easy to use for the gigging musician. Stick the transducer onto your guitar and plug in!!

The problem, we found, was the sound. We didn't move the transducer around much, so we can't vouch for the entire range of possibilities. When compared to a very affordable piezo+jack configuration the Markley sounded muddy and dull, like the sound was coming through a wall. The inexpensive piezo was bright and clear from the start. So we coiled up the Dean Markley and put it back in the box. No contest.
This is not a straight apples to apples comparison. The Dean Markley is a rugged, gig-friendly set-up. The piezo+jack is for internal, permanent placement. It is a fragile set up. However, the price difference combined with the sound value makes the Dean Markley a terrible value.

Comments about Dean Markley Artist Transducer:

But...I am using it on my harp and I place the bead between the pins for the levers for two reasons...it won't fall off if the sticky isn't sticky enough AND I don't want sticky stuff on my soundboard anyway so it works well for my purpose.

I use this with my little "Honey Tone" belt amp. It works great and is a lot of fun. I make 3 string instruments I call "Dulcitar" aka strumstick. The sound reproduction is identical.

Comments about Dean Markley Artist Transducer:

Oh, it works, just not well.

Purchased this about ten years ago for use on a mountain dulcimer. Since then it's also been used for a viola.

Not matter the placement, it would not pick up the character of the instruments, but every unwanted bump or knock would come though like a clap of thunder.

Adhesive would not hold transducer securely. it constantly came loose on both instruments. How it fell off a mountain dulcimer laying flat is beyond me.

Also the adhesive ruined the finish in the spots where it was mounted to the instruments. It just will not completely come off.

Best thing to be said, our viola play never stops talking, even during a performance. Thankfully, this wouldn't pick up "Jabber Jaws".

Comments about Dean Markley Artist Transducer:

I needed this pickup for rehearsals and had ordered one from another company. It didn't work and after over a month I'm still waiting on them to send me another. Musicians Friend had the product in stock and sent it immediately.

My first Markley pickup lasted over 20 years. It would have kept working, but the putty finally dried out. I place it on the top of the banjo head and it does the job when I need more than just an acoustic sound.

Thanks, Musicians Friend, for helping me out.

Comments about Dean Markley Artist Transducer:

This pickup works well enough for the money, a good value. There are certainly better solutions out there, if you want to spend a lot more cash. The tones of your guitar are reasonably accurate, only louder.

I bought this pup for my Selmer-style Gitane, a tough guitar to amplify, other than using a microphone, which can be feedback-prone. So far, I am satisfied with the Markley pickup. I will most-likely buy a few more for my odd instruments: autoharp, mountain dulcimer, uke, banjo, piano, & mandolin. Kalimba, anyone?

I have an inexpensive Takamine classical guitar so I don't mind using a little electricians tape on the bottom of the guitar to hold the cord from pulling on the pickup adhesion, (self adhesive) tape which is ready to stick on,(easy). I understand if you have an expensive guitar you may think lowly of me for the tape, but for my circumstances the (Great sound) is what I need.

I needed a way to amplify a mountain dulcimer in the church choir. The Dean Markley Artist Transducer fit the bill nicely. I'm running it through an L.R. Baggs Para Acoustic D.I. into a Peavey Studio 40 amp.

I wanted to use this with my band and had no luck. When I am just playing it alone, the volume i can get without feedback isn't much louder than the actual guitar.
